Have you tried writing lyrics? Bob Dylan is a master easily at the
same level as Coltrane or Davis in his own genre. He is a famously
prolific song writer and it is hard to find fault with his legacy. I
find most people who don't like Bob Dylan are stuck on wanting him to
have a prettier more typical pop voice, I have trouble imagining his
songs sung as memorably by anyone else. His style of singing is very
influenced by the meter of beat poets from the 50's and 60's.
I do agree that it takes some time getting used to his quirks, but it
is well worth the breaking in period. I can also say I am happy that
the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Tom Petty (among countless others) had
an admiration for Bob Dylan, it really helped their lyric writing
progress. I would say it's pretty darn cool that Barack is a Dylan
fan!

As difficult as it is to get away with anything approaching humor around
here, let me say that my previous remark was in the spirit of Bob Dylan's
recent Victoria Secret sales pitch: tongue in cheek.

Speaking as an unreconstructed jazz chauvinist pig, I'll just say this,
there's only really one thing I like better than the sound of Bob Dylan's
singing and that would be the sound of a chicken caught in a vacuum cleaner.
