Barney Kessel Nonet and Quartet Music To Listen To Barney Kessel By
$24.95
Mint- VG++ Mono *Only* Contemporary

Titles; Cheerful Little Earful, Makin’ Whoopee, My Reverie, Blues For A

Playboy, Carioca, Mountain Greenery, Indian Summer, Gone With The Wind,
Laura, I Love You, Fascinating Rhythm.

Barney is MY MAN on the Modern Jazz Electric Guitar.
He was in all likelihood the most recorded guitarist of all time as he
did
thousands of Studio dates from the 40’s all throughout the 60’s and
beyond
His style of jazz is right there on the mark of the guy that started it
all, Charlie Christian. He is Charlie Christian reincarnated into a
white
guy.
If you have seen or heard the film Bell Book and Candle, you have seen
and
heard Barney Kessel. If you have seen or heard Touch of Evil, you have
heard Barney Kessel. He is the motherfuckin’ load of cool jazz guitar
moderne 1950’s. His playing is the stuff that dreams are made of
This record, this music was all arranged by Barney, who by the way is
self
taught.

His 9 piece outfit is with Buddy Collette-Flute/Alto Flute and Clarinet,

Jules Jacob-Oboe and French Horn, Howard Gordon-Oboe and English Horn,
Howard Terry-Oboe and Bassoon, Justin Gordon-Bass Clarinet, Andre’
Previn-Piano and Shelly Manne-Drums and Percussion.

His Quartet is with Ted Nash-Flute, Jimmie Rowles-Piano and Red
Mitchell-Bass.
All recording were done in 1 Take and from 1956 and are all THE COOLEST
perfect beatnik jazz sound, like you may find in the Chico Hamilton
Outfit
or any other great west coast small ensemble of the same period.
It swings like all hell and is quiet and moody. I can’t say enough about

this record or this guy other than the record cover has never seen
better
days and the vinyl is not going to get any cleaner.
Great liner notes and informative info from Andre’ Previn

Winchell(Rhumba), Carioca(Samba), Maxixe Lundu(Samba), Sin
Timbal(Rhumba),
The Arthur Murray Way(Rhumba), Noche De Amor(Rhumba), Tres Palabras, La
Rueda

Early authentic Latin Orchestra, sound very much like the Desi Arnez
sound
to me. It’s a ballroom orchestra sound Born in a Mexican border town
in
California, moved to Mexico City with his family, studied in the Univ of

Mexico to be a doctor BUT his heart and mind were OBVIOUSLY in music and

lucky for whoever because this guys hands on the piano with all the
serious
shaking of them that he does does not lend well to a scalpel IF YOU KNOW

WHAT I MEAN AND I THINK YOU DO! Score is an early modern jazz label.
Many west cost beatnik jazz LP’s were issued on Score.
Great LP dated 1957

Leo Diamond with Orchestra Arranged and Conducted by Frank Hunter
Off Shore $10.95 VG+, small promo sticker on cover
Mint-, White Label Promo Mono Reprise

Titles; Off Shore, Harbor Lights, Canadian Sunset, Beyond The Sea,
Misty
Night, In The Still Of The Night, On Treasure Island, My Romantic Love,
Ebb
Tide, Dreamy melody, By The Waters Of The Minnetonka, Moon River.

Totally unique and unusual exotica as Leo Diamond is the piece de
resistance’ of the exotique Harmonica, like you have NEVER heard, unless

you are already familiar with Mr. Diamond. He plays electrified
harmonica
and many if not all of his records (including this 1) have overdubs and
tape manipulations the emulate the sounds of the sea and other weird
sounds. He plays many different Harmonicas including,
Tenor, Bass and the Polyphonia. There are boo bams and other exotic
percussion instruments used.
It’s really quite a fantastic record and you will not find it any
cleaner
than this 1

Titles; Simpatico, Rio Rhapsody, Nocturno, Little Girl Blue, Chorno in
"A", Mood Antigua, The Color of Her Hair, Lonely, I Didn't Know What
Time
It Was, Carioca Hills

Bud Shank has 1 of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL sounds coming out of a Flute you
have
ever heard or for that matter, NEVER heard.
He is the motherload of coolness in regards to Bossa Nova or any other
kind
of sup smooooooothe and cooooooool jazz in general.
Laurindo Almeida was THE MAN in bringing the Bossa Nova to the US, in no

more and no less than it's truest form.

Laurindo Almeida plays Spanish Guitar and does the arrangements for this

album and along with Bud Shank on Flute with an occasional Tabla, Bass
and
set of light drums here and there create some of the most earth
shattering
beauty ever recorded. They do not resort to much of the "usual"
percussives used on many other LP's of the same nature as this is much
more
of a softer and more subtle sound that is infinitely more pure than
"exotica" styles of sound. It just does not get any better than this

Discovery
of The Good Life, Only The Wise Are Brave, The Penalty Is Death

Totally unbelievable record, plain and simple
Sidney Poitier is someone so many of us are familiar with. We can hear
his
voice in so many films of the 60's. He has a RICH deep full gorgeous
voice
that bellows.
He speaks SO WELL! You know it man!

Imagine him reading the prose of Plato, backed by the Fred Katz
orchestra
which is extremely percussive in nature.
This is the same Fred Katz who backed up Ken Nordine on his earliest
recordings as well as the music for the Jazz Sequences for Elmer
Bernstein's Sweet Smell of Success" soundtrack score AND the beatnik
jazz
ensemble work of the Chico Hamilton Quintet/Quartet of the same period.
WHEW!
MANY PERCUSSIONS booming ever so perfectly behind Mr. Poitier's
incredible
voice as he reads and recites Plato.
With Mr. Poitier on the front cover looking straight at you, fanning

Straight ahead betnik jazz (electric) guitar tunes
Al Viola was a great jazz/studio player who is actually mentioned as
part
of the orchestra in Pete Rugolo's sTV soundtrack to "Richard Diamond".
I say "actually mentioned" because hundreds upon hundreds of times all
of
these guys. Theses studio/jazz players were never ever mentioned.

rekkid.
All in all this is an extremely fun and entertaining swin' affair.
