Howdy - I have "old" (3yo) EMU 1616 laptop audio interface. It was
working
well on my old laptop but that machine died and newer laptops usually
come
with PCIe (Express Card) slots. I emailed EMU support and they gave me
couple
names of converter adapters:
* Duel Systems ExpressCard Adaptor
http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001
* StarTech PCMCIA to ExpressCard adaptor
* Addonics ADEX34CB PCMCIA to ExpressCard Adapter

But they could not give me any specific information if those
converters
would work with 1616. So my question is - anybody had any succesful
experience
running PCMCIA based audio interface via such adapter?

Unfortunately, there is no way to really know until you try it. The
thing is these adapters are bulky and will stick out quite a bit.
Quite fragile as well so a innocent side swipe accident can be a
disaster.

I am in the same boat as you and many others. I decided to retire my
Echo Layla and go with the RME with express card. Also, with Windows
7, I don't have any drivers for this old but yet great Echo Layla
interface.
