The new Negativland EP is out. Buy it. It's Negativland, it's good.

As far as U2 goes, BOYCOTT THEM (or kill them, whichever is more
convenient for you).

1. DON'T buy their albums
2. DON'T see them on tour
3. SLAG them at every opportunity
4. BUY Negativland's albums, whether you like them or not.
5. SUPPORT the Anti-U2 cause
6. THROW rocks at the band members when you see them on the street
7. DON'T buy any Island records
8. PLAY U2 NEGATIVLAND on your radio station at least once a day

Thank you, and by the way, U2 sucks.

All you stupid U2 fans, send your flames to dev/null. Have a nice day.

ho hum,. have you *read* any of the articles that say "U2 asked
Island not to press the suit", "U2 asked Island not to college
money"?

please, if you're going to ask for a boycott, have the facts straight.
if you want to boycott island because you feel negativland is right,
that's one thing, but u2 has tried to stay in the right on this one.

If you're going to boycott anybody over the U2 NEGATIVLAND mess, it ought
to be Island and SST. Island are the ones who brought the suit
(apparently over U2's objections once the band found out about it) and SST
tried to make Negativland pay for the entire suit once it was all over,
refusing to accept Negativland's offer to pay an even 50% if SST would
document the accounting.

How about DON'T be taken in by SST's "Corporate Rock Still Sucks"/"Kill
Bono" propaganda. Greg Ginn plays the same artist-screwing cover-your-ass
games that every other label head plays. Get your Negativland stuff from
Negativmailorderland (109 Minna #391, San Fransisco, CA 94105) . . . the
band gets a bigger cut that way.

This is a repost of something I put on rec.music.industrial a few days ago...

It's out- GUNS by NEGATIVLAND
The cd itself has a print of LBJ being sworn in... (how topical!)

The front cover has large hand holding a gun aimed at a small U2 plane model.
Back cover has just the plane. GUNS in very large letters, NEGATIVLAND in
very small letters. Basically it clones the format of the U2 cd very closely
using the same colors, same size letters, etc.

Back cover says "This recording is dedicated to the members of our favorite
Irish rock band, their record label, and their attorneys. This music is
dedicated two U."

Tracks are:

1. Then 8:05
2. Now 8:36

1991 SST CD291

it also notes:

Previous releases and legal documentation available from:
Negativmailorderland 109 Minna #391, SF CA 94105
contact Negativland at 1920 Monument Blvd, MF-1, Concord, CA 94520

The 1st track sounds close to identical to a version of GUNS that aired on
KPFA a couple times. I think it was originally commissioned for some national
radio program or network... the 2nd track sounds new, I can't comment much
til I digest it more. It had some silly sounding backing music that almost
sounded like they'd used some MIDI arrangements of some pop rock tune again.

It seems too good a joke to follow the U2 scenario. Even though they did
the first track almost two years ago originally it now sounds like a
documentary synopsis of their hassles with Island. If I were on a jury
I'd say it was premeditated....

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense... ask people who don't even like them or
care to buy their products... sure, ok.

>5. SUPPORT the Anti-U2 cause

It should be noted that the back cover of the new release, GUNS, has a
dedication that says the music is dedicated to their favorite Irish rock
band. Negativland also wrote a recent review of U2's Achtung Baby. (did
anyone read the review?)

>Thank you, and by the way, U2 sucks.
>All you stupid U2 fans, send your flames to dev/null. Have a nice day.

Gee, so if Negativland calls U2 their favorite Irish rock band then I
guess they must just be stupid U2 fans too...

I hate U2 also, but that's just because I don't enjoy their music.
But it seems odd to me that disgruntled fanatics like yourself feel such a
misdirected need for vengance when the band Negativland has walked away from
all this and doesn't seem to care about any boycott or violence against U2.
Maybe you should just find a small dog to kick or something if you feel such a
need for violence...

Head over to the rec.music.industrial newsgroup. There are at least 3 different
reviews up there, each successive one is apparently clueless of the existance
of the previous ones. Go figure.

Why boycot U2? They did nothing. It was their label, Island, that
has pressed on with the legal proceddings (which are now done and
settled). So, if you want to boycot Island, don't buy any more
Robert Palmer, Grace Jones, Drivin' N' Cryin, and anyone else on the
label.

Check out the latest Rolling Stone. It has a short story on the
Negativland/U2 incident. Apparently U2 had tried to stop the
legal proceedings, but Island wouldn't listen. What could they (U2)
do? Nothing. It's all corporate.

As for SST, boycot them also. They tried to get the money they lost
from Negativland, but a quick battle erupted, which ended up with
Negativland being dropped from SST. Yep. No more new Negativland
on SST. Bum, eh?

Island wouldn't listen? Threaten to not finish "Achtung" unless they stop.
After the fact, they could organize a benefit concert for bands who have been
raped by large corporations. God knows they've done benefit concerts for just
about everyone else.

I think things will get really interesting once U2 starts touring, especially
California.

Perhaps I missed something here, couldn't Negativland have avoided all
of this fuss by asked permission to use the U2 material in the first
place. Regardless of the specifics of the case I have trouble with the
idea of boycotting a band or record label because they have sought to
recover losses incured as a result of theft.

Recover LOSSES? I'd like you to explain how Negativland made U2 reap
losses as a result of their single 'U2'.
