Tom,
You might want to get ahold of "Clapton's Guitar", a wonderful book
about Wayne and the guitars he builds. That little town he talks
about, Rugby, VA, has seven (7) (VII) people. He's not kidding about
people taking turns being mayor and town drunk... :-)
The waiting list for one of his guitars is ten years. There's a
picture of Wayne I first saw in The Fretboard Journal. He's drilling
a hole into the neck black while holding the guitar between his
knees!! I can't imagine Bill Collings' reaction if one of his workers
tried that.....
I gave about ten minutes of thought to trying to get him to build me a
guitar. Then I looked around the house.... Then I thought I might
not have ten years left!! I plan on stopping in Rugby just to visit
his shop. I will NOT order a guitar!!
Oh, yeah.... He's a pretty good picker!

A good combo, IMV. Good luck with it ;-)
I have several Collings that are more than meeting my meager
requirements these days.... One is one of those varnish deals, and it
is LOUD...
I need volume these days.....

Apparently, you can go to the head of the line if you have something
Wayne wants. One guy in the UMGF got preferential treatment because he
had an old shotgun that Wayne wanted.
Tom Reese
Yep, that seems to be the case. The guy who wrote the book had a 1947
D18... It's a birth-year guitar for Wayne, and he was pretty
interested in the thing.
It helped....
Let's see... what do I have?? Wayne drives an old Baby Bird, so I
guess he wouldn't be interested in my 55....
Oh, well....
Norman (I'm Keeping The Car!!) Draper
Well...if you want the Henderson bad enough, you could open the vault
and trade him the Framus for it.
How dare you mention a mere Henderson in the same sentence with The
Mighty Framus.....

Are you serious Norm? Wayne has a '55? Do you???

Geezer
Wayne has a 55 or 56 Thunderbird; I have a 55 Chevrolet....

KOOL!
Sue will stop by to steal it next week!
That's her favorite!
Geezer
Tell her she'll have to stand in the "to be stolen" line.... People
really seem to like this thing!
They like it until I tell them the mileage.....
Norman (Anout Ten MPG....) Draper
The road version of the Ford GT40 manages all of 4mpg.
About 90 miles on a tank.
MJRB
On a long run, i could get about 750 miles out of the Saab on a full
tank....
not that i can afford to fill the tank, so it's hyperthetical.
Apparently, the back of a GT-40 looks like this :

My tank wouldn't last long on that.
C.
I get about 620 km on a tank in my Suzuki Ignis.

>Wayne has a 55 or 56 Thunderbird; I have a 55 Chevrolet....
A lot of people cherish vintage cars from their youth.
Why did you want one that was built when you were in your 40s?
You should have gone for a horse drawn carriage.

I know its a newer model but I like the classic lines on that one.

As a young married couple, Bob and Theresa Dorgan used to enjoy taking
romantic drives through the countryside surrounding the beautious
village of Phelps, the Sauerkraut Capital of the World, in the first
new vehicle Bobs could afford. From the archives:

new everyday.

I can't wait to point out to Theresa that you called her old.
It's been nice knowing you.
dorgan
WHOA there, big boy!! I said "a young married couple"....
Theresa has remained youthful, beautiful, and vibrant.
You.... didn't.

When I was teaching, one year this guy sent his son to high school in a
perfect red and white 56 Chevy Bel Aire, just like the one I had in
college. Color me green.
btw, the dad's was blue and white.

No wonder it can take a decade for him to deliver a guitar. He spends
most of his time playing! Sounds terrific.

shut up and play your guitar

That's not just "playing", that's the essential quality control check he
performs on every instrument before it leaves his shop. It's necessary.
Tom,
Here's a longer Henderson video that Kate sent me the other day.
I think it's pretty cool... Man, can he ever play.

By the way, the first guitar he built was made of cardboard, I
believe... Really!
