At the risk of starting the anti-Epiphone bullsh*t again, The Guitar Magazine
(British and unintentional proof that the entire guitar world doesn't have to
revolve around Fender and Gibson) has just published their "Best of '98" (note
- not best of all time) guitar list (in price order):

PRS McCarty Hollowbody II
Parker Fly Artist
Gibson DC Standard
Fender Roadhouse Strat
Peavey EVH Wolfgang Special
Epiphone Sheraton
DeArmond M75T
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Yamaha AEX500
Danelectro '56-U2

Let the games begin!

I hope this doesn't start flames either, but I have to say.. time
after time, year in year out, there's an epiphone on just about
anybodies list of best buys, best deals, best values, etc.
I've never seen the Sheratons on any of these before, so I'm tickled
about it.
In the end, though, it doesn't really matter much as I was pretty
happy anyway.
I like the roadhouse being in there, and the Yamaha, too.
I wish to hell someone around here had a dano...

Interesting list, actually. Is the DeArmond available here in America? I
can't recall seeing anything with that name on it.

I'll take one of each, just to be hip.

I have *never* insulted the PRS McCarty Hollowbody II, prick. The Parkers
*suck*.

And in case you learn to read sometime soon, you would see that its seperated
by price order.

Have a nice, dellusional day.

Well I'm not going to add a long list here BUT for the money, if you're
into lespauls, the historic 58 figured top is a great deal. The only
problem is you have to find the top that lights you up. Many of the
tops are funky but there's some great tops out there. AND - LATE
BREAKING NEWS - 1998 was it for this guitar. No More for 1999. So
value of these will begin to increase rapidly. If you're into
investments - there's your tip for the day.

Thats a pretty strong statement.

I own a Parker Fly and I love it. Of course the preamp did go out on it once
and it had to go back to the factory... Still, there's nothing that feels
like a Parker. It's an "alien" guitar. Definitely different, and definitely
useable and fun to play. I just always keep my LGX handy in case the Fly
preamp blows again. I wouldn't trust it without a backup... But I would buy
another one.

But, come on...how much are you actually *playing* that Parker...come on,
now....

The LGX is sweet. I really love it. I play the Parker all the time, though.
It's hard to put down because it plays so smooth. It's a very precision
guitar.

Cheers!

Since when has "PRS McCarty Hollowbody II" been a "maker"? Your
comprehension skills are *really* poor.

>The Parkers *suck*.

For someone who becomes demented and froths at the mouth when the "obvious
to anyone with at least half a brain" QC problems at Gibson gets mentioned,
that's an interesting statement. Maybe *you* think they suck because you
aren't able to get a decent sound out of them, but plenty of people get
great sounds out of them, and think they are great to play. Just like you
do with your DC. You wouldn't want to appear to be hypocritical in any way,
would you? Surely not.

Look, man, I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

Andrew's Gibson ES355 was from the Custom Shop, and it was also used; i.e. he
has no idea where the hell it came from or who ordered it, despite my
suggesting he contact Gibson to have it tracked down.

All Gibson guitars leave the facilities *stringed*, so you can bet you ass that
they would *notice* a fucking problem that damn large.

It was ordered with 5 slots, or was changed to a nut with 5 slots later.

Period.

Any damn reply he gives to this post is pure *speculation*, unless he says
Gibson said so.

That's dumb, even for you. Why would a Parker want to sound like a Gibson?
It's great the way it is.

there.

He's been on a real endorsement binge, lately, though.

Well then they shouldn't have strung it with six strings. We thought of
that. That's why we checked the shipping label on the box.

And all this is missing the point. That guitar is a killer ES-355. I don't
care if it _was_ for Keef. He can just order another, he's not getting that
one from me. A lapse in QC does not necessarily ruin a guitar.

Conversely, the most well crafted sparkling showpiece can sound like a turd.
Just try one of those PRS McCarty Hollowbodies. Who knows? Maybe you'll be
the first person in history to get a winner.

_All_ manufacturers are going to have the occasional problem with their
guitars. I have an awesome looking Custom Shop Limited Edition Set Neck
Telecaster ("Lesacaster" style) which as you can see by the picture:

http://www.zen-pharaohs.com/lesacast.htm

does not have a set of six matching Schaller locking tuners. Five are of one
sort and the sixth is another. I still haven't got the gold whammy bar which
wasn't shipped with that guitar, (don't really care, I hardly ever use
whammy bars), but it just goes to show that if you go looking for flaws,
they'll be there often enough. I had this guitar for over a year before I
noticed this quirk.

Noticing these things does not amount to bashing the manufacturer. It's
something that happens with anyone who makes a sufficiently large number of
guitars.

No, Pete, you can't have ALL of 'em "There, there," some of 'em have to be
here, here, and some even over there, over there. Monopolizing titties and
