With Traeger's new Bible, Optimizing the String Bass
he says an end pin has more to do with the sound than a sound post.
He recommends wooden end pins. The problem is, thin ones break.
Osage Orange is an exotic wood that is incredibly flexible and was
used as archery bows by the Plains Indians.
I also have a well made hickory bow.
Finally a low mass, beautiful flaming maple tailpiece.

I have them all on my bass and it really opened up the sound,
clarified the pizz and added more highs to give that Italian sound to
my bass.

In one I have a video comparing the sound of the same bass with
various end pins. I have the sister maple low mass tailpiece on my
bass.
The tailpiece is also a work of art.

Now he made extras which I'm selling for the luthier. They are listed
under here or just search on ebay for lowhertz
