Licensed psychologist working in nursing homes. That's actually my only
job, since I don't have a night job! I'm not good enough at playing
guitar to get paid for it.
Paul, do you play poker live only, or online too? What games?
I whine about Bush and the Jews pretty much full-time now. My hobby is
wearing white shoes and a white belt right up under my armpits. I am bald
and have a combover, but thanks to vigilant effort and plug transplants, I
still have my 1962 ponytail.

almost exclusively online, no limit holdem cash games (no tournaments,
occasionally I play pot limit omaha for fun). generally play 5/10
blinds, sometimes higher. I play live sometimes for fun and when in
vegas but that's about it.

Cool! I quit chess for poker in Dec.2005, play NLHE SNGs at PS.com mainly.
Some cash games but lower blinds, built a 3000$ bankroll so far.
My business card says "Systems Architect" - which means that I'm old,
but I still get to code everyday. Currently I'm doing Java/Web stuff.
My other hobby, besides playing jazz guitar, is flying 60 year old
airplanes :)

cool man, sngs are a great way to build up a roll. I rarely if ever
play on stars, mainly party and ub.
didn't we talk about poker on email once? btw, ever post on 2+2?

Listen to my music!

I have been playing gigs since 1962. Presently with my jazz trio, "Slow
Motion Monkey."
And of course in the studio when appropriate.
I love arranging strings and horns, and charting sessions (with no
proper education). Just years of books and some very generous friends
who have shown me how.
Like most folks here, I am Google-able under the studio name or Michael
Henry Martin.
But enough about me................

Yep, BAL - now I use it mostly when tuning COBOL, changing
verbs/structures/whatever 'til the instructions in the generated
listing are as efficient as possible; no one really wants you writing
BAL since it's hard to find people to support it...

Henry: That's really cool. To be in the studio biz for that long is a real
achievement. Congrats. I hope you can hang in there a while longer too.

After programming computers and working for "the man" for 20 years. In
1998 I quit and became self-employed, programming embedded systems and
firmware that controls machinery, and collects data in various
manufacturing process settings. Current contract is with a well-known
global truck and engine manufacturer, but have written control code for
machine processing of paper, plastics, foundries/metal casting,
assembly, cnc, even a gizmo that measured how fast a radio signal
travels through 20 foot high coils of coaxial cable for cell phone
towers, as well as the usual temperature, liquid level, and shaft
position data-collection stuff, etc.
Was a music major in college but took a different road. Play guitar
for fun, with the eventual hope of leaving behind some half-decent song
arrangements floating around on the Internet when I pass on, and
improving my playing.

Tom's issue is with psychiatrists (like me) and maybe psychologists,
but in particular anyone who offrs serious criticism of the so-called
Church of Scientology.
I can definitely relate - after my last post I went in for one of
the most gruelling days at work I've had yet, and I'm not even at the
point where my decisions affect a person's life, at least not nearly at
the level when I'm a full-fledged RN. I think that on all three fronts,
though, you're doing great work to help people, so be proud of that!
I'll be praying for you, though.

over the last few years there's been a lot of european union and
english lottery and arts council money pumped into former coal mining
areas which have suffered huge levels of economic deprivation since
Thatcher closed the pits in the mid eighties.
a fair proportion of this regeneration (and associated funding) is
focused on the arts as a tool for education, consultation, community
regeneration, etc etc.
the pot will dry up eventually, but for the last few years and probably
for a couple more to come it's been pretty good for creatives.
my wife does stuff like this too, but she's a painter/ visual artist as
well as a musician/ songwriter, she does well mixing and matching
disciplines.
it's really rewarding work most of the time as you can iimagine.
yep, i've got it good at the moment.
ought to thank my lucky stars more often. I got into this completely
by accident when i was out of a gig about 6 years ago.

Then just a few hours ago, I got an offer to work in San Antonio, TX,
which is a really nice, liveable city with a warm climate, low cost of
living, and easy driving distance to Austin. Woo hoo!
Tom,
Let me be the first to congratulate you on this GREAT news. You are
amongst the most level-headed and sane posters in this place...I can
always rely on you to offer reason and maturity in your posts...plus
your point of view is often offered up with a sense of humour that
almost always has me smiling...That good news you have received
couldn't have happened to a better RMMGJ bloke...

You're gonna love it. Congrats.

Congrats Tom!
San Antone is a beautiful place. And being closer to Austin is a bonus.
The Elephant Room in Austin on 5th street still playing jazz I think.
Of course at Antone's you can get your blues fix.
Hope it works to your good.

I keep thinking about giving up the big-rigs, but it's probably the only
thing keeping me sane.
I went to high school in Vermont. Vermont is the absolute best place in the
entire Universe.
Hell, I'd even think about going back to I.T. if I could do it in Vermont.

That's what I might get back to - with our current I.T. job
environment, I might "have" to go back to teaching (not that I mind - I
really love it) full time. I'd be happier as a jazz guitarist/teacher
in Vermont that an I.T. guru in D.C./NYC (previous homes) anyway.
