Hi Gang, I thought I'd share this with you all since many of you are
friends of mine. Before the rumor mill gets going.
, I had to go into rehab for alcohol. I just recently got out. I
was in a bad way. A warning to all of us who drink. Be
careful!!!!! If you find yourself drinking everyday, CUT IT OUT.
You don't want to experience rehab. Right now I am feeling fine. Glad
I went in.

All the best,
Jimmy Bruno

That's sound advice. Drinking is, to greater or lesser extent, an
occupational hazard for most entertainers. Particularly those who
entertain in drinking establishments--like musicians.

I'm glad to here you're over the biggest hump. Stay strong!

LOL! Many thanks. I figured beofre it gets reported that I am dead
or living on the street in a box I should let everyone know what's
up. It's no big deal. When the wife stages an intervention with kids
Doctor friends and neighbors....it was time to check in! I do
appreciate everyone's thoughts. It is really nice of everyone to send

The 'every day' thing is definitely worth watching. I'm 'dry'
Monday-Wednesday but sometimes trade a day, 3-off 4-on. I'm well under the
recommended intake but do like high ABV drinks. Unfortunately the range of
healthy non-alcoholic drinks, which can be consumed in quantity, is limited
compared to the ranges of alcohol and non-healthy non-alcoholic drinks.

Speaking professionally for a moment, relapse prevention is one of the
most important parts of treatment but often gets short shrift.

Thanks for your input. Right now I like being sober; it's anew
world. I am seeing someone on a regular basis. One thing that made
the detox easy was that I only drank between 4 to 9 PM. The bad
part: I did it everyday and consumed a 1/2 or a whole bottle of
Johnny Walker Black with a two beer backup. I can't believe I did
that. When I smell beer or the scotch it seems to smell like
gasoline. Tim, thanks for your insight

Best of luck with the continuing rehab Jimmy. I think it's great that
you shared it and that might very well help someone else in a similar
situation that reads these posts.

I always thought that spirits tasted like what I imagined jet fuel to
taste like. I'm glad I never developed a taste for them.

Best of luck and prayers if you will take them. I might just say like
Tim that a good support group is what you need. In my work I deal with
these situations all the time as a social worker and in ministry. AA has
great success in preventing relapse and in outlook.

You have taken the big step and I applaud your openness. You always have
a support group here just based the comments posted. Maybe it will help
others who struggle because there are many who battle the disease.

I wonder about my ability to get into problem drinking. I have a drink
every day certainly. I sure likes me a martini, but usually only do
them Fridays and Saturdays. About half the evenings I have one
medium-sized glass of wine with dinner. I occasionally like a beer with
lunch.

But in total it's very rare I do more than two beverages a day. There's
a local deli/pub I use to go to regularly, 3 or 4 days a week, for late
afternoons. There, I had a pint of a good German or craft brew, as did
all my pals. But then they went on to a second, third and even a
fourth pint. Jeez. Just to be sociable I'd sometimes have an
additional 1/2 pint. But if I did two full pints, I'd simply go home
and fall asleep in front of the TV.

If I had three shots of JWB, I think I'd be sleeping on the living room
floor by noon. I'm six foot, 185 lbs, so it's not like I'm spindly or
anything. Biology is a strange thing.

You just replied to a post that's over SIX YEARS OLD,
one that, apparently, you didn't even read. Are you
one of those rock 'n' roll potheads or something?

That vid was posted two days ago. He looked and
sounded just fine to me. Took one sip of scotch;
while that's more scotch than I've had in an entire
lifetime, it didn't look all that dangerous to me.

And I am now going to reply to myself here, since after all, we are simply playing 'time machine'. I just checked out the proposed video. I found my friend to be entirely lucid, candid, intelligent and as generous with his lifetime's full of knowledge, as ever. So, his choice of drink is scotch...big f'n deal!! I teach on line while I sip from a glass of red wine and almost always. It would be much more productive to listen to what the man is saying ( and graciously answering all of those basic questions, to boot ) rather than insinuating and trying to point at his 'presumed demise.'
