Kilar's score for Portrait of Lady

Has anybody bought the soundtrack yet and would care to comment? I've
looked forward to this score (primarily because I liked his score for
Bram Stoker's Dracula). However, when I saw the film today, Most of
what I heard (confirmed by the end credits) was classical music (I
recall, mostly piano). What's on the soundtrack - anything different,
or was I just selectively listening?

The score of Kilar is great. I prefer it to 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'.
It has got score of about 45 Minutes and classical music (Schubert
of about 20 Minutes on it.
I really recommend it to you. You won't be disappointed.

There are a few Schubert solo piano pieces on the CD, but mostly it's
devoted to music by Kilar. The score is much more subdued than DRACULA
(this IS Henry James, not Bram Stoker) and features several beautiful
melodies. In some respects, parts of the score sound more like John
Barry than the Kilar we're familiar with; in particular, the
combination of slow romantic melodies frequently repeated with little
variation reminded me on first hearing of lots of Barry's recent work.
Further listening, however, identifies those melodies as distinctively
Kilar's, and their construction is quite different (and to my ears
much more interesting) than recent Barry. I have come to like the
score a lot, and you get good value on the CD. If you like Kilar, I
urge you to check out Milan's recent release of his Father Kobe
Requium (classical orchestral piece). It's a quite compelling, very
dramatic piece of music, far less "restrained" than PORTRAIT. A
recent issue of SOUNDTRACK reviewed a French comedy score by Kilar but
I can't find any sources in the US that offer it for sale. Does anyone
know where I could get a copy? Any other opinions of these two CDs?

Definitely. I bought it yesterday. BUT, Kilar's Dracula score is
second to none I think!!

I have to agree, Dracula is awesome! Portrait Of A Lady is quite good
as well! If you liked Dracula you should like Portrait...

Kilar's score took the John Barry approach in the way it's done. It doesn't
mickey mouse. I haven't seen the film, but the album plays like a compilation
of best tunes album. It's very strong, rich, and sweeping. The music is
beautiful. It grows opn you more and more by the listen. Each track is at
least five minutes long.
