Sure there's a ton of high pass filtering and delay out the wazoo, but
what was the original sound behind all that?

I downloaded this sound, slowed it down, and even reversed it. It sounds
like piano strings being hit,(a "G" is the note) but the attack portion
chopped off, and the remainder left, the sustain, sped up, with lots of
echo/delay. You know how the lid may have been slammed down on it, with the
dampers raised, but they've done it in a more controlled way. EQed it, and
sped it way fast. If not a piano, a Harp. That's what it sounds like to me.
