I think Mom and/or Dad are probably performers. I see the same thing in
young Classical performers who have been "coached" by their teachers.
It's sometimes hard to not chuckle when a 9 year old, with a full size
guitar, takes that dramatic pause for focus before the first note and
then proceeds to blow your mind.
I've watched a young player develop from a beginner to an accomplished,
touring professional at 16, with a GFA competition win a couple of years
ago.

fell like rain...", and it renders the song unlistenable, IMHO. I
would certainly not call it a "pretty good understanding of the song."
As for the level of "understanding of the song" having to do with the
meaning of the lyrics, I think 95% of the people who hear that song
don't understand it, and I saw no evidence in the video that this girl
is any different.
She may have talent and could mature into a wonderful artist, but I
don't think it will be on the strength of this performance.

I haven't hit the link and won't. But last week at a restaurant where a
true hero of music, (who happens to be an old fart, even older than I
am) has been holding court once a week, a gal in her twenties came up
after other folks had gotten the whole room going very well, and
proceeded to bring the room to a polite halt.
She preened and butt-wiggled and ran her hand through her hair between
chord changes and vocal lines, posturing ridiculously, just generally
doing the bullshit diva thing. Fletcher got up and went into the bar
area to watch the World Series.
Then instead of singing her three tunes and stepping down as had far
better artists, she went on for another two songs. You could almost hear
the room snoring between rounds of courteous applause.
I turned to Shaidri and said, "Some people have spent much more time
watching 'music' videos than they have learning to play their guitar".

I didn't see anything wrong with it. She played the guitar, she sang,
she tried to look cute, or sassy and maybe more adult than a girl that
age should by tossing her hair but the main thing is that she was
comfortable playing that finger style guitar and do a decent job of
singing the song.

I think she's talented too and if she's my daughter, I'm proud. OTOH,
her voice and mannerisms seemed to grate on me. But she seemed into
it, maybe a little posed, but fairly genuine. Some tweeking on the
recording could make the voice less grating probably.
Another thing - I just have this feeling she's too "young" for that
song (one of the great lyrics imho). Part of the grating for me

This young girl has the capacity to be talented. She can sing on key, and
she has the basic ability to play the guitar. The problem here is NOT hers,
but that of the adult(s) who coached her, and the adult who suggested that
she sing this song, which is totally wrong for a child this age. She could
not possibly comprehend, on any level, what this song is about. So how can
she sing it in any genuine fashion?
This reminds me of kids who participate in beauty contests... you know, the
Jon Bonets of the world, and their parents, who dress them in clothes that
are inappropriate, put make-up on them, and teach them to primp and preen in
order to appear "sexy"... which is exactly what this child is doing. I can
just imagine her voice teacher, standing off to the side coaching her on
elocution. The fault here is NOT the child's. She needs a warm empathetic
adult in her life who can nurture her talent and help her to appreciate
herself just as she is... which at the moment is a little girl... not an
adult woman.

I dunno - my 8-year-old daughter watched the video with me, and then
she insisted on watching the song by all sorts of other people on
you-tube, and she loves the song and now she wants to sing it. That
she doesn't understand it doesn't seem to me to be a big deal. I'm
not so sure thatg *I* understand it either. She just likes the
melody, the sounds of the words and the way it can be sung. I
certainly don't think it's on par with Jon-Benet Ramsay "sexy" stuff.
