I just wanted to share my cover of The Boxer. The only flaw I can
discern is that it's getting a bit busy at the finale. Any comments on
the levels?

Thanks very much,

Maybe a little s filter on the vocals.

Sounds really nice.

I like it when it gets busy in the end.

Thanks Antti. What filter do you mean?

A litle eq notch down around 5000 - 5500 hz to
make the s sound a little less sharp.

But that is just my opinion. . It is just fine as it is.

It's an OK cover

not too busy

in fact, bit lacklustre

what did *you* want to achieve?

when I do covers, I'll put a whole new rhythm section under the melody,
sometimes
even change the melody

I was trying to achieve "not lacklustre" :-)

ah, but that's my point

if you don't change the rhythm/melody/whatever but try to recreate thne
original,
I think you'll always get compared (unfavouarbly, usually) with the original

and if you do manage to recreate the original, what is the point? (there was
a frame-by-frame
remake of Psycho a few years back, I still can't figure out why!)

I made it as a tribute to one of my musical role models and also to
see if I could do it. We can certainly debate the pros and cons of
imitation versus emulation and into which category my effort falls,
but assuming I'll re-record it some other day with a new groove and
melody (and maybe call it "American Pie" :-) ) what I'd rather know is
how you think I can improve the execution. For the sake of argument,
if my goal was to recreate the original, then where did it fall short?

no, no, it didn't fall short in any technical sense

but Paul Simon was was/is a competent guitarist and singer

(and his work overseen by top-rank producers)

it's just that if you don't make it plain, from bar 1, that yours is a new
take,
it will simply be compared with the original

it is the human condition

or maybe it's just me...
