Well, I go postal everytime I listen to anything from Coltrane, so...

But the Bird invented be-bop, therefore he's God.

Time isn't over yet.
What you should do is learn everything he played and see. You will
start to notice a lot of repetition, showing he developed many riffs
in several keys.
One characteristic riff is transcribed three times in the Omnibook
transcriptions of Jamey Aebersold. It's amazing. Look at bars 22-23 of
Blues for Alice, and compare them with bars 33-34 of Billie's Bounce.
You'll see it again in bars 34-35 of Au Privave No. 1. Again, compare
with Anthropology, bars 115-117.
Parker was truly great, but don't ignore other great players. I tune
to Sirius Jazz radio and am astonished from time to time. One name
that came up today was Gigi Gryce. Art Pepper was great.
You should also read the lives of the great composers - that was a
great era and lots is still being written about it. Parker, Coltrane,
Adderly. But tune in to more recent stuff. There's lots of great
players today who can play anything Coltrane and Parker played yet
have their own statements to make. And between then and now there have
been lots of great saxophone players. Continue your research!
