Also at that time, there was discussion about a gathering in
Virginia. I didn't go in '98, but in 2002, I made my first
journey to the EC Gathering and also attended EC the following
year. Since that time, I have attended the UK gathering four
times and have attended smaller gatherings in Texas, New Jersey
and here in New England. It's been through these gatherings that
I have met and gotten to know many of the people that have been
a part of this group. Many of these folks have become close
friends and I have seen that when it comes to friends,
(especially those in need) these people step up to the plate.
I bring this up because it's been a horrendous year of loss in
the friend category this year. Many of you know that my younger
brother passed away in 2007, but the culmination of losing seven
friends since July has been quite a lot to take in.
And all of us here were saddened by the sudden death of Lance
McCollum last February.
My point in saying all of this is that friends are a gift that
we are given and sometimes, like a lot of things in our lives,
we don't appreciate our friends until they are no longer here on
Earth.
I say this because RMMGA has given me some of the dearest
friends I have and at this time of peace, joy and love, I just
want to say thanks.

Beautifully said, Deb! Although I haven't made it EC yet, I have met
several of the wonderful people around here. When I told my kids that I
was going to meet people from the internet, they gave me the usual
warnings and cautions that they heard 100 times. I told them they
needn't worry. These are great folks who are all into guitars.

I agree. I feel the loss every time one of us is no longer there. This is
a family. Maybe a little dysfunctional. But a family none the less.
My best wishes to all of you for a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday.
Love to all.

A tip o' the hat to you, m'am; well said.

It has been a bad year for that. It's a reminder that we're getting
older, I guess. And even more, it's a reminder that we've *got* friends
to lose. It could be worse!
A lady Cea and I had known for over 30 years died a couple of weeks ago.
She was about to turn 94, had been ready to go for at least a year, and
died peacefully with her daughter and a grandson by her side. We are
sorry to lose her, but much more, we're happy that she finally got free
of a body that had worn out so far she couldn't even dance all night any
more.

I echo this sentiment. Our friends from RMMGA are some of the finest
people we know, and I thank you all for being there. Merry Christmas,
Happy Chanukah, Superb Solstice -- whatever you want to call the time, I
wish you peace and joy, now and always.

Not snipping a thing. Thanks for posting this, Deb. This is a pretty
special place.
Hope you and yours have a great holiday.

The newsgroup suffered some severe losses the past two-three years.
We've had a few members pass away, we've lost a few who didn't want to deal
with changing news servers and we lost a few
during the unpleasantness of the US election.
Look on the bright side---- you still got me and Tom from Texas.
You couldn't run him off by sticking a bone up his butt and setting a pack
of bloodhounds on him.
Happy Holidays to you and yours, Deb.

Beautiful thoughts, Deb, with which I wholeheatedly concur. Whenever I
experience a loss, my consolation is reminding myself how fortunate I
am to have so much to lose.
All the best to all.

P.S. Looking forward to Jan 28!
how about an Easternmost RMMGA Winter Gathering? How many do we need
to call it a Gathering? Maybe I could talk Cathy C into coming south.
Any of you other northerners?

Your post has been the occasion of much thought, both good and bad. I
lost my own younger brother two years ago, January, and I know others
have had similar losses. We have lost some of our own, that's sad, but
not entirely unexpected. We, as a group, are reaching the age where we
do begin to lose our contemporaries - intimations of our own mortality.
However, what a miracle this group is. As you and others have said,
this group has brightened our lives immeasurably. I know it has
enriched mine, and many of the folks who have responded to this thread
are foremost among the friends I've made here. God bless you all, every
one.

And heaven knows that's been tried by more than one group of people.... I
even think a pack of apes tried that at the zoo once.
And love back to you T f T. The above is so true.

Jeez...I'm not going to apologise or anything...
I love all of you.
Sometimes, I even love my wife and kids.
Not all the time though - particularly when they're home....
Pete (actually, I wish David was here. He's sitting it out in some
boozer run by the delectable Anna, but I know he'd rather be here -
it's Christmas, but not quite).
I love cats! We have two here that practically run the
place. I'll certainly let you know if I get back to
Iowa. I was there in January, but up at KUNI to do
"Live In the Studio".
Thanks for your insights and I am glad that things are
going ok for you, Larry. Your contributions here are
valuable, IMHO.
Best,
Deb

I am without cat at the moment.
My last one had a nasty accident and I'm still reluctant to commit again.
It leaves a hole though.

But as someone who was at EC1, it's great to see that Bobs & Ed Ed...
are still around. Yeah, I don't read or post very often any more
(retirement & no need to sit in front of a computer 8 hours a day
faking it), but it's still good to be able to come back every now and
again to see how old friends are doing.
I've been spending the day ripping the last of the CDs from my
collection that haven't been ripped yet. Fun seeing so many names of
people I've met through this group (and that I like)
