Advice on hand painting my acoustic guitar

at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and I've got a hankering to do the
same with my Seagull Grand Artist. Does anyone have any advice on how
to go about doing it without totally ruining the sound of the guitar?
I mean, how do you sand the thing just enough to get the lacquer off?
What kind of paints should I use? That kind of stuff.

Keep the layers of paint as thin as possible.

I wouldn't. You should be able to apply paint over the finish without an
enormous impact on the tone (unless you're applying it with a PUTTY knife....)
Taking the finish off first is pretty irrevocable, and I just wouldn't mess
with it at all, if I were you.

Try acrylics. They're pretty benign in terms of chemical composition, they
shouldn't react adversely with anything, the colors are vivid and you can
create all sorts of cool effects with washes if you dilute them with water.

cool..Personally I'd do it with an old beater guitar acquired just for that
purpose, and keep another guitar that *sounds* good. Unless you have excess
Martins cluttering up the house, in which case I'd be happy to help out by
taking one off your hands ;-)

I need a clear picture of Charles Park to model for the soundboard montage and
a pre-loss picture of Dorgan's butt for the backboard.
The front will depict Charles being strangled by Willie Nelson as he explains

Do yall think this will effect the tone of the Santa Cruz? It has a PUTW "27
pickup. Will I need an upgrade to maintain the high standard of the guitar
muralette?

Hmmm. I'd guess that with Dorgan's butt you're gonna get a lot of "honk" in
which case I'd recommend a BUTTWA pickup.

is. If it is an oil-based finish, you can't use acrylics. (you can use
oil on acrylic, but not vice versa).
Oil paints have the advantage that they thin down (with a thinner like
linseed oil or turpentine) nicer than acrylics do. If you want a bunch
of colors, you can get one of those little starter sets.
Acrylics are easier to wash up though.
