What synth & settings were used to make the classic
"BIONICS" sound effect as popularized on "The Six Million
Dollar Man"? Just terminally curious.

Have fun

//i don't know for sure/ but it always sounded to me like a short cymbal
crash sent through delay/ possibly other fx as well/ not a synth/

This is how they created the "BIONICS" sound effects for the show:

First, they had this big fat guy sit on a Hammond B3 with all the drawbars
pulled. Then, they ran the B3's output through some sort of voltage
controlled amplifier connected to an envelope generator with a fast decay
and rapid trigger. Finally, a hint of spring-reverb for ambiance.

Now, ask me how they created the TARDIS materialization/dematerialization
sound effect for Doctor Who.

Any takers?

Jim

Easy. It was a key being scraped down a piano wire, made into a tape loop.
