Managed to knock my back out place during load in a few weeks ago. Not
lifting anything heavy, had the band's help loading in, but somehow I moved
the wrong way and OUCH!

So I played two weekends with my back hurting to the point that I could
hardly stand up after sitting through the set, and no surprise - it got
worse. Got to where I was falling down from the muscle spams whever I was on
my feet for more than a few minutes.

Ended up taking a week off work and loading up with pain meds and muscle
relaxers, and it finally 'crunched' back into place the other night - yay!

Lessons learned are:

Playing while your back is hurting SUCKS!

Be more careful yanking the gear out the car before the gig. Hard to do when
pressed for time - seems like every club wants to push the starting time by
30 minutes - in either direction.

Need to figure out how to trim more weight down from this pile of crap I
carry. The problem is that the things I leave at home are only needed on the
nights I leave them at home.

Well, that's the reason the tech god's created road techs (I despise the
word "Roadie"). Find a young guy or gal that want's to make a few bucks
and has a love of music, and let them save your back for the performance!!
(this coming from a long lost drummer who converted into live sound, lighting,
and anything else that went into the trucks..)..

I didn't go to one because I didn't realize that my back was still out, not
one bit of pain from my spine, just the muscles around it. Usually I can
clearly tell that something's out of alignment and get it straightened out
by myself.

Feels better every day - 11 hours in a chair at work today and though it was
really hard to get moving again, I was fine by the time I got home.

I used to have big teenagers for that stuff, but then the boys finally moved
out. Between me and the two boys we could load in drums and PA in about five
minutes.
