Awesome idea to have a way to chart out music,
and be able to test out what you have written with
the MIDI instruments.

....I'm using it to write the horn parts for my
Bach meets Reggae song.....stay tuned!

:)

Does it do tab?

It does do tab, but I haven't tried that yet.

But it's really a phenomenal program, because it will sound
out the notes as you place them on the staff, making it VERY easy
to find the correct notes by ear. Then, you can run the whole piece
from the top, and see if it sounds reasonably close to what you have
in your head. I say reasonably, because there is only so much
musicality you can expect from a robotic MIDI playback, but it does
give you a very good idea if you are on the right track or not.

I've got to get something like this. I just transcribed a Wes tune for big band, and I can't stand transposing the saxes.
Are there any cheap/free programs like this?
TIA

Yeah, it's a real pain the ass! Everything up a Major 6th...damn.

But this program makes it much easier, and it makes much, much
cleaner notes than you can draw by hand. There are some editing bugs
in the software, but it's not too hard to get it to do what you want,
and you can transpose to any key, but I haven't tried that function yet.

And, MuseScore is FREE. Donations accepted apparently....
