Well, after hearing about this new release, I wondered what it could
sound like after ten years. I found out today. Cheap techno. That's what
this album is. It sounds like any techno disc you can buy these days.
There's none of the flair and originality that characterized the
original Art of Noise. Below the Waste was their best album, with all
the vocals from Mahlathini and Mahotella Queens.

This album has a lot of really annoying background vocals, from a
fast-paced rap to opera-like stuff. But most annoying is the stupid
textual narration by some British dude. Most of the tracks are these
repetitive, trancy things, quite unlike the distinct and separate,
well-defined tracks on all their earlier albums. And there's absolutely
nothing on this album that's as original as In No Sense? Nonsense! (THAT
was one wacky disc!). What there is a lot of is sampled voices in the
vein of Apollo Four Forty, a lot of energetic bass and string lines in
the vein of Fluke, and quite a smattering of whatever you might have
heard anywhere else from Delerium, Industrial Monk, or Twelvetrees.
There's even a cheapo reference to Moments in Love at the end of track
11. It's almost as if they're trying to capture fans of recent
electronica while still pretending to be Art of Noise. I think they
should either return their sound to what it was or give up entirely.
Fans of original Art of Noise won't like this disc, as I don't. Save
your money and wait till it comes out on video.

I haven't heard it myself, but...why should I wait until it comes out
on video? If it's that bad, shouldn't the video version -- if one is or
should become available -- be avoided as well?

Yeah, actually, that was a joke. CD's don't ever come out on video. So
basically, I was saying to wait forever. Get it?

What do you mean, CDs don't ever come out on video? There are lots of
recordings that exist both as audio CDs and on video. And I wouldn't be
surprised if there was an Art of Noise video of a selection from this
CD making the rounds right now.
