I hate to see bad feelings continue at a time like this and in this way.
Anger mixed with grief is indeed a sad and destructive combination.
Sadly also she has, in a way, answered her own question.

Wishing you and all my colleagues here at rec.music.makers.bowed-strings a
happy holiday and all the best of health, peace of heart and good fortune
this new year.
My heart is troubled by my own recent confusion regarding whether Connie has
passed away or whether she is reincarnated in other forms in various music
groups on the net. It appears that she has truly left us.
I try to remember on the best of Connie. I personally have never received
such a nasty email from Connie herself and I understand that some people
will not accept criticisms no matter how tactfully worded or well intended.
So be it. I never tried to offer Connie advice. I try to remember someone
with a passion for music who was always in search of self-improvement, in
personal matters of self-improvement as well as in violin pedagogy. She had
the courage to ask the apparently simple question and sought to be
enlightened. Her webpages are repleat with advice and teaching. I hope
Susan will find the strength to continue her mother`s work. I realize Susan
is in mourning and angry at the world. I do not blame her. It is an
understandable reaction. I pray that Connie will be able to help her
daughter overcome these difficult times and provide the consolation that I
have tried to do. Now is the time, IMHO to remember the best and to pray
for forgiveness, and to give thanks for what we have and the life that God
has given each one of us. It is easier said than done, agreed. But, as my
highschool principal once told me, "The best things in life are difficult to
do; if it is easy, it is probably not worth doing."
Happy New Year to all,

Quite frequently patients whom I have known for many years apologize for
the complex and difficult problems they bring to me. My reply always
goes much the same way, "I only have to deal with your difficulties for
fifteen minutes once or twice a month, you have to live with it all the
time". People who attack others because they disagree with them seldom
do so out of simple malice. They do so because they were taught in
their formative years to react to ignorance and differences of opinion
with anger and contempt, drawing on a supply that they carry all the
time since they were first treated that way. It is a view of the world
that is difficult to shed as every angry counterattack gives that view

It takes an unhappy and tortured soul to be so angry toward others. Let

People keep accusing ME of being Connie, and I know her but I'm NOT
HER - but I'm really struck by the hypocrisy of the people on this
list. You seem to forget that when she first, rather gracefully, came
onto the list looking for guidance about her new business, you guys
attacked her like a pack of wild dogs. You showed her absolutely no
mercy. Every single person that is now so smug, was horrible to this
poor women - who couldn't even type, at that time, I believe - her
daughter did all the typing for her. The business was a way for her
to keep active, though she couldn't get out of bed.
How can you all be so smug and self-satisfied, and present yourselves
as so innocent, after the way you all treated this poor woman?
Selective memory. But there are those of us who know her and loved
her, and will never forget the many vicious remarks you guys laid on
her. So don't pretend to be the wounded parties in this exchange.
Try to take at least a little responsibility for this mess.
BTW, she also paid quite a lot of money to a detective to locate and
close down the troll. And then you guys accused HER of being the
troll. This is profound injustice. And then you accused her of being
mentally ill, and all kinds of things. This place is like a zoo, with
very little evidence of rationality, kindess, decency, justice,
graciousness. Just loud, self-serving, self-righteous, and
self-important.
Connie was vindictive towards anyone who questioned anything about anything
she said. She displayed a pattern of behavior like this for all the time
she was on this forum. She would ask a question, someone would present a
viewpoint different from hers, and she would attack that person for
attacking her. Rarely if ever was the "provoking" post an attack - it was
simply an intelligent human being presenting a different opinion.
Connie was the hypocrite, not the other way around. I remember once shortly
before her death that she said here, "I will never post another message on a
Usenet newsgroup" and three days later she posted again with another
question. That's bizarre behavior.

I don't see any of that behavior in this thread.

Why did she do this? Who here was he hurting? I don't recall ANYONE here
asking her or anyone else here to do this. Hey - if nothing else he
provided comic relief. I personally think there are mental issues with
someone who would go to the trouble of tracking down someone who gets their
kicks from the behaviour the troll displayed. We all ignored him, and he
would go away for awhile then come back. We ignored him again, and he went
away again.

Especially when that person is using anonamous service providors, and has

Looking for guidance? More like looking for a fight. Every time she
presented an idea and asked for feedback, she got pissed off when someone
pointed out the flaws. Every time she asked for advice, she got pissed
off and told the people who responded to her that she knew better.

Although I didn't know Connie personally, I did have a couple of
interactions with her. She helped me out with some bowing technique
problems, which I truly appreciated. But one time, when I gave my point of
view, which differed completely from hers, she tore me apart. She seemed to
have a hard time accepting the fact that we are all intelligent beings in

Personally, I think this is one of the more civil newsgroups. People here
are polite and considerate of other's opinions. I've gleaned a lot of useful

I'm sorry, but I think you chose the wrong person to address that remark
to. As your unselective memory will remind you, I was not active in
this forum during the time of heated discussions in question and I have
never exchanged angry words with Connie in either direction.
John
I had only one exchange with Connie. I suggested that she tone down her
replys a bit, and she e-mailed a truly nasty message to me telling me that I
was attacking her and women in general or some such thing. I then sent her a
polite response and got back an even worse reply. Her reply's to me were not
on the NG and I think if they were there would be no doubt about who had
attacked who and on what provocation.
After reading your post and reading the message that Tien got in response to
the e-mail he sent to Connie's daughter I have to wonder how much of what
was posted on the NG and privately was Connie and how much was her daughter.
After that first exchange I did not respond to any posts of her's on this NG
for quite a while and when I did, I did so only on safe subjects.
I think you will find other people with similar stories, and I don't think I
have ever had a bad exchange with anyone on this NG. Most of us don't know
each other except via this NG and I don't think there was any concerted
action on anyone's part. If Connie was not liked it was in response to her
posts, both public and private. It is really sad to think that some of the
words we read with her name on them might have been expressed differently
had she been able to type herself.
I am saddened as much by the idea that we seem never to have been in a
postition to get to know her as I am by her being gone.

My husband Steve and I have been harassed and the recipient of a
variety of vile and vicious emails over time by the dear departed CS.
I've never been anything but cordial and polite to this lady and to no
avail. In all my life I have never, ever been treated by any human
being in such a vile manner.... and I don't even know her by any
stretch of the imagination. My experience with her has been through
vicious behavior simply out of the blue and only because she had a
quarrel with Steve.
I felt that anyone with that amount of anger, hate and viciousness
towards others....and in her condition.... would surely cause herself
terrible health problems. The person she was hurting most was simply
herself with the sour energy behind those foul words.
It's been my experience that individuals of foul mouth and worse
temper, bent on "shouting louder" are lacking in intellect. I never
saw evidence that this person was "clever" in any shape or form. Sad
to see that she thinks she can disguise herself in order to continue
her ways. Not too clever.
I have a sad sympathy for this person. What drives a person to lash
out at others in this relm where no faces are seen, no voices heard,
no accountability other than typewritten thoughts?? I have my doubts
as to who this person really is. Did anyone ever meet CS? How was
anyone to know it was indeed "her"? The majority of people who curse
to her level are men, not women. I question her entire existence.
Could it be that everyone was (and is) being taken for a ride?
This EM can't hide her (or his) style and is a fool to think
otherwise. No one here or in CS's pistol range is as ignorant as this
CS and EM would like to think. Isn't it human nature to believe that
others are on your same intellect level, subconsiously? Sorry to say
she or he is looking up, not down. Why play in to this petty foul
word game of his or hers? It seems to be a genuine waste of time on
everyone's part; and for what? To be victim to the EM or CS foul
language and cutting remarks? Does anyone need this? What does it
say about us to feed this petty creature? There is no winning, no
meeting of minds, no resolve, no common ground. It's all about
him/her and that's it. Nothing more. Why bother.... we all have much
more meaningful lives to live than to play in it's games.
I know I've never contributed here and probably won't find cause to
ever again; I just happen to share this "odd" experience with the rest
of you and wanted to contribute my thoughts.

Yes, I remember. But the best way to encourage a troll is to respond and go
after him.
Unfortunately, Connie exacerbated the problem by giving him the attention he
craved.
Tien, waiting for the count-down with family and glancing at the
computer.... :))
She apparently existed (or still does). A google search brings up a number
of articles written by her. She had a very comprehensive website (actually,
two for awhile).
She was a member of Suzuki Chat and caused huge problems there, on a
moderated group. She may have been asked to leave, but I don't know for
sure.
I have truly been concerned about her, because her behavior was so bizarre.
She would claim not to know anything about Suzuki, but then I know she
taught the method!
The name "Menuhin" is a red flag, for me (or am I mixing metaphors here? I
mean it raises doubt).
I asked about her (gulp) because I was afraid she might do herself harm in
her frame of mind, and with the troll picking on her. My friend's son OD'd
and posted on a chat group, and they alerted the police and saved him. I
was a little disturbed by her sudden vanishing act.
I'm not sure that there is a daughter or an illness (physical, anyway). The
first I heard about any illness was when she started whining about it as an
excuse for her behavior. I never heard about it on Suzuki Chat.
The SAA has an obit column, and when I suggested to Susan that she send in
her mother's obituary, she cursed me upside & down.
Oh, well, I've got better things to do than to wonder about her anymore!

Hi Cathy,

Who knows a person better than herself, except perhaps her mother? Since
the troll used AOL (probably free 30 day trials, which would explain the
frequent name changes), there's not much you can deduce about him/her,
except that the posting server s/he used seems to service parts of the
southwest.
This fact puts some doubt on Connie's claim that the troll was a woman in
Florida.
The fact that the troll posted long before any person using any given
appellation proves nothing.
True, but Elle, Connie and the daughter all exhibit a similar personality
and the troll was quite different and occasionally did show flashes of
personality other than his low grade humor that the other three never seem
to use, prefering more direct attacks.

I sure hope there is substance to all these speculations by yourself and
others. Many of the things that have been said could be very hurtful if
there has been a even a modest misinterpretation of the facts.
In the twenty-two years since I first joined an on-line forum, seventeen
on forum staffs (mostly on CompuServe) I have observed this. That the
best way to reply to any kind of nastiness in a message/posting/article
is to edit out the negative, confrontational, inflammatory, emotional
content and reply to what is left (if there is anything!) as if that is
all there is. So a comment like "Only a brain dead f-weasel would play
The Flight of the Bumble Bee in first position" would be answered with
list of reasons for doing so in a strictly academic manner with no
character analysis of the recipient. Nastiness begets nastiness and
there is no good ending to it. People who write "attack articles"
generally believe they are justified in doing so and a reply in kind
only provides further justification to continue attacking. I have seen
some excellent forums destroyed in this way.
BTW for real action, you should see a forum frequented by psychiatrists.
Rather than exchange opinions accompanied by supporting evidence, they
start to diagnose each other's reasons for holding contrary opinions and
treating their detractors as if they are unable to see sense because of
their mental condition. I'm sure they don't all do that, but it seems
to be common among the small number who hang out in on-line forums.

What sort of personality? I believe there could be two trolls. The
original, and a copycat. About 96% of the troll posts are one or two
lines, mostly streams of potty-mouth. A few of the posts are somewhat
lucid (mostly attacks on Connie). Same person? Could be. Hard to tell.
OK then. Consider the alternative. The troll is a random individual,
plaguing usenet (not just r.m.m.b-s, but numerous other locations as
well). Right then, one day Connie joins, and she happens to be the enemy
of the troll.
Well, it could be that way.
If Connie is not the troll, then why mislead us about the location of the
troll (unless I am mistaken, cache-dh06.proxy.aol.com is *never* Florida,
which is where Connie said the PI told her the troll was from)?

I have extensive records on the troll. He (She) used phony MSN return
addresses and posted everything to this group using Google. He also
had a thing about the "Brady Bunch" on whose newsgroups he posted far
more harassing stuff than he ever did here. Interestingly enough

But the headers include a line like this:
NNTP-Posting-Host: 205.188.208.170
Which traces back to AOL, and seems to be somewhere in the
southwest/midwest. People posting through that server claim to live in
Texas, Indiana, et al. I saw the posts in the Brady Bunch groups, too. And
the Y2k groups. And NYPD Blue.
I didn't pick up the Stanford connection. That is very interesting.
Very strange.
If this thread is true, then I am very very sorry, but I'm afraid I do
not believe it is. The only thing that has died here, is the online
personality of "Connie Sunday".
I have had "experience" with Connie on several occasions, having been
banned from the Pro Violin list due to my "public personal insult"
towards her (I asked her to allow freedom of speech, or freedom to
stay anonymous on her forum, which she didn't like, calling my post a
personal attack on her) lol, from me, and then since warning her on my
www.fiddleforum.com for public agression towards a number of my
members, and subsequently banning her for her personal insults towards
me, with a barrage of four letter words. After I asked her, privately,
to calm down a little.
Her explanation to these insults, was an impersonation of her
character, by another person, using her log in name and password, her
email address and password, but more importantly, her IP address!!!! -
which of course, is impossible unless done from her home, using her
isp. I won't ban people lightly, and made detailed checks into the
integrity of her claims before hand.
Sure, the internet makes it easy to say things that one would not say
face to face, however, backed up with the online evidence I have
archived, I would unfortunately, and sadly (I don't like doing this
sort of thing) back up anyone's claims to Connie's bad character. She
even (wrongly) sited my name with a Yahoo complaint made against her,
which Yahoo, with my information, ingored any dispute with me, and
closed down her yahoo account.
So, moving on from this, having read the posts on maestronet and
here... I question whether Connie and Elle are different people,
having shown the same online posting character...
Isn't it rather strange that the avatar (graphic photo) of the
Maestronet account of SunMusicStrings (Elle) is hosted on Connies
webspace. In fact, if you right click on the avatar picture, go to
properties, and copy the url for the graphic into your clipboard, then
stick that into your browser but delete the filename for the graphic,
you are transported to webspace run by Connie Marie Hobbs-Sunday, but
using the directory name of SunMusicStrings. If that doesn't make
sense, the url for the SunMusicStrings avatar (the flowers picture) is
http://www.angelfire.com/music5/sunmusicstrings/, which is clearly
shown to be webspace owned by Connie, and the graphic file is
http://www.angelfire.com/music5/sunmusicstrings/yuji_paeonies.jpg...
So, Sunmusicstrings' maestronet avatar, in a directory owned
apparently by Sunmusicstrings, but visually owned by Connie
Sunday...how is that possible?
It is just as strange that the person using the username or aka
SunMusicStrings, or Elle Mathews, on this forum, on usenet, and on
yahoo groups, made an online appearance at around the same time as
Connies apparent illness and subsiquent death... (12/21/03) check her
profile here, but knew all of the background about Connie and her
"online problems" - as shown on here.... why is that?
I'm sorry, but with the experience of Connie that I have, I do find
this rather strange.
By the way, Susan's surname isn't really Menhuin is it? ;P
By the way (2), she's certainly not??? living out in New Mexico,
allbeit in an even more disturbed nature! *cough*
Once you've worked out your answer Elle/Connie/Susan, please don't
swear when you reply!
Mark
I guess what we do is just let Elle/Connie/Susan/ post. She has a lot of
good info to share, and as long as she can keep control of her emotions, I,
for one, will glean what I can from her musical knowledge. If she starts
getting obnoxious, it's kill-file time.
