Warning!! Bad Taste On The Web
------------------------------
Sometimes when you type a name followed by .com into your browser, you don't
find the site you're looking for - usually because someone else in an
UNRELATED business bought the site first.
However, if you go to Dumble.com to visit the site of one of the worlds
greatest amp builders, you'll see a different situation. This is the site of
Andy Fuchs. Not only does Mr. Fuchs build amps, but he's so familiar with
the work of Alexander Dumble, that he actually uses some of Mr. Dumble's
influences in his circuitry!
Apparently, Mr. Fuchs so admires Alexander Dumble that he felt he should
also own his family name!! Since Alexander is my friend, I felt like I
should make it as public as I can what's being done to him. Of course,
Alexander is taking legal action to stop his name from being used, but this
is expensive. If we let Mr. Fuchs know that this is not how people in our
industry should conduct business, perhaps he'll stop. You can contact him
directly at in...@fuchsaudiotechnology.com
Thanks,
Scott Henderson

I've got two of Andy's "Overdrive Supreme" mods, and I love them both.
If you like the Dumble sound, you'd like Andy's work.
About a year ago, a friend of mine (and amp technician) called me saying
he'd just got a call from HAD, who was pissed about Dumble.com and about
the circuit "influence" in Andy's amps. I wrote Andy about it, but Andy
didn't seem to see HAD's point about Dumble.com.
At that point, I put both amps away and I refuse to use them. I also
cancelled my plans to have Andy build me an amp from scratch. They're
great amps, but I don't agree with Andy's use of Dumble.com.
I only mention this because I understand my name has come up in some of
Andy's advertising. (Why, I'll never know. It goes without saying that
I'm a musical nobody.)

So I've heard.

Using the domain name dumble.com is a bit over the line of ethics IMO.
I don't see any problem with Andy claiming that he builds amps that
rival or surpass Dumble amps in quality or tone (subjective but not
unethical) but I don't think using the Dumble name as your home page
is "right". Maybe not illegal, but not the right thing to do IMO.
> At that point, I put both amps away and I refuse to use them.
IMO that's a ridiculous overreaction. If they're good amps and you
paid for them then why do you care what marketing tactics the builder
has taken? And if the builder's actions so offend you then why not
sell the amps immediately and boycott future purchases? But just
putting them away - doesn't make sense to me. I understand your not
wanting to do business with him but I just don't agree with your
methods of protest. When Smith & Wesson climbed into bed with Clinton
and compromised Americans' rights with an illegal and unethical
collusion contract with the government I, and scores of other S&W
owners, sold all of my S&W firearms and I will never own another S&W
firearm. Apparently enough irate gun owners followed suit, because
shortly after the agreement S&W signed with Clinton/Reno the company
was facing bankruptcy. S&W now is begging gun owners forgiveness and
trying to rebuild but it doesn't seem to be working. Personally, I
hope they go under forever. And Ruger can go with them.

That's a more reasonable approach IMO.

You wrote a positive review of his products so he has used that review
on his site. You could ask that the review be removed.
Andy sounds like a real Fucher.
I'd rather sell them, but they're pretty hard to sell from what I've
seen.

Make 'em cheap enough and they'll sell on Harmony Central.

This is the current url, what's the problem?
The Fuchs modded amps will sell for the right price, I'm sure.
Sadly, this is what happens when there is a demand for an amp they can't get
from the original maker.
Guys like Fuchs and Two Rock and Bruno build clones.
www.dumble.com goes to the same place.
*That* is the problem.
Makes Fuchs look pretty sleazy.

An EX business partner of mine did something similar, despite
my warnings to the contrary. A stubborn one, he is. At least in his
case his family surname is the name in question - but Fuchs != Dumble
though.
EX partner then made the mistake of playing "hardball" with
International Megacorp, Inc. - who is currently making life extremely
interesting for him legally.
Some people don't know when to quit.

Perhaps dumble 'licensed' Fuchs (how DOES one pronounce that name ?) to
clone his amps at a lower price, as he appears to limit the supply of
the real Mccoy to keep the price high.
nope.
>(how DOES one pronounce that name ?)
FOO-khs. The 'OO' rhymes with stoop, the 'khs' is a gutteral
German phoeneme you make as if you're clearing your throat.
I don't really care what the guy does.. It's Dumble's problem. Who here
is gonna get anything for helping Dumble?
All he needs to do is have the Dumble.com address point the person
typing in "dumble.com" right to the http://www.fuchsaudiotechnology.com/
addy instead and be done with it.
Outt..
Jeff.
I've seen a couple of Dumble price lists, at least from a few years back.
Everything was under $3000, as I recall. It's the aftermarket that
drives the prices up, and SFAIK HAD doesn't get any of that action.
Andy makes a damned nice amp if you like that kind of sound, and last I
heard Dumble only deals with stars. I do like that kind of sound, and I
look forward to rehearsing, recording, and gigging with a Fuchs amp just
as soon as Andy does what IMHO is the right thing and drops the link to
dumble.com.
It's tarnish on an otherwise great amplifier engineer (Andy).
Agreed. I sent him an email asking why he's using dumble.com and got back a
one line reply saying "GET A LIFE".
Nice customer service content.
Sad.
Era.

Well, that sucks.

I'm sure he just loves getting nasty e-mails from people that flame each
other all day err.. year on a guitar ng.
Hey Fulltone,
When are you getting your new Dumble amp?
Outt..
Jeff.
That's a mighty high horse yer ridin', pardner.
I imagine he doesn't like getting nasty emails, but I didn't send him one.
Just asked
why he's using someone else's name for his domain. If he has a valid reason
he could
have just said so.
