I prefer his stuff which sounds less like RF. It's a tough world for players
who sound much like an established big name. At one level they have a job
for life doing commercial work, jingles, TV incidental stuff
'in-the-style-of', but even if they're as good or even better than the
established name, they're rarely going to prevail with a solo career on that
basis (unless the established name is no longer around). I'm sure there are
probably exceptions to this.
I'm not really sure how much of a solo career Josh is after. He moved
out to the west coast from the midwest a few years ago to pursue a
career as a sideman/session player and that's working out pretty well
for him. He's done a number of relatively high profile tours and
seems to stay working most of the time. Interestingly, his sideman
work is not "in-the-style-of" but rather mostly playing various forms
of R&B.
yeah he seems to be doing alright for himself. I havne't seen him in
over 10 years. he's originally from south florida. he's a few years
older than me, but when we were teenagers we played together a little
bit. He was doing this SRV thing back then.
