I had four ancestors who were Organists and Choirmasters in Anglican
Churches throughout the mid and late 1800's. Their names were John,
George, Henry and William Carter.

John, Henry and William had all been the Organists and Choirmasters
at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Quebec City.

George was Organist and Choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral in
Montreal for ten years from 1861 to1871. He was a compiler of A
Compilation of Anthems as Sung in the Cathedrals of Montreal in 1865.

John was also Organist and Choirmster at St. James' Cathedral for
twenty three years from 1856-1879. I am told that he founded the
Saced Harmonic Choir who presented the first presentation of the
Messiah at the St. Lawrence Hall.

His brother Henry was presenting a simaltaneous production at the
Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Quebec City. Hehry also became a
church organist and teacher at the College of Music in Cincinnatti,
Ohio.

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of these gentleman or if
there is any of their music still in existance and being used in the
church.
All were apparently prolific composers of hymns, anthems and various
church music.

Also had a Great Uncle Alfred Ernest Carter who was Organist at St.
James Cathedral in Toronto from 1888-?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
