Dumb opinion IMHO.

Regular participants who create a guitar-oriented product of generic
interest to other guitar players are MOST WELCOME to post informational
advertisements in these guitar groups as long as they don't get carried
away with posting the ad too often.

Even regular participants who happen to release a CD featuring guitar
are MOST WELCOME to advertise here, within reason.

Such ads are on topic and entirely appropriate. People who think
otherwise are confused.

Advertise all you want Jack. The problem I have is with these guys that
never even read the newsgroups showing up once in a blue moon and
advertising. You've been a great contributor to the groups for a long time
and IMHO you have every right to advertise your book which is totally on the
topic. I think Tueller is out of line, of course you almost never see a
helpful post from him.

Jack, I tried to reply to you email message but I got delivery
failure. Here's my message below.

Jack,
I got this message with a file attached, (info.cpl 27.1KB).
Anyway I tried to open it but got a message there was a virus attached
to it. Don't know if your computer sent it without your knowlege, or
what. Hope it wasn't intentional (I assume it's not).

Thought it might be something from your "Sheets of Sound"
info, that's why I tried to open it, thought it might be some
material. Anyway, thought you might want to know. I waS ON YOUR WEB
SITE. Gee, I guess flaming you about your advertisement has its
consequences. (Just kidding !) There was no text from your email, only
the file, which I could not open due to my Norton AV(I guess)detecting
a virus.

By the way, I think the Sheets of Sound material is interesting
and that you've done a wonderful job with the material (from what I
can see from your web site). Your promotion of it is a little
agressive, but otherwise I wouldn't have known about it. If I became
annoyed by it (your promotion) I was was very interested once I looked
at the content. From pessimism to optimism, try a new revolutionary
approach.

Byron Atkins

Byron, I did not email you (prior to this), nor do I have a virus on my
system. These viruses work by forging headers and making it look like
they're coming from someone else.

I meant I was on your www.sheetsofsound.net a few days before I
received the email. You know the site you advertise here constantly?
As for what that has to do with the email??? Well I don't know, except
that I got an email from Zuckerjaz that had an attached file with a
virus. Which is what I told you before. I'm only telling you as a
courtesy and I also tried to give you a compliment on your material
from the web site in my message the other day.

The copy of the email is below, or email that was generated with your
name. There was no text in the email message only a file. It's not a
big deal, you're a programmer so you may have much more knowledge than
me about generated messages. I didn't suffer any harm from the
message, which I assume is just a fluke happening.

Byron, those worms harvest their headers from the computer they're on.
The only thing that means is that someone has both your address and
Jack's somewhere in their address book, outbox, or inbox, or even in
their downloaded usenet posts. I've gotten that say they're from
me before, and I know I'm not sending myself viruses.

Hey Byron, if it makes you feel any better, I know Jack himself
learned about this the hard way, too. I once got an e-mail from him
complaining about the virus he thought I'd emailed his way...

How in the heck are you going to sell something to guitarists if they
don't know it's out there? Just my thought on this subject.
