Interesting. How much is sampled loops and how much is made from scratch?
The only repeating sampled loop is the fl studio "congrugent" drum
loop which is
one bar long. On the top of that there are other drums playing which
change it a
little bit here and there.
Antti
So the melody parts are all yours, eh? Very nice.
Oh hi Shaun.
I agree.
I should but a motherfucking bullet to my brain.
Antti
Let's hear one of yours.
Aloude's stuff might be a bit weird at times, but he's actually doing
something. And if you open your mind a tiny bit, you might hear
something in it.
Nonsense. Unless you're taking the piss out of that idiot, in which case
good on ya.
Thanks Sean. Shauns comment caught me at the end of a bad day. I just
heard my uncle is in real bad shape in the hospital and Ive been
following the
Russia / Georgia / Poland situation a little too closely for the past
month (I am a conscript
in the Finnish army and wonder if Russia shall attack us next (that is
why the
armageddonish feelings))
Antti
They wouldn't dare. Finns are too scary. If they came rushin' in, you
guys would finish 'em, right?
I prescribe that you ignore the news.
Dr. Sean
I do not think Russians would be scared of me. :D
Thank you for the prescription, that is what I need.

Seemed OK on first hearing. Wemt back to listen again and it had gone!
Ah, well.
I was disappointed not to find the song at any of those locations. There are
very few trash bins that I would like to go through, but my guess is yours
is one of them.

Your music is quite good. It's surprising, to me, that someone who can
make quite enjoyable music should be so angry, nasty, and egotistical.
You're actually causing yourself more harm with that unpleasantness than
causing harm to anyone else. Why not speak so as to benefit others?
Doing so will certainly be of more benefit to yourself.
Good luck. When you decide to rejoin, I'm sure the human race will
welcome you back.

Okay, let's start with your Usenet article.
If you wish to maximise the impact of your article, you need to learn how
to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for the word "I".
Nowadays, failing to do so doesn't make you look rebellious or
non-conformist; it just looks ignorant. You might also want to maintain a
firmer grip on your use of white space and punctuation.
Less superficially, you will win a greater market share if you can gain
tighter control over your phrasing - "ass-kissers" sounds too dreadfully
transatlantic to be fashionable, and "i can't stand [whatever]" will
simply remind people of the character of Lena Lamont, in "Singing in the
Rain", making you sound ridiculous rather than adamant.
Tighten it up, get the case work and punctuation right, drop the spurious
white space, and lose all the content in favour of something worth
reading, and maybe - just maybe - we can make you a Usenet star.
> i could sit here right now and write 15 statements...
Oh dear.

It seems to me that "artist" is like "hacker" (in the hackish sense of that
word), in that it is far more impressive to be described as one by other
such people than to describe oneself in that way.
> when we fall through it.well, we fall...but at least i say what i
> mean...not what i think everyone wants to hear...
It is certainly true that what you say is not what you think everyone wants
to hear. In fact, it is possible that you have reached the opposite
extreme.
> by the way.sean, thank you for your comment on my work.I took my thyme
You can get help for that, nowadays. Thyme addiction is now much more
understood than it was formerly, there is much less social stigma attached
to it nowadays, and in any case the clinics are very discreet.
> and only put out the ones I thought worthy.my music was done in weekends,

Ah, how refreshing! YES - that's the secret. Well, /a/ secret, anyway.
Maybe we can be the best and maybe we can't, BUT we CAN be the best that
we can be. In everything, not just music. In writing, in conversation, on
Usenet, whilst driving, at our workplace... In all that we do, we should
do it as if we were taking part in the world championship final and aiming
to win.

I interpreted this as meaning that you were smart enough and brave enough
to invite and take note of criticisms. It seems I may have been mistaken.
You have demonstrated how you react to criticisms of something that
doesn't matter: with illiterate scatological ravings. So how will you
react to criticisms of something that /does/ matter, like a song? If you
try to scare people away from discussing the material you produce -
whether it's a Usenet article or a song or whatever - you are effectively
trying to scare them away from guiding you towards producing better
material. That's not the best way to get good feedback.
<even more puerile ravings snipped>
all you have managed to do is critique my critique of anti loude and the way
i use capitalization and punctuation...
if you were to say, "hey shaun, "open your door" is a song that could use
some better guitar work, or "hey shaun, "if the shoe fit's" has some very
nice lyrics" or " hey shaun, "death row" is a powerful poem, or, it is a
lousy representation of the city we know as bagdad" (new vs news, 4/07) or
anything about anything that i have "put out" i could appreciate your
opinion...but as it is, you are no more than a mouth with a lot to say but
little back, and a...well, you know...and now so does everyone else...
and you still avoid the question of have you read any e.e.cummings or
william carlos williams or not...mr. critique person. how about you now
start telling known poets how to write and see how far that gets you...
(illiterate scatological ravings) wow, such big words from such a little
mouth...

On the contrary, I gave a critique of a Usenet article you wrote. Or are
you claiming that you didn't write it?
> all you have managed to do is critique my critique
And you are critiquing (or trying to critique) my critique of your
critique. That's inconsistent - if you don't like critiques, why produce
them in the first place?

Nobody, including you, gets to decide when a Usenet thread is over. If you
don't want it to continue, you can stop posting to it. When everyone else
agrees and stops posting to it - which is up to them, not you or me - it's
over.
> Where are any references to anything you have done?
Where have I claimed that I have done anything? You asked for criticism,
and you got it, and you continue to demonstrate that the request was
unwise. Your problem, not mine.

You don't even know how to do Usenet quoting properly, it seems.
> exactly...now shut up and go home...
You don't get to choose which other people use this newsgroup or how they
use it. If you can't take criticism (and you can't), I suggest that it
might be a good idea to stop asking for criticism. Furthermore, in each
exchange you are revealing less and less ability to communicate clearly
and effectively. It might be a good idea to stop before you embarrass
yourself.
As the charter says, "rec.music.makers.songwriting provides a forum for the
discussion and dissemination of information specifically relating to
songwriting. It is to provide a complementary role to other news groups in
the rec.music hierarchy. Acceptable topics for discussion include lyrics,
song forms, harmony, arrangements, song placement, workshops,
collaboration, and publishing."
People come to this newsgroup to seek discussions about the many-faceted
craft of songwriting. Imagine how delighted they'd be if they actually
found some.
