Phil Vassar "Phil Vassar" - his debut CD is a wonderful example
of an artist who can write, sing and play. He also
has
an incredible stage presence! I saw him open for
Jo Dee Messina on July 6th. Some of the best studio
musicians have worked on this record, including
Brent Mason, Michael Landau, Glen Worf,
Dan Dugmore and Lonnie Wilson.

Jo Dee Messina "I'm Alright". This fiesty copper-haired beauty can
sing anything from classic country to kick-ass
rock.
What a show she put on two weeks ago!

Bonnie Raitt "Road Tested." Awesome live album. Her new CD
will be released soon!

Scott Henderson "Tore Down House." Can't wait to see him again in
September at Johnny D's!

Santana "Abraxas." This CD was originally released over
30 years ago and it's still one of my favorites.

Has he mentioned a date yet?
Neither Scott's nor Johnny D's site has an itinerary past mid-August.

I may be in Boston in the first week of September for a trade show
and need to get out of Boston proper in the evenings.

None of the above committed the crimes for which they
were convicted.

On average, approximately twenty-five percent of the
people in prisons in the United States are falsely charged
and are actually innocent. The percentage is even higher
in Peru where Lori Berenson is being unjustly held as a
political prisoner.

That is by far the most utterly absurd and hilarious ststement you have made
here yet, and that's saying a lot. If you had any idea how difficult it is
to actually get arrested, indicted, and convicted for a crime that you did
not commit you would realize how ridiculous you look. There are innocent
people in prison, but the percentage is nowhere near 25%. Todd, you are a

Hmmm...faulty logic, I think. If they're guilty of something, let them be
tried and convicted for that thing. Setting them up for a false conviction
just because "we know they're guilty of something" is a one-way train back
to pre-90s Russia or South Africa (or pre-Civil Rights America).

Not that I buy Todd's 25% figure, which is absurd. I do believe that
there's a great percentage of folks in prison for doing nothing more than
using or selling drugs, I thinks it's something like 25-30%, and THAT's a
real tragedy. No one should be arrested for using drugs, let alone
imprisoned.

I believe that. Of course, if by "indirectly" it is meant "I shot a guy

Now THAT would be a problem.

There are organizations that require large amounts of unreported
liquid assets which only the drug trade can provide.

Every time the legislators raise the penalties on a particular
illicit drug, you can bet that the drug has been deemed a
money maker and that someone wants the market cleared of smaller
competing laboratories.

Legalizing and taxing drugs would remove a cash cow for organizations
and people at a particular confluence of money and power. Don't expect
them to go away overnight.

While it is possibel to argue that Peltier did not receive a fair
trial, and Mumia Abu-Jamal clearly did not get a fair trial, all of
them appear to be guilty of murder on the balance of probabilities.
Lori Berenson was co conspirator in terrorist acts against unarmed
people, and Peltier appears to have murdered a disarmed and helpless
prisoner.

In the case of Peltier, the defence argument is that the FBI were
terrorizing indian activists, which they were, and that Peltier's
actions therefore constitute self defence (which is rather doubtful),
rather than arguing that Peltier did not kill anyone.

Well, I agree with the theory that all humanity had its origins in
Africa. That makes all US citizens African Americans and those born
here Native Americans as well.

OK, let's say about 2-3% of the people convicted and serving prison
sentences in the US are actually not guilty of the crime they were charged
with (which is not even close to the same as being "innocent"). And the
vast majority of people convicted and serving prison sentences in the US are
guilty of many more crimes than they were ever convicted of. But that's
irrelevant to the subject at hand.

I see the world with my own eyes, not through racism tinted glasses or rose
colored glasses. You, OTOH, feel the need to find injustice everywhere yet
you have done nothing to change the justice system. Are you part of the
problem or part of the solution?

> > Whether you choose to live in your little fantasy world or

You have already ststed in the past that you will not assimilate into
American culture, so I guess reality is out of the question too. The bottom
line is, the European settlers destroyed the Native Americans and their
lifestyles in short order. In essence, the Europeans "won" and the Indians
"lost". There's no need to debate the "right" and "wrong" of that reality
because it is reality and it is over. It may not have a nice PC ring to it,
but that's the reality so get used to it and get over it. Furthermore, most
of us don't feel sorry for you. All races of people have been subjected to
persecution and attack throughout history (and are subject to those attacks
again at any time), but some of us move forward sooner than others. Your
repetitous, self-righteous bullshit is tiresome.

That would be pretty hard to do considering that I eat a

I've been a civil rights activist since I was a teenager in
high school in the late 1960s. I've put myself on the line
engaging in civil disobedience many times during those
thirty-five years. I have raised six children to have a
social conscience and am quite proud of their activism
as well.

On top of that, I am currently working on my eleventh
album and my fourth book, having had my first book
published in 1974 and my first record in 1975, not to
mention the thousands of editorial essays I've had
published.

"Reality", as you use the term, is a highly subjective

No, even after five hundred and nine years of genocide,

It is far from over.

Apparently you have never heard of the 'Conspirary To' prison
sentences.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/snitch/

And most of prisoners are in prison for non-violent offenses... being
caught with a joint just NOT justify a life sentence... I don't care
what the law is..

And the FBI coerced witnesses, fabricated evidence, all to convict
Leonard Peltier... His two co-defendants were found 'Innocent by Self
Defense'.
http://www.freepeltier.org/trials_comp.htm#top

You need examples of FBI misconduct?
(1) Conspiracy to [commit] perjury and to cover
up said subornation in the case of Louis Moves
Camp, a prosecution witness;

(2) suppression of an FBI statement exposing
the
perjury of Alexander David Richards, a
prosecution witness;

I could go on for hours.. but you can read it all for yourself at
www.freepeltier.org

The FBI even provided arms to GOONS that helped murder over 65
people..

But of course, it's the FBI.. I guess we can't expect much better from
those morons... I don't trust ANY cases they are involved in..

I was gullible once.. I was also a victim of Violent Crime, but
through years of experience and objective analysis.. 25% is NOT that

Indeed, I've heard that quite a lot of "legitimate" enterprises like big

Most of the economy and government of Mexico has been undermined by drug

As I explained in another post, this thread actually
originated on rec.music.makers.guitar as a musical
question. Stratqueen (AKA The Divine Miss D), on
about a monthly basis or so, posts a heading entitled
"What's In Your CD Player ?", and various regular
denizens of the news group then respond with what
they are currently listening to.

During the latest incarnation of said thread, I posted
this list of compact discs:

Beat 'Em Up (Iggy Pop)
Break Through In Grey Room (William S. Burroughs)
Edge Of The Century (R. Carlos Nakai)
Greatest Fits (Ministry)
It Is Forbidden (Sun Ra)
Machine (Static X)
Music From A Painted Cave (Robert Mirabal)
175 Progress Drive (Mumia Abu-Jamal)
Sensational Guitars Of Dan & Dale (Sun Ra/Blues Project)
Spirit Of The Canyon (Ah Nee Mah)
Tomb Raider Soundtrack [Various Artists]
Tribal Dreams [Various Artists]
Under One Sky [Various Artists]

However, in my standard posting signature was included this:

Free Leonard Peltier !
Free Lori Berenson !
Free Mumia Abu-Jamal !

Free The Western Hemisphere !

Another regular poster from the guitar group named
Odin, who is infamous for his right wing rants, totally
ignored both my album list and the original question by
Stratqueen and instead decided to sidetrack the thread
into politics by posting:

"Tell 'em to stop committing crimes."

That is an unfortunate side effect sometimes. It all
depends on the personality of each reader.

That's cool, but in the past I've had problems with
hypocrites who say don't post your indigenous liberation
philosophies here as they are off topic, and then those
same individuals will start long threads on christianity
or gun control other dominant culture themes that are
equally off topic.

I've been a professional guitar player for several
decades and have already been a regular poster on
rec.music.makers.guitar for two and a half years, during
which time I've contributed much musical content.

Sixteenth century, hell, it's a very common attitude to hold today. People
get excluded from juries all the time for it (though probably not enough) and
I suspect most prosecutors and cops believe it, from what admittedly limited
evidence I've seen. I can't really blame them for it--they deal with the
detrius of society all the time which *has* to be frustrating to no end. But
our legal system was set up on the notion that it is better to let the guilty
go free than unjustly punish the innocent. These protections are in place
very often as responses to quite specific abuses that had occurred in English
law. My favorite is the Bill of Attainder, which is a law that says, in
effect, "Person X is illegal." :)

Well, I call it reality. It works for me. And most of the population of
the US. But you keep right on believing in yourself and keep fighting the

Outrageous suicide rates, unemployment rates, crime rates, etc...the bottom
line - the Europenas were bad for the Native Americans, but there's nothing
to be done about that now so it's time to move forward.

The biggest illicit drug consuming country in the world
is severely undermining its own economy.

The Great Depression was, in part, due to the shadow
economy created by the alcohol Prohibition Era.

Either you have (a) a very different definition of "racist" than the rest of
the world, or (b) you just like to toss around sensational and inflammatory
terms to distract people's mind form the fact that you can't back up your
rhetoric. Either way it's sad. How can you define me as a racist when you
know nothing about me, yet if I attempted to define you with the very same
information you would label me a racist?

Hadda look it up.

Bartleby.com sez:

"An arbitrary warrant of imprisonment; a letter folded and sealed
with the king’s cachet or little seal. These were secret instructions
to the person addressed to proceed against someone named in the letter.
The lieutenant-general of police kept an unlimited number of these
instruments, and anyone, for a consideration, could obtain one, either
to conceal a criminal or to incarcerate someone obnoxious. This power
was abolished in the Revolution."

...to incarcerate someone obnoxious?

What an entertaining idea!

That requisite "consideration" for such a letter was doubtless expensive.

That's right, pup. You post "Free <insert convicted felon here>" and I post

I'm not responsible for your ignorance. I bet you don't

[Cue more mass quantities of stupidity now.]

> Don't know what MC5 is. Don't care to.

Ah, not only ignorance, but apathy as well. The twin
hallmarks of a truly great mind. Not.

The MC5 were a great Detroit band from the late 1960s
and early 1970s who preached radical revolutionary
rhetoric. Their first album "Kick Out The Jams" is
considered by many to be the greatest live album in
rock history, and in many ways, they were the prototype
for Rage Against The Machine.

Your comment about the problem or the solution is
almost a direct quote from an introductory speech by their
manager, radical author and activist John Sinclair, who
was himself immortalized in song by John Lennon who
worked to:

After defining "racist" (because I suspect you have an interesting

It's...it's OVER? Really? Whoo-hoo! Yes! That's GREAT!

Do you know what that means? That means there are no longer hundreds of
thousands of tons of nuclear waste laying exposed on Indian land, while
Congress blocks funds for cleanup!

That means the Western Shoshone are no longer resisting the theft of their
land while the BLM impounds their tribal livestock and auctions them off to
ranchers, to clear the land for chemically-based gold mining!

That means that eighteen tribes no longer have cyanide-conatminated water
from industry polluters which refuse to clean up because "that's Indian
land--THEIR problem!"

That means the Navajo of Big Mountain are no longer being barb-wired away
from their own grazing lands, denied electricity, and denied home repair
permits in an effort to force them off the land so Peabody Coal can
stripmine and use 15,000 gallons of desert water per hour from the tribe's
own land, without a permit, any longer!

That means banks are no longer going to be caught by the U.S. Attorney
General for denying loans to Indians on the basis of racial bias!

That means Indians will no longer lose every single test of the American
Indian Religious Freedom Act since the act's creation!

That means the Indian Claims Commission finding of the U.S. Government will
be honored, which has determined that 30% of the continental U.S. is Tribal
treaty land!

That means there really *weren't* thousands of Indian women in the 1970's
who were illegally sterilized without consent or knowledge while
anaesthitized at IHS hospitals!

That means the burials won't be vandalized any more! And the sacred sites
will be protected under Federal Law--no more blasting and stripmining
shrines!

That means Indians will no longer be beaten or pipe-bombed for attempting to
exercise treaty fishing rights! And tribal treaty terms will be respected!
And tribes will be permitted to enter international conferences without the
U.S. objecting and physically blocking their delegates!

That means the Paiutes will finally be given access to their own water,
which will no longer be dammed away from their land by an act of the Reagan
administration (to present) to bully them into signing over tribal funds to
pay for Army Corps of Engineer projects!

That means the billions of dollars of Indian funds that the federal
government just "lost" has been returned! Remember, that happened with the
Fed refused to allow tribes access to their own accounts, and insisted on
holding them "in trust." Then lost billions, and devoted a couple of million
dollars to "restoring" the accounts. Grand theft indeed! But the money is
back, right? 'Cause otherwise, we'll still be faced with all the internet
bigots who see our poverty and accuse us of just mismanaging ourselves.

That means you can pull the books "All Our Relatrions" (Winona LaDuke), "The
Invasion of Indian Lands in the 20th Century) (Dr. Don Fixico), "State of
Native America" (M. Anette Jaimes), and even my own book "The Last Indian
Wars" off the shelves. After all, those books describe current, ongoing
human rights violations by the U.S. against tribes. But that's all over with
now, eh?

Glad to hear it. Your assurances are convincing.

Not only is having that sickly obnoxious glorification of
plastic right-wing values "Okie From Muskogee" as his
signature song a crime unto itself, but Haggard managed
to finagle a pardon for the burglary felonies of which he
actually was guilty from that brain-dead war criminal
Ronald Reagan, while many innocent political prisoners
continued to rot in jail.

But, on second thought, let's move him a little further
down the list from number one. That spot clearly belongs
to the one and only Jimmy Swaggart.

In fact, how's this for a list of scumsucking bottom
feeders in the musical entertainment industry:

02) Frank Sinatra

05) Merle Haggard

Beats muttering it behind their backs.

You don't make any sense, at all.

One of the FBI agents was shot at point blank range some considerable
time after he were severely wounded. This indicates an execution
rather than a gun battle.

Very likely he did not personally kill them, but if he did not kill
them, those under his authority did.

Yes, it means that it's over and you can begin the assimilation process. Or
not. But either way it's over. HTH.

I'm here to help.

IOW, anyone who disagrees with you on Usenet is a racist. At least you
admit that you're nothing more than a sore loser who has to resort to name
calling when your arguments fails.

Nice denial of reality and refusal to answer the question content.

My list would be pretty short. How's......

Steve "SEFSTRAT" Feder
Polfus
Jarl Sigurd

BTW, Jerry Lewis is great too, but Merle Haggard stomps just about every
nobody on your top 100 lists of guitarosts. He writes better lyrics and
music and definitely plays better guitar than most of your hasbeens on that
list. Without guys like Jerry Lewis and Merle Haggard your list of losers
would be a bit shorter, but I guess you don't know anything about influences
and such.

BTW, you must spend more time crosstrolling your posts than Jarl spends
making up sig files.

How mature. Except I could care less if you like my opinion of Iggy Pop or
if you like Merle Haggard. Besides, Merle Haggard is a legend who keeps
putting out great music, and Iggy Pop is a has been cult figure with no
musical talent.
