I tried the stealth 10 and liked it but was not blown away, so I
traded it for the NY8 . I am completely blown away by the sound of the
NY8 , and it actually seems much louder and clearer than the 10,
though not sure how this is possible
one question : how do you clarus users get the head to balance evenly
on the cabinet ? on my RE the handle makes it wobbly .
BTW I ordered via J Hale , what an awesome online buying
experience!!!

I agree with you - the 8 is fat and sweet and very direct - it's a
great combo with the Clarus!

I have the same rig and absolutely love it. On the advice I received
from another rmmgjer Danny W) , I've found the NY8 sounds even better
if you raise it up off the floor. And another plus is it's very light
and easy to carry.

I have an RE 10 and 12, and just saw Chris Buzzelli play last week
with an NY8. He said that the 8 was the only cabinet he uses unless he
works with a vocalist (then he would use a 12). I find the 10s and 12s
to be VERY bass heavy, and I usually have to turn down the bass on my
Acoustic Image Focus amp significantly when I use the 10 or 12.

Sheryl, if I remember correctly, you used to be a big fan of the Tech
21 Trademark 60 amp. Do you prefer the Clarus to the Tech 21? My Tech
21 is much warmer sounding than my AI Focus (like a high-powered
Clarus), but the Focus is more transparent sounding, which I know a
lot of people prefer.

I used to play the tech 21, which I really dug, but I don't have it
anymore. I used it on "The Power of 3!" - I've been using my PhatKat
from JazzKat for live stuff, and I use the Clarus 2R and Raezor's Edge
at home (though I just recorded some quartet stuff with it, and it
sounds like liquid butter!). I like both of those set ups, but like
the PhatKat to cart around, and I think it might be punchier for the
small 335 type guitar that I play.

be heavy on the bass compared to the 12 or 10. I have never tried it
with anything but my twin 8 and the RE 2R. I do know that getting it up
off the floor is key and it sounds much better. I love mine and it makes
all my guitars sound better. I wish someone in the neighborhood had one
I could try.

I am glad to hear your comments on the Phatkat.
I have been playing a JazzKat since they first came out, but am tired
of the boxy sound and lack of bass response.
I have been thinking about the Henricksen, but will try the Phatty

As good as the NY8 sounds with the Clarus, the real killer is to use
Two NY8's with a clarus. Pulls more power from the amp, moves more
air, but best of all allows a wider dispersion of sound into the room.
I have two RE-12s also but I never take them out anymore. The two
NY8 sound is completely different from the Twin-8 cab, however.

small world - i'm one of chris's students! i just played through that
set up on his guitar, i sat in on his gig at the local wednesday night
jazz club here in bowling green. he was telling me about his trip to
chicago last week..

really liked it too. Now you have me thinking that maybe I should try
a NY8 since everyone likes them so much.

Martin, I haven't compared those specific combinations., but I have
compared the larger RS-12ER to Raezer's equivalents. As you know, a
brand is not going to be superior in all sizes. However, in general,
the REs tended to have a little more lower midrange punch. In the RE
12s, you have to get them up off the floor and watch out for excessive
bass due to room interaction. The RS didn't have this issue. However,
in an 8" you'll want it to mate with the room.
You can get what you're considering on approval and do your own shoot
out. It's really a personal thing. I CAN say that both makers offer
good value.
If I could have only one cab, it'd be the NY 8-ER, which is great for
traditional jazz guitar sound and then switches over for a great
acoustic or nylon string cab.
You buy RS direct. For RE, there are a number of dealers. I like
Legato and Hale the most. Be sure to let them know if you buy on
approval. You'll only be at risk for the shipping of the rejected
unit.
