I heard that bass players make less money than other musicians.

Yes sir. Lotsa bass playa's died in recent decades. John Empwissel o

I Mista Charlie feel these men shoulda taken counsel from Sean....both
in how to play bass and how to live proppa. Is it any coincidence that
Sean came from Yoke?

Now some say Sean is homersexual, having been trained in that
lifestyle by Mince an Muchael jackson. But rest assured he will libba
long life an suppotin the ole Yoke, remindrin the world what it ean's
to be a REAL john lennons fan....ALWAYS AGREEIN WID DA YOKE!!!

MISTER CHARLIE (Grateful Dead)

I take a little powder, take a little salt, put it in my shotgun, I go
walkin'
Jubba jubba, wolly bully, looking high, looking low,
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya, mister charlie told me so.

I won't even take your life, won't even take a limb,
Just unload my shotgun, take a little skin.
Jubba jubba, wolly bully, looking high, looking low,
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya, mister charlie told me so.

Well you take my silver dollar, take those silver dimes,
Fix it up together in some alligator wine.
I can hear the drums, voodoo all night long,
Mister charlie tells me I can't do nothing wrong.
Jubba jubba, wolly bully, looking high, looking low,
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya, mister charlie told me so.

Now mister charlie told me, won't you like to know,
Give you little warning before I let you go.
Jubba jubba, wolly bully, looking high, looking low,
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya, mister charlie told me so.
Gonna scare you up and shoot ya, mister charlie, mister charlie told me so.

Bass players are targetted by society for low self-worth because a bass
guitar is the most perfect instrument in the eyes of PLUTO.

Most depictions of the River Styx do not capture the loud Bass Guitar
playing Throwing Muses that hangs over it.

I guess the musical questions here are; What is it about playing bass that
somehow doesn't befall those musicians who play something else, and why?

And does playing manual bass on keybaords 'qualify'? Because I often do the
'Ray Manzarek thing' and play manual bass on keys.

Scott Walker (Engels) could have had a career as a session bass player.
He apparently was working as one at a young age.
I don't know if that is relevant but I wanted to bring it up.

oh, yeah, he was good at that

but he was responsible for the abortion of an intro to Light My Fire, which
everybody cuts when they cover that song

It was when I got into my first trio "Unity", that I HAD to start playing
manual bass, but I didn't mind, and I still do some of it even to this
day...it sort of became part of my style.

I wouldn't even think of playing "Light My Fire" without that ALL-
Important intro...plus it comes back as a reintro after the instrumental
bridge/jam, and it's there again at the very end of the song too - 3
instances of it, and I LOVE playing them all, not with the sound of a Vox
Connie, as Manzarek did, but rather a Hammond, and bringing the Leslie
in, particularly in the end for a nice dramitic finish!

Everybody who can't play it and is too Lazy to take the time to Practice
doing it right are the ones who cut it - they ought to be ashamed of
themselves.

here's the challenge then:

can you name a cover version that includes it?

the three Golden Rules of songwriting are edit, edit, edit

I reckon that goes for performing, though I have much less expereince of
that

the unwritten rule of performing seems to be padding, noise and tuning-up

No I can't but that's because fortunately, I've been spared having to
listen to covers of it ;)

> the three Golden Rules of songwriting are edit, edit, edit

The cure for that is LIVE performances!!!

Being in tune, is definitely a must, but as for the padding and the
noise, I'm not sure what that might entail.
