I could swear I heard a copy of this performance years ago which
included at least some of Milton Cross' commentary, but find now that
all incarnations in my collection, while in good shape and with much
applause inlcluded, don't have any commentary at all. Did I imagine
it, or am I confusing another performance, or has anyone in fact heard
this performance as I remember it? Thanks for any input and Happy New
Year.

The recording of this broadcast (6 Feb. 1937) that I have is on EJS 147.
Concerning this, in William Shaman et al., _EJS: Discography of the
Edward J. Smith Recordings, "The Golden Age of Opera," 1956-1971_, p.75,
one reads: "EJS 147 contains a portion of the Milton Cross commentary
following Act III, in which novelist Marcia Davenport bursts into the
broadcasting booth to proclaim Cigna's debut the most exciting since
Flagstad's (which was only two years earlier, on 2 February, 1935).
Davenport's remark, 'It's (Cigna's debut) the biggest news to hit the
Italian wing in some time,' can be heard on EJS 147." --E.A.C.

Yes, I have also heard this. My copy was on reel to reel tape, and it
was the complete opera, but it may have come from Smith's records.
