I've got a hartke kickback 15 in the practice area. It has worked great for
the 2 years I've owned it. About a month ago it quit. I pulled the driver,
checked it with a 9v battery and put it back in; worked fine until the other
night. It went out again and I tried the battery check again with zero
success. I tried the driver in a monitor and it worked fine. Re-installed in
the bass rig and it was fine for about 3 mins. When I hit a low string, and
let it sustain, it just faded away to nothing. The direct and the headphone
outs work fine. The connection from the amp to the driver checks out ok as
well. Why does the driver work in another app, but fade in the bass rig?
Driver bad? Thanks.

sounds like the problem is thermal overload kicking in in the amp
output stage. Which may mean it's not the driver UNLESS the driver is
partially shorted out. Test the ohms of the driver with a meter. It
should not be significantly below the limits of the amp (usually 4
Ohms minimum). Try another driver. Or put a LARGE 4 Ohm resistor in
series with the speaker. If the amp won't cut out with the resistor in
series it probably means there is a short in the driver.

Good luck.
