Went to a musician friend's 40th on Saturday, the first time I have
played out in years. Some highlights:
Friend witnessed a robbery in progress at the local 7-11 when he went to
get supplies for the cook. Potentially dangerous, but no harm done and
robbery foiled.
Excellent home brew donated by friends neighbour as a birthday present.
Very heavily hopped, much nicer than the limp-wristed VB and XXXX Bitter
I usually drink.
I can still jump into a duo after about 10 seconds of listening. I'm
pleased that my improv skills still seem to be on the up.
Friend's dad, about the same age as me, enjoyed the kind of stuff I
play, and had a fair bit of background knowledge of it. Surprised me a
bit for a wheat grower from the Liverpool Plains. You never can tell eh?
<Sigh> He did ask if I knew any Slim Dusty though.
After a couple or three beers I sang a bit, and got my daughter to join
in, which was great

Most people seem to drink the "limp wristed" lager style "beers" these
days, dreadful stuff. Give me a good ale any day.

whichever full strength is on special - and that wouldn't be Coopers -
either of the two I mentioned. I also like draught Kilkenny and Guinness
- not the widget stuff in cans.

amateur/low pro music scene. <g> If I could just find a compatible
vocalist who didn't generate aggro with my wife, I could likely get a
few playing opportunities. - I'm still remembered in the local
folk/blues scene. There aren't many alternating bass players in
Queensland, and maybe none except me who also does it primarily in slide.
