I am very interested in this older rag style of jazz, can someone give
me a quick handle on the harmonies with the rag style of music? I'm in
a bit of a rush and know im supposed to do this myself!
a link to the guitar tab would be amazing too.
For actual ragtime, which was popular before Waller was born (which
was before jazz was popular), there's a lot of 16-bar and 12-bar
progressions that begin V-V-I-I-V-V-I-I and have faster harmonic
motion near the end. That's true of guitar rags and non-guitar rags.
Some examples of guitar rags are "Barbershop Rag" by William Moore,
"Georgia Rag" by Blind Willie McTell, "Cincinnati Flow Rag" by Rev.
Gary Davis, "Wilson Rag" by Elizabeth Cotten, "Fat Boy Rag" by Bob
Wills, and "Guitar Rag" by Earl Hooker.

While the dynamics of a guitar's tone and piano's tone is different
enough to sound like a different song at times, that guy has the piano
blues thing on guitar down to a science; whew!

And to prove that type of playing 'aint just for white players or
black bluesmen...

Oh great... Youtube rabbit trails... your vids eventually lead to
Carter family vids, Johhny Cash, Carlene Carter, and on and on... :)-

I have learned many, many pieces like this. I work like crazy to get
two minutes of music down, and then if I don't play it every day I
totally forget it and all that work is down the drain.
But if you want to go down this rabbit hole:

Good book of arrangements. Lasse also has a nice web site with some
freebies in Tabledit format.
