Hello!

I'm thinking of buying that Steinberg VST Instrument called The Grand. It's
a digital piano which, so the developers say anyway, sounds just like a
good-quality concert grand.

If anyone has played with this thing, could you tell me what you think of
it, and if it lives up to the promises?

Thanks very muchly,

Steve

I don't have it but have heard the mp3 demo on the Steinberg site and at the
Purgatory shootout site
(http://www.purgatorycreek.com/pianocompare.html#Wizoo). It sounds pretty
good but I've learned that mp3s are not reliable indicators of quality.

There has been some discussion about it on the Northernsounds GigaStudio BBS
(http://www.northernsounds.com/cgibin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=3).
Consensus is that it does a good job of modeling artifacts like sympathetic
resonance and release, but that it doesn't come up to the quality of some of
the recent Giga samples like the Post Grandioso Steinway or Bardstown Audio
Bosendorfer. The Grand is a Kawai sample.

The VST Grand requires a VST hosting application like Cubase. The giga
samples require GigaStudio.
