Does anyone have personal experience with a national print chain that will scan a book of sheet music into a PDF file?

I'm downsizing and I need to put a lot of my music books into storage.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Places that do the copying for you charge a lot for the service because its so time consuming. Look at some of the online copies of fakebooks and you can see the results of people getting tired scanning page after page.

You can do it yourself most multi-function printer/scanners and scan to a file then covert the file to whatever format you want. If you want PDF's you will probably need the full Adobe Acrobat writer software and its not cheap. There are some freeware software for working with PDF's but they vary in capabilities. If you look around.

You might want to get an estimate from a copy shop for cost or have one book done to get a feel for price. Then figure out cost if you do it or maybe hire a student or someone looking for work to do the scanning for you.

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I don't own a scanner.
I just called FedEx office, and they won't do it because of copyright issues, but they will let you do it in the self-service area for 45 cents a minute.
Perhaps that is the way to go.

Dude -

I bought a scanne/rcopier/printer at Sam's Club three weeks ago
for $39. Works great, makes copies or .pdfs. Why give your
bread to FedEx when you can have your .pdfs plus a new piece
of gear for less than you'd pay FedEx just to make the files?

Do as LV says, buy a scanner and do it yourself.

If you are too busy, have the butler do it. If Jeeves is on holiday then the scullery maid will just have to do..

As others have said, if you've got the time, just get the cheapest Epson or
Canon page scanner that will do the size you need (The US$149.95 Epson V500
would be overkill) and a program called Vuescan, and do it yourself.
Vuescan will make multi-page PDF files and scans with the minimum pain and
BS. And does a better job of scanning than Epson software.

Unfortunately, I am in a major space crunch right now. Downsizing from a big house to a little condo.
Don't even have room for a printer. Most of my music books are in storage.

...

Since the unit - now reduced to $34.95 since I got mine -
costs less than you can get the job done anywhere, buy
one, do whatever you need to do with it and then give
it to your sister OR PITCH IT IN THE FUCKIN' SHITCAN!

Some people are determined to make things hard for
themselves. I quit.

Jeeves is a valet, not a butler.

While strictly speaking this is true, it is also well known that "If the call comes, he can buttle with the best of them" (Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves 1963).

I'll actually answer your question. :)

I use my local UPS Store for all sorts of things like this, e.g., print
out and bind a PDF. They're a full-service establishment and at least
the one in our town has been great to work with. All you need to do is
give them the pile of papers and have them call you when it's done, and
I'm sure they'll email it to you if that's what you'd rather.

Whether or not they consent to do it, the copyright issue
remains. He must do as Lord Valve says. Sheesh...
