Clif Kuplen
Ivan Rodriguez
Wesley Dick
Mr. Will
Thom J (who I did hear from a year ago)
Margaret Wilson
Rick Del Savio (popped in recently and we know he's playing!)
Tom Lippincott
Reverand Lawson Stone
Bill Fender (still doing well in his new digs; I emailed him recently)
Jay Wolfe (wonder if he's still riding his Harley)
David Moss (who switched to upright bass)
Vince McKnight (who I hear from now and then)
Larry Vinguealt (I believe I misspelled his last name)
Jeremy Poparad
Pat Smith
Pt
Rick Handel
Jimmy Bruno (miss his posts; I loved his honesty)
And let's not forget RRMGJ'ers we've lost, including Peter Grey.
... I know I'm leaving out folks as I always do when I post this
thread...
And to all of you faithful who still post here and put up with folks
like me who steal as much knowledge as we can from you, while
pretending we know something, I hope you have a great Christmas
holiday season!
Greg
Remember that a while back I made the point that since the internet
providers drop their support for usenet, we should probably find another
place to hang out. Yeah, some people told me about Eternal September
and I've now set that up as my news server, but I bet that a lot of the
attrition we've been seeing here over the past few years has to do with
this. I mean you can use Google "groups" but it's really a drag. I'm
sure more than a few just decided it wasn't worth the time and trouble.

He said his health wasn't good, and he was going thru some financial
hardship. I hope he is well.
I heard from Pt this summer/early fall. He got married, and we can
only hope he is engaged in more fulfilling activies than posting
here. :-)

I still read here just about every day, and I do occasionally post.
My ISP dropped newsgroup service a couple years ago, so I've been
using Googlegroups, which I really don't like the interface of, so
it's drastically cut back on my tendency to reply to a thread instead
of just reading.
Merry Christmas to all. I hardly read this group anymore and
certainly don't post much. Every time I say something it causes too
much BS. I guess not too many people want to hear what the real world
of a jazz musician is like.
But nevertheless, I like most of the people on the group
Ah-ha! My plan is working... all I have to do is say something JB
finds offensive and maybe we can get him posting again :)-
Merry Christmas, Jimmy.
Greg
The NY Yankees newsgroup was inundated by junk posts about watches
etc. and moved to a google group. It is thriving over there. And you
have to become a member, but that wouldn't be a problem for any of
us. Although maybe a few troublemakers could be kept out. ;-)
LOL! The main reason is time. I have no time to post or read. The
online school keeps me very busy
The ones who get all bent out of shape by what you say are kind of
like a bunch of plain looking high school girls who get all pissed off
and start saying catty things when a beautiful babe comes to their
school.
Merry Christmas!

That was fucked up, some assholes with no class set upon him like a
pack of snarling mongrels. I wonder about him, too.
I just found this:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=14463
Google probably single-handedly saved usenet from demise, or at least
gave it a broader audience. I like having the group available on HTTP
as many networks, (both private and public networks), are now blocking
the NNTP ports. The fewer ports a company has open, the less chance
of security breaches. Many are even closing FTP ports now and the
SMTP mail ports as well, (just try connecting your Outlook mail client
from the airport wireless), you will most-likely have to use a mail
web client instead. Seems everything is going over HTTP these days,
may as well join em.
There was that guy active in a military jazz band a few years ago too,
forgot his name.
You know, some of those plain looking high school girls turned out to
be babes in adulthood, meaning we missed out... I'm just sayin'... :)-
Greg
Well, that's a good thing. You are excused from posting then :)-
We need time travel technology, so we can go back and make amends.
Johnny
Come pick me up when you get it working. I have lots of amends to
make :)

Thanks for that Johnny, because his vid site and email address went
dark. Happy holidays.

I miss Clif's take on songs that most jazz players never touch. It was
nice to hear him play again. And I see he's on the "right" side of
politics, too :)-
Greg
Jack,
I love it - the looks, intonation, weight, handling ergos, and
playability are just fantastic. It has 2 finish marks, but it's used
so I count myself lucky it doesn't have 30 finish marks :) It looks
like a piece of art, imo.
I'm not into the guitar for its acoustic tone, though it's nice that
it is as loud as it is. Heck, I don't even like to play my flattop
acoustic guitar acoustically; much rather have it plugged in.
However, the stock pickup is fairly bright and a little thin sounding,
though not what I'd call stark like, say, a Yamaha SA2100/2200. I'm
reluctant to put flats on it, which would likely change the tone a
little, but I really like rounds on the Eastman.
I could live with the amplified tone given the guitar's other
virtues.
That said, I have a Benedetto S6 (Seymour Duncan version; couldn't
find the orig Armstrong version) coming in. So if I get the guts up to
change it out myself or pay to have it done, I'll see the dif it
makes. Maybe I can set it up with plugs for a quick pup change.
I don't want it to sound like a 175, but a little meatier amplified
tone would be good. However, if I was to use this guitar for light pop
music with lots of open chords and such, I might just keep the stock
pup as is becasue it soudns pretty good for that.
Greg
Wesley Dick must be getting up in years but I am forever grateful I
never have had to load a tune myself in BIAB he put them up for all.
Greg, you were gone for awhile and now back posting like mad. Good to
hear your voice.
These days I seem to play a little and have been doing a lot of repair
and I never advertise. I just finished up an old Kay archtop that need
some repaired cracks and a new bridge, it sounds good and plays great.
Managed to get a ES 175 neck straight ( too much bow) with some old
tricks from my late friend Bill Hollenbeck.
In any case I wish all of the group a Merry Christmas and stockings full
of useful guitar stuff. If we have not heard from anyone chime in a
tells us hello.

Hey, Mark. I'm between classes, so I have more time on my hands. Next
semester I take 2 classes, which is just one less than full-time, so I
may not frequent the board as much. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Greg
Merry Christmas to you too, Greg.
The technology has come quite a way since this group got started back in the
mid 90s. These days people have texting, blogs, twitter, facebook and other
assorted time-wasters with which to amuse themselves. I'm not sure if the
younger people even know what usenet is anymore. A lot of the isps don't
offer the service like they once did.
Maybe some of the people on your list will check in at some point just for
laughs. ....joe

Ditto, or feel free to substitute a different holiday of your choice.
Yeah, but your typing has improved dramatically!

disappeared. I think he might have been Canadjun too.
Then there's . .
