I found Soundslice (https://www.soundslice.com/) I tried it a bit and went back to audacity . I had Transcribe but lost it when a computer died.

I'll have to look up VLC I don't understand how to do what you are describing

Encounters with TD are ALWAYS helpful!!!

So I'm working on my new practice plan for 2013. It's to include learning tunes, digesting them more harmonically , and transcribing

In the last two weeks I put together my wanna do/already know standards book what is kind of cool is how many tunes I at least sort-of knew from going out to hear live jazz.

I do this way.

google "strip audio from youtube".

You will find a website that takes the youtube url and creates an mp3.

Then I put the mp3 in ASD.

All the programs you indicate seem to do something different. VLC is
just a video playback program but it will let you slow it down. It
won't let you slow it down in pitch though.

I have a couple of utilities that will let me download flash video
files (.flv) from YouTube. I cull the audio from a youtube using
Amadeus Pro, or snatch the original audio from YouTube using HiJack
Pro. I slowdown the audio--and retain or reconfigure pitch--while using
Transcribe and Djay.

All the programs are for Mac OS, but some are operable on a PC.

I thought the soundslice deal was going to be something where you could put a youtube vid into it and then slow down the video and not change the pitch. At first look that does appear to be the case but it also seems to be kind of public...I dont like that ... I'd rather do my transcribing in the privacy of my own home with nobody watching and all : )

I use Transcribe! for videos. Quicktime .mov files load in and obey all the rules in Transcribe! for both audio and video. Great tool for Skype lessons recorded with "Call Recorder" for mac.

If you had a legit copy of transcribe and paid for the registration key,
you should be able to just email him and he'll send it to you. Then
just download the latest version.

Great suggestion, Rick. I had an early version but had lost the license key over the years. Mailed Andy Robinson and just got it sorted. The current version is really good - great to be able to work with video.
