I play with the United States Marine Corps Band in Quantico, Va. I just got
back from the Virginia International Tattoo down in Norfolk, Va. That thing is
quite the extravaganza. Anyway, we were lucky this year to have one of the
Birtish Royal Marine bands performing this year. These are awesome bunch of
guys (and girls). They are a real pleasure to hang out with, and seeing them
perform is a sight to behold. Many military bands sounds completely different
on the march than they do while seated, but these english have it all worked
out. It sounded like a british brass band in concert. Flawless technique,
warm, round and relaxed sound. Wonderful dynamic contrast too. I've seen alot
of bands, but this was something special. If you ever get the chance to see
them, GO!!! You won't want to miss it. All you drum corps freaks out there
might not dig it because it's very refined and regimental, but for anyone with
an ear for real music, it's hard to beat. Also, the Army Herald Trumpets were
there. These guys (and girl) are something to be behold as well. Just goes to
show I have a long long way to go. Cheers!

Rereading my post, I'm not sure how clear it came out. THE US Marine
Corps Band is in Washington DC. I play in one of the field bands. We go to
boot camp, combat training, and do all the stuff marines do. Just wanted to
clear that up! Maybe one day I'll be up there in DC, but next week it's off to
play war for me.
