=20
-How did the band start? =20
=20
Skinny Puppy began when cEvin and Ogre met up and discovered that they =
=20
had similar tastes for the extreme. cEvin, extremely frustrated with playin=
g =20
in a pop band (see Images In Vogue question below), had the urge to =20
create something that was raw and real. Having learned a great deal about =
=20
the technical aspects of electronic music from his time in Images In Vogue,=
=20
cEvin felt he knew enough to be able to do it on his own, and started =20
experimenting along with Ogre. Ogre, who was at the time interested in =
=20
playing music, began adding lyrics to cEvin's music due to his writing =
=20
experience. They begin writing songs as a reaction to everything they hated=
=20
about pop music. Manipulating and mutilating sound that was already in =
=20
existence, Puppy began creating "audio sculpture". They quickly =20
completed their first demo/tape/album called Back and Forth and =20
distributed it around Vancouver. A friend of cEvin's was starting up a =
=20
record label called Nettwerk. Skinny Puppy signed to Nettwerk and =20
released their first album (well, technically an EP) called Remission in =
=20
1984. The rest is history. =20
=20
-Where did they get the name Skinny Puppy? =20
=20
While the name can be interpreted a number of different ways and has =20
many different levels of meaning, the basic idea is that of an abused, =
=20
neglected animal who doesn't speak much but when he does it is a pain =20
filled yelp. Early on, the concept for the band was to look at the whole =
=20
world through the eyes of a dog. This resulted in Ogre's lyrics for K-9 =
=20
which became the first Puppy song. An interesting story (which may or =20
may not be true...) is that cEvin had the demo tape of the song with him at=
=20
an all night party. He eventually passed out and when he awoke, found the =
=20
words "Skinny Puppy" written on the tape. =20
=20
-What were their influences? =20
=20
There were many bands that were influential to Skinny Puppy. One of the =
=20
major, early influences was Throbbing Gristle, the band that began the=20
Industrial Records label in the late '70s. Another heavy influence was the=
=20
pioneering German synth band Kraftwerk. cEvin said once that when he got=20
his first Kraftwerk album, he got rid of the rest of his record collection =
and=20
started over. Some have said that early Skinny Puppy was a melding of=20
these two ends of the musical spectrum. Other influential bands include =
=20
SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, Nocturnal Emissions, Portion Control, and the =20
Legendary Pink Dots. It has also been suggested that Ogre's taste for live =
=20
performance art is a result of him being a fan of Alice Cooper as a kid. =
=20
=20
-Where is <dialogue sample here> from? =20
=20
Many spoken samples and sounds were taken from movies. A definitive list =
=20
of the sources for each song's samples can be found at the Skinny Puppy =
=20
Sample Source Archive (http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/jdeell/puppy.htm). =20
Another place to find info on samples by Skinny Puppy and any other band =
=20
(including projects like Doubting Thomas) is the Top Sample List =20
(http://phobos.astro.uwo.ca/%7Eetittley/top_samples/samples.html). Btw =
=20
Puppy is ranked as the highest sample using group by this list, and that's =
=20
not even counting Doubting Thomas, Cyberaktif, etc. =20
=20
-<Insert Album A> sounds nothing like <Insert Album B>, wtf? =20
=20
Skinny Puppy were not a band to repeat themselves. Rather than stagnating =
=20
their sound constantly changed, grew, and morphed. No one album can =20
give a complete indication of what they sounded like. Everyone has their =
=20
favorite, so get 'em all and decide for yourself. =20
=20
-How many people listen to Skinny Puppy? =20
=20
At the time of their breakup Skinny Puppy had sold over 1,000,000 records,=
=20
which works out to an average of one record sold about every 6 - 7 minutes=
=20
over the course of their 13 year existance. And that doesn't even include=
=20
singles, side projects, and sales after the breakup. And yes, I do have too=
=20
much free time. =20

-Who were Skinny Puppy? =20
=20
Skinny Puppy started out as cEvin Key (Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre =20
(Kevin Ogilvie). cEvin created most of the music and Ogre did the lyrics =
=20
and vocals. Early on Ogre contributed, however minimally, to the music, =
=20
playing some synths, some percussion, and handling his own vocal =20
treatments. When recording their first album, Remission, they hooked up =
=20
with producer Dave Ogilvie, who would remain a major contributor to the =
=20
band through most of their existence. When they started playing live, they =
=20
needed another keyboardist and brought in their friend Wilhelm Schroder. =
=20
Wilhelm didn't know very much about music, but really wanted to play so =
=20
Key showed him the ropes. Wilhelm played bass synth on some early tracks =
=20
and on the Bites tour (plus moaning on Stairs and Flowers). He was never =
=20
listed as an actual member on any of the releases, however. For a variety o=
f =20
reasons, he quit the band halfway through the recording of the third album,=
=20
Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse, and went on to start Front Line =20
Assembly as Bill Leeb. To fill the void, cEvin brought in Dwayne R. =20
Goettel (see question below), a classically trained and technically skilled=
=20
keyboardist. The two instantly clicked and Dwayne became a vital member =
=20
of the band. This lineup lasted for the rest of the bands history. When =
=20
Skinny Puppy broke up on June 12, 1995, Ogre went his way and cEvin =20
and Dwayne went theirs. Tragically, Dwayne died of a heroin overdose on =
=20
August 23, 1995. His legacy, as that of Skinny Puppy, forever lives on. =
=20
=20
-What is cEvin Key doing now? Where can I reach him? =20
=20
His main project is Download at the moment and he is working on some =20
other side projects, including The Tear Garden, Plateau, and Doubting =20
Thomas (of which cEvin has said has some new material will be released =
=20
eventually). A new Download album is supposedly due in the fall =20
without the aid of Mark Spybey, who split from the band in April. cEvin =
=20
Key has an email address (ck...@cyberstore.ca and/or ck...@vkool.com). =20
He seems to respond on a fairly regular basis and is very good natured =
=20
about answering fans' questions. =20
=20
-How the hell do you pronounce cEvin's name? =20
=20
Nowadays at least, he pronounces it just like "Kevin". =20
=20
-How did cEvin get the nickname Kenny King? =20
=20
Someone was calling cEvin to the phone, and mispronounced his name as =20
Kenny King. And so, a new nickname was born. This is said to have =20
happened on the same day as the Cincinnati arrest incident, but that seems =
=20
to conflict with the name King appearing on the earlier Lee Chubby King =
=20
project (see below). =20
=09 =20
-What is Ogre doing now? Where can I reach him? =20
=20
Supposedly he's been working on a project by the name of W.E.L.T with =
=20
Mark Walk for, oh, I'd say about nigh over 3 years now, and supposedly =
=20
they finished 14 tracks a LONG time ago. Apparently the deal Ogre had =20
with American Records got muddled and the album was put into limbo =20
when American Records was absorbed by Warner Bros. The delay was =20
furthered by Ogre's reluctance to release the album while certain other =
=20
"artists" who he feels are "exploiting" his past work are in the public eye=
=20
right now. He's waiting it out till he feels its a better time to release t=
he =20
album. In the meantime he is working on a completely new project with =20
Martin Atkins called Ritalin. They are working on Ritalin over the summer =
=20
so hopefully there will be some new Ogre stuff soon! He has taken part in=
=20
the new KMFDM album and was to appear on the new Pigface album but,=20
in fact, does not appear on the album. He does have an email supposedly=20
(pu...@netcom.com) but either he's not answering any casual questions=20
from fans anymore or he's moved because I have never gotten anything in=20
reply to the questions I have asked him in the past. You can try. =20
=20
- What was Dwayne up to before Puppy? How did he get involved in the=20
band? =20
=20
Dwayne, who grew up in Edmonton, was in a band by the name of Psyche. =20
Although Psyche recorded, it was only after Dwayne left the band. Dwayne =
=20
was also in two other bands. One band called Voice did record an EP for a =
=20
local indie label. Another called Water, which featured a female vocalist, =
=20
never recorded but had opened for Puppy on the Bites tour. As the story =
=20
goes, Wilhelm Schroder (later Bill Leeb) did not want to go on another tour=
=20
with the band and Dwayne, having opened for Pup, fit the bill and was free.=
=20
cEvin and Dwayne quickly found that they worked well together and began =
=20
jamming. This resulted on their first song, Antagonism. Dwayne was a =20
member of Skinny Puppy until their breakup June 12, 1995. =20
=20
-Are Dave "the Rave" Ogilvie and Kevin "Nivek Ogre" Ogilvie related or=20
the same person? =20
=20
Absolutely not, it's all just a coincidence as far as the same last names g=
o. =20
Certain incorrect information has be printed in the past, but aside from a=
=20
close relationship, they are not related in any way. =20
=20
-OK, two Ogilvies I can buy...but three? Who is this Rosie "Mowse"=20
Ogilvie? =20
=20
Rosie Ogilvie is Dave Ogilvie's wife. She does backing vocals on Tear Or =
=20
Beat as Mowse and performed with Ogre and Rave at some animal rights =20
benefit shows. =20
=20
-Who is the Green Guy? =20
=20
Some say the green guy is the person who provided the pot during the =20
recording process, others say it's a person who played bass on some tracks,=
=20
still others say it was cEvin under the influence, and yet others say it's =
a=20
name for Marijuana altogether. =20

=3DBack And Forth (series 1 and 2)=3D =20
=20
-What is Back and Forth series 1 and where can I get it? =20
=20
Back and Forth series 1 was their first, self produced tape released in ear=
ly =20
'84. Intended to be a run of 50 copies, cEvin got tired of dubbing them and=
=20
only ended up making 35. Years later, some copies numbered 36-50 turned =
=20
up, and it has been suggested that Bill Leeb made them and sold them to =
=20
some fans for quite a bit of money, but he denies it. cEvin says that as fa=
r =20
as he knows there were only 35. In addition, copies 1-15 were individually =
=20
hand dubbed, while 16-35 were high-speed dubbed, resulting in lower =20
quality. All of these track appear in a remastered form on Back and Forth =
=20
series 2. If you're an anal completist who still wants to hear the tracks i=
n =20
the (in a few cases) slightly different original versions, bootleg copies o=
f =20
this release can be found. =20
=20
-What's that thing at the beginning of Smothered Hope (demo) on Back and =
=20
Forth series 2? =20
=20
This appears to be a live improvisation, performed right before Smothered =
=20
Hope. When the drums from Smothered Hope begin to come in, the track =20
switches to an early demo for Smothered Hope, as the title suggests. =20
=20
=3DRemission=3D =20
=20
-Where is that picture of a man looking around a corner inside the=20
Remission / Back and Forth series 2 booklet from? =20
=20
This is taken from a 1950 painting called "The Subway" by George Tooker. =
=20
=20
=3DBites=3D =20
=20
-Who is that singing on the Centre Bullet? =20
=20
The vocals on this track are actually done by cEvin. Later on, cEvin redid =
=20
this song under the Tear Garden name with Edward Ka-Spel adding vocals. =
=20
Its kind of interesting, though, that cEvin's vocs on the original version =
=20
sound quite a bit similar to Edward's voice. =20
=20
-What is this extra track 17 on the Bites CD? =20
=20
This track is called One Day and was previously unreleased. The title =
=20
might be a reference to the original name of Puppy friends the Legendary =
=20
Pink Dots. =20
=20
-What's with all the different versions of Bites? =20
=20
While there were many different releases of Bites with different tracks on =
=20
them, the currently available '93 CD release includes every track ever =
=20
released on any version of Bites except Cage, which you can get on the =
=20
Chainsaw EP. =20
=20
-Why are some of the same tracks that are on Remission on Bites as well? =
=20
=20
While it is not clear from the tracklist (or discography), the duplicated =
=20
tracks are different versions of the songs. The versions of Film and =20
Icebreaker on Remission are different than the ones on Bites. It should be =
=20
noted that if you have one of the Remission and Bites or Bites and =20
Remission compilation discs you will be missing out on a lot of material. I=
f =20
you want the complete picture, the way to get Remission and Bites are as =
=20
two separate CDs. =20
=20
-What was the tour like for this album? =20
=20
The Bites tour of North America and Europe had the lineup of Ogre, cEvin,=
=20
and Wilhelm Schroeder. The set involved giant medieval-looking platforms=20
that cEvin and Wilhelm stood on and played from. Skulls and televisions on=
=20
pedestals littered the stage. Ogre occaisionally turned to a metallic rhyth=
m=20
setup, which looked much like a swing set, playing and banging on a variety=
=20
of objects including cymbals, springs, and windchimes. A life size (and=20
Ogre-esque) stuffed doll hung in effigy from the percussion set. Ogre, =20
manipulating his own vocals live onstage, performed a variety of frightenin=
g=20
acts which included holding up a mirror to himself and the audience,=20
slashing his own throat, and, in the finale, smashing a skull against his h=
ead,=20
shattering it to pieces. A good example of what the tour looked like can be=
=20
seen in the Smothered Hope and Far Too Frail videos as well as in the insid=
e=20
of the Back and Forth series 2 insert. =20

-Alright...let me guess...the version of Love on Mind:TPI is different than=
=20
the one on Bites? =20
=20
Yep. Good call:) =20
=20
-OK, why are Addiction and Deep Down Trauma Hounds on here? Weren't=20
those originally released on Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate? And where is=20
Stairs and Flowers (Dub) from? =20
=20
The original vinyl/cassette release on Mind:TPI came out in '86. The last=
=20
song on the album was Burnt With Water. The CD version was released in=20
'88, which was after Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate (and it's companion=20
Addiction single) were released. As bonus tracks on the CD version of=20
Mind:TPI, tracks from the Addiction single were added, even though they=20
were from a later era. These two tracks are actually Addiction (second=20
dose) and Deep Down Trauma Hounds (remix), not the original versions of=20
the songs as the tracklist suggests. Further bonus tracks were taken from t=
he=20
Chainsaw EP. These two tracks were Chainsaw and Stares and Flowers =20
(Too Far Gone), the latter retitled Stairs and Flowers (Dub). =20
=20
-Why is Dig It on the CD album the same as the remix on the Dig It single? =
=20
=20
For some reason, the original album version of Dig It was replaced with the=
=20
12" remix for the CD release of Mind:TPI. The version on the 12"=20
Anthology is also the 12" remix. The original album version has never been=
=20
released on CD. =20
=20
-What is the difference between the Chainsaw EP/single and the Stairs and=
=20
Flowers EP/single? =20
=20
Stairs and Flowers was a slightly different version of Chainsaw made for th=
e=20
US market. The track Cage was dropped for Stairs and Flowers but the=20
cover art was exactly the same (except the title). Stairs and Flowers was=
=20
available as a 12" only and is out of print, but the Chainsaw EP is still=
=20
available on CD. =20
=20
=3DCleanse, Fold, And Manipulate=3D =20
=20
-Who is that singing on Addiction? =20
=20
The low voice in Addiction is, in fact, Ogre. His voice is heavily pitched=
=20
down resulting in quite a few people thinking it was a guest vocalist. It i=
s=20
rumored that Ogre was taking a stab at Bill Leeb's vocal style with this=20
track. =20
=20
-I heard of a song called Kill To Cure, what is it and why wasn't it releas=
ed? =20
=20
This was a song recorded around 87-88. It was never released but a bootleg =
=20
recording of a demo exists, and they performed it live during the early '88=
=20
European tour. The vocals for the demo version sound like a very early =
=20
scratch demo cut, and they were changed quite a bit for the live version. =
Its =20
not known exactly why this track wasn't released (any info on this would be=
=20
great). A live version of this track can be downloaded from the Skinny=20
Puppy Unleashed web site at (http://www.brap.dk) =20
=20
-What was the tour like for this album? =20
=20
The first leg of the tour is documented in the Ain't It Dead Yet? live vide=
o.=20
The second leg of the tour was a small tour of Europe done in early '88=20
(before VIVIsectVI) called Head Trauma. This tour is often confused with=20
the VIVIsectVI tour since the stage show was quite similar. The=20
performance involved Ogre as a laboratory scientist experimenting on =20
on a very lifelike stuffed dog (named CHUD after the horror movies). He=20
performed a mock vivisection of CHUD onstage in order to show the=20
audience the horrors of vivisection. As the show progressed Ogre began=20
experimenting on himself, having his assistant, who was dressed like an=20
executioner, hand him syringes which he used upon himself. He even took a=
=20
shard of broken glass and sliced up his own stomach, much like he had=20
CHUD's. In the end, his assistant took control and strapped him into a gian=
t=20
medieval-like chair. Struggling like a restrained animal, Ogre was hung=20
upside down as the chair was flipped, simulating the kind of "sudden head=
=20
trauma" experiments which were being performed on defenseless animals. =20
A press release for this tour appears on the Brap CD-ROM. =20

-Why is the album called VIVIsectVI? What's the VI for? =20
=20
This is a sort of wordplay to show the evil of vivisection. Switch the last=
VI =20
to the front and you get VIVIVIsect or 666 sect. =20
=20
-I heard they got arrested in '88, why? =20
=20
A person in the audience during the VIVIsectVI tour mistakenly thought =
=20
the stuffed dog Chud, which Ogre ripped apart on stage in order to show =
=20
the horrors of vivisection, was a real animal and called the police. After =
=20
showing up backstage and finding that Chud indeed was not real, they =20
basically tried to find a reason to be there and after some harsh words wer=
e =20
exchanged Ogre and cEvin among others spent the night in jail under =20
disorderly conduct charges. Dwayne, who was actually rolling a joint as =
=20
the cops came in, managed to escape due to his unique power of =20
invisibility. =20
=20
-I heard about Chud getting stolen, what happened? =20
=20
After the show in Detroit, some girl managed to grab Chud as a souvenir of =
=20
the show and left it in the back of her unlocked car after she got home. Th=
e =20
band followed her around the city. Ogre not only recovered Chud but also =
=20
entered the girl's house and yelled at her parents. =20
=20
=3DRabies=3D =20
=20
-Who is the Cyan credited with lyrics and vocals for Rain? =20
=20
Cyan was supposedly Ogre's girlfriend at the time. =20
=20
-What exactly is this track Spahn Dirge? Where have I heard those lyrics=20
before? =20
=20
Spahn Dirge is a live in-studio jam including everyone from the band. It =
=20
probably involved guests including Al Jourgensen. It appears as a B-side on=
=20
the Tin Omen single and as a bonus track on the CD version of Rabies. =20
Some of the lyrics are borrowed (and subsequently warped) from Revolting =
=20
Cock's Attack Ships On Fire and Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks. =20
=20
-I heard Rabies got remastered. How can I tell if I have the original or=20
remastered version? What's the difference? =20
=20
The original master had been put through a Dolby noise reduction that =20
cEvin loathed, so he went back and remastered it for CD in '93. If you =
=20
have it on vinyl or cassette, you've got the original master version. =20
Otherwise, read on. =20
=20
Here's the info straight from Nettwerk: =20
=20
Skinny Puppy Rabies Remastered Quasi-FAQ =20
=20
Here's the long story about Rabies and the "first master" vs. "re-mastered"=
=20
explanation: =20
=20
- Rabies was first released in 1989 on LP and Cassette. This was at a time =
=20
when you still had to wait a few weeks for the CD to be done. The LP and =
=20
the Cassette at the time had a specific type of master that was still in =
=20
use for vinyl and cassette manufacture (as opposed to CD's.) =20
=20
- When the CD first came out, it featured the same mastering as the =20
original LP and Cassette. This was only for the first two pressings. =20
=20
- When those original copies ran out in Canada (at the time that's the only=
=20
place it was available) we put out a "remastered" pressing specifically for=
=20
CD. The CD has always had this master ever since. The remastered version =
=20
came out in early 1993. If you bought it anytime after that *IN CANADA*=20
you will have =20
this version of the CD. =20
=20
- If you have any doubt in your mind whatsoever, you should be ordering it =
=20
from our mail order dept. =20
=20
On a technical note: "Re-mastering" or just plain "mastering" is the art of=
=20
clarifying and raising the overall volume of all of the mixes on an album =
=20
(no matter what format) to a certain level so that it is the same volume =
=20
(or a more uniform volume anyway) for the whole disc. In the case of =20
"Rabies", you might also notice on the remastered version that the bass is =
=20
much "smoother" and "heavier". Very delicate art that one. :) =20
=20
To be completely honest, the "un-remastered" version of "Rabies" is now =
=20
much harder to find than the remastered version. =20
I know what you're saying after reading that: "I'd like to get a copy of =
=20
this if it actually is different. How do I go about ordering it direct?" =

=20
-When was Ain't It Dead Yet? recorded? =20
=20
June 1, 1987 on the Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate tour. =20
=20
-My copy of Ain't It Dead Yet? is all on one track, why? =20
=20
The CD versions of this album were pressed as one track in order to =20
preserve the live experience of the show as a whole. Apparently, though, a =
=20
new version has just been released with each song on a different track. =
=20
(more to come) =20
=20
-My copy of Ain't It Dead Yet? says it includes God's Gift (Maggot), but it=
=20
doesn't...wtf? =20
=20
Someone apparently screwed up and confused One Time One Place with =20
God's Gift (Maggot). All versions of the album and video have One Time =
=20
One Place as the actual song present. A new version of the album has =20
appeared (see above question) with this error corrected. (More to come...) =

=3DToo Dark Park=3D =20
=20
-Hey, my Too Dark Park insert is different from my friend's. What's going=
=20
on? =20
=20
The original release of the TDP CD included a fold-out, color lyric sheet =
=20
with the entire cover painting intact in the background. Later on this was =
=20
switched to a stapled booklet, with the painting in black and white and =
=20
chopped up among the pages. The change may have been made to make =20
the lyrics easier to read. =20
=20
-Hey, my Spasmolytic is missing a song that my friend's copy has. What's=20
going on? =20
=20
Choralone (Live in Houston) was a bonus track on some CD and cassette=20
copies of the Spasmolytic single/EP. Some list it on the cover and have it,=
=20
some don't list it and have it, and some don't have it period. It is not=20
available on the vinyl version of the release. More info to come/requested =
on=20
this. =20
=20
=3DLast Rights=3D =20
=20
-Track 10 on Last Rights is missing...wtf? =20
=20
The track that was track 10, entitled Left Hand Shake was scrapped from=20
the album at the last minute due to the Timothy Leary samples throughout=20
the song having not having been cleared. Even though Leary himself=20
approved of the use of the samples, he found out later that he did not in f=
act=20
own the rights to them and the owner denied SP usage of the samples.. The=20
song was pulled from the album. Interestingly (and frustratingly), some of =
=20
the same samples appear in the track Fistfuck on Nine Inch Nail's Fixed EP.=
=20
=20
-Where can I get this Left Hand Shake? =20
=20
The track can be found, in a variety of forms, as a bootleg. One version of=
=20
the song can be found on the original European version of Brap, put out by =
=20
the Off Beat Label. Offbeat went ahead and released it even though they =
=20
didn't legally have the right to do so. It also appears on the CD bootleg =
=20
Intolerance (this is not an endorsement btw...). Puppy supposedly planned =
=20
to release it as a 7" given out at shows but this never happened. You can =
=20
download a copy of this song and hear Last Rights the way it was meant to =
=20
be heard from the Skinny Puppy Unleashed web site (http://www.brap.dk). =
=20
=20
-What's this story of Ogre having a convulsion during Knowhere? =20
=20
While Ogre and Rave were recording the vocals for Knowhere?, during a =20
period of Ogre's heavy drug addiction, Ogre took a shot of coke and had a =
=20
seizure. It is rumored that they were still recording as he went into the =
=20
convulsions, and that the recording actually appears on the final album. =
=20
=20
-On my copy of Last Rights the songs start 39 sec before the corresponding =
=20
track comes up. What gives? =20
=20
The original pressing of the Last Rights CD had an error which caused the =
=20
tracks to be shifted 39 seconds after the point the song starts. This resul=
ted=20
in the first 39 seconds of Love In Vein being cut off and 39 seconds of=20
space being added to the end of Download. You can hear the beginning of=20
Love In Vein by rewinding the CD past the 0 second point. This pressing=20
error was quickly replaced and all new copies of Last Rights do not have=20
this problem. Some still claim that the "error" was actually done on purpos=
e =20
so that you had to listen to the album as a whole, much like Ain't It Dead=
=20
Yet?. It is doubtful, however, that they would intentionally cut off the fi=
rst=20
39 seconds of a song. =20
=20
-My copy of Last Rights has all the right songs on the CD, but the on-disc=
=20
art only lists three songs, (Tormentor ext., Bark, and Nature's Revenge=20
Dub). Wtf? =20
=20
This seems to be a common phenomenon with copies of Last Rights ordered =
=20
from Columbia House. The music is correct, but the on-disc art is that of t=
he =20
Tormentor single. Try contacting either Columbia House, Nettwerk, or=20
Capitol about the problem. =20
=20
-What happened to the Love In Vein single? =20
=20
It was scrapped, but some or all of the content planned to be released on i=
t=20
can be found on Brap (vol. 4). The version of Love In Vein on Brap is a=20
(possibly unfinished) remix. =20
=20
-What was the tour for Last Rights like? =20
=20
The Last Rights tour (of which the European leg was canceled due to Ogre's=
=20
knee injury) involved a variety of horrific imagery. cEvin appeared to play=
=20
live percussion throughout the show. The show involved Ogre interacting=20
with a staticy backing film, being tortured by his own guilt, spinning a=20
macabre tree with masks, arms, and other monsterous things hanging from it=
=20
constantly over his head, occasionally pulling objects off and wearing mask=
s=20
for certain songs. The tree was originally called "The Tree Of No Cares"=20
and was concieved as an extension of "The Chair of No Cares" from the=20
TDP show and Spasmolytic video. The tree trunk was made up of hundreds=20
of twisted, moaning faces and was scrawled with words like "Sex", "Greed",=
=20
"Self Disect", "Vermin", and "Survive". The masks (AKA Torture Heads)=20
included a gas mask, a monster with its tongue hanging out, and a=20
screaming human head cut in half just below the eyes. Ogre's makeup=20
revealed his face as a twisted melding of flesh and metal. As the show=20
progressed, Ogre continued to turn to a Videodrome-inspired virtual=20
reality/drug machine through which he entered some other "dimension".=20
When Ogre entered the machine, his face appeared on the backing film,=20
giving us a glimpse into the other world in which he was being tortured as =
=20
well. The machine continued to destroy him, eventually splitting him into=
=20
two personalities, evident by a "second Ogre" growing out of his back. Late=
=20
in the show he held up a cross which began to bleed. Finally he dons a "gui=
lt=20
suit" and becomes his own monster. The "Guiltman" monster suit was=20
complete with stitches, needles, chains, words such as "Forgive Me" carved=
=20
into the flesh, a gaping orifice in the belly with serpentile tongue hangin=
g=20
out, and IV tubes sticking out of him. The show was capped with an encore=
=20
featuring a song called Dirty Tricks (either an unreleased song or a common=
=20
thread in their improv) and Testure. This time around Ogre added some new=
=20
lyrics to the intro to Testure, partially improvised. At at least one show =
they=20
also played Spasmolytic during the encore. =20

-I heard that there was a single for Candle? Where can I get it?
Candle was intended to be a single off this album, but went unreleased,=20
possibly due to American Record=92s disinterest in releasing further Puppy=
=20
material. They did, however, release a promo CD-single for this song. It=20
featured two tracks, Candle and Candle (Edit), the latter being the same as=
=20
the original with the instrumental ending cut off. The song Morphedus,=20
which was intended to be a B-side for this single, was released on the=20
compilation We Came To Dance Vol. X. =20
=3DBrap=3D =20
=20
-What does Brap mean? =20
=20
According to the Brap liner notes Brap is basically the term cEvin and =
=20
co. use for "getting high and recording". Alternatively its the name used =
for =20
their live improvisation and, more generally, the term for their creation o=
f =20
music in general. For this reason Brap is sometimes used to mean the =20
"genre" that all of their music falls under. The track on Remission titled =
=20
Brap is probably either an example of in-studio improv, or the track that =
=20
they took the name from. An improvisation (using Draining Faces as the =
=20
basis) appears on the live album Ain't It Dead Yet? under the name Brap. =
=20
=20
-What exactly are all of these tracks on Brap? Live? Demos? Wtf? =20
=20
Here it goes: =20
=20
Disk 1 (Back and Forth vol. 3) =20
=20
1. (multimedia) =20
2. Jackhammer: demo =20
3. Splasher: demo =20

5. Yo Yo Scrape: demo, with vocals by cEvin! =20
6. Carry: demo =20
7. Guilty: demo =20
8. The Soul That Creates: demo, with vocals taken from My Voice Sounds=20

9. Brap: a live improvisation from Basel, Switzerland at Geigerzahler 1986=
=20
using the track from Remission as the basis. The full show can be found as =
a=20
bootleg and on the bootleg CD Fractal Zoom. =20
10. Sparkless: demo =20
11. Dead Doll: demo of the track from Bites =20
12. Deadlines: demo of the track from Bites =20
13. Last Call: live version of from the 9/26/86 CBC Brave New Waves=20

Disk 2 (Back and Forth vol. 4) =20
=20
1. (multimedia) =20
2. Uranus Canceled: a different version of the track Knowhere? from Last=20

3. All Eyes: a live improvisation from the Too Dark Park tour. Part of this=
=20
track can be found, along with other improv, as part of Walking On Ice=20
from the Spasmolytic single. =20
4. Reclamation: live from Too Dark Park tour =20
5. Spasmolytic: possibly a live in-studio demo take, with vocals added late=
r =20
6. Grave Wisdom: a less finished version of the track. Also appears on the =
=20
Nettwerk Decadence boxed set as Grave Wisdom (alternate version) =20
7. Tin Omen: the first part of this track is live from the (crappy) CD boot=
leg =20
Heaven's Trash. The second part is a pro recorded live version. =20
8. God's Gift: live from Too Dark Park tour =20
9. Convulsion: live from Too Dark Park tour =20
10. Nature's Revenge: possibly an alternate studio version? =20
11. Love In Vein: remix from the planned, but unreleased, single =20
12. T.F.W.O.: live version from Too Dark Park tour =20
13. Choralone: live version from Too Dark Park tour =20
=20
-Why is the tracklist on Brap reversed? =20
=20
It was an attempt by Nettwerk to play on the Back and Forth concept. =20
Backwards and Forwards, get it? For the record, the tracklist for disk 1 =
=20
(vol.3) appears on the right side, while the tracklist for disk 2 (vol.4) =
=20
appears on the left. =20
=20
-What's with all these different versions of Brap? =20
=20
A month or two before Nettwerk released Brap with multimedia content, an =
=20
early version, without multimedia and with a version of Left Hand Shake,=20
was released on Offbeat in Europe. This is commonly referred to as "Euro-
Brap". After Brap was released by Nettwerk domestically, Offbeat re-
released Brap, this time supposedly with a hologram cover, without Left=20
Hand Shake and with the multimedia content. This is commonly referred to=20
as "Digi-Brap". =20
=20
-What's with this hole in the right side of the Brap digipak? Was there =
=20
supposed to be a booklet in there? =20
=20
Nopers. According to Nettwerk that was just a byproduct of the =20
manufacturing process. =20
=20
-I've heard there are secrets on the Brap CD-ROM, where? =20
=20
One secret can be found on disk 1 (vol. 3) in the TDP monster screen which =
=20
you start at. Zoom in as close as possible on the stars above the monster- =
=20
face's head. At the center of one of these stars your icon will change to a=
=20
hand and you can click on it, taking you to a hidden area. The clickable=20
region is very small so it make some trying to find it. =20
=20
Another "secret" can be found on disk 2 (vol. 4). Under certain conditions =
=20
you can click on the window in the room (even though your icon doesn't =
=20
change to a hand...) and discover a small secret. Or maybe its not supposed=
=20
to be secret? =20
=20
-Wait a minute, these dates on the Brap CD-ROM clips don't sound right... =
=20
=20
Some of the dates for the live clips on disc 2 (vol. 4) are surely incorrec=
t. In =20
addition, some of the clips use material from different shows edited =20
together. The '84 K-9 performance is rumored to be footage from the very =
=20
first Puppy show ever. =20

-------------- =20
-Miscellaneous Questions =20
---------------------------------------------------------------------------=
-------------- =20
=20
-I heard Skinny Puppy were in a movie. Is this true? =20
=20
Yep. Ogre, cEvin, and Dwayne appear in a very brief cameo as a gang of =
=20
thugs early in the movie The Doom Generation. It is an extremely quick =
=20
scene and you can barely make out the band, if at all. During the filming o=
f =20
this scene cEvin fell (off a car) and broke his arm among other injuries. =
=20
=20
-I heard there's a song called Ode To Groovy. Where is it? =20
=20
Ode To Groovy was a track released on the first volume of an animal rights=
=20
benefit compilation called In Defense Of Animals. While it is credited to=
=20
Skinny Puppy, it is actually just Ogre and Rave. A text piece by Ogre was=
=20
also included with the comp. =20
=20
-I heard there's some new SP songs on compilations, is that true? =20
=20
Yes, there's a new, previously unreleased track called Morphedus on a=20
double CD compilation called We Came To Dance Vol. X. This track,=20
unlike other recently released new Puppy tracks, features Ogre and was=20
originally intended as a B-side to the unreleased Candle single. =20
=20
Another track, called Haunted, was released on the compilation Industrial=
=20
Revoltution Third Edition. Haunted is an instrumental track from cEvin and=
=20
Dwayne=92s sessions in 1994 and was previously unreleased.
Another new Puppy track, Melt, appears on the Subconscious Compilation=20
called Paradigm Shift. Melt is also instrumental and is intended to be part=
=20
three of the trilogy including Download and Cellar Heat.
-I heard of a bootleg called Intolerance. What's up with it? =20
=20
Intolerance is a CD bootleg which is not, by any means, what it says it is. =
It=20
is not the last Puppy show as it claims. It is from a 6/18/92 Miami show.=
=20
The audio is taken from a more complete video bootleg of that show.=20
Intolerance also has a bunch of extra tracks which, while they claim to be=
=20
unreleased, are stolen from commercially available releases. The only other=
=20
interesting things present are a studio version of Left Hand Shake (which=
=20
was made from a dub...) and some strange Charlie-esque rant before live=20
part of the disc starts. It is supposedly a limited edition of 2000, but it=
is not=20
known if this is true. Some copies included an embossed metal SP logo. I do=
=20
not recommend buying this bootleg which seems tailored to steal from the=20
band. Instead, track down the full 6/18/92 video and buy the commercial=20
releases.=20

-The Videos- =20
---------------------------------------------------------------------------=
------------- =20
=20
-What official Puppy videos exist? =20
=20
In addition to the live video and album called Ain't It Dead Yet?, there ar=
e =20
promotional videos for Smothered Hope, Far Too Frail, Dig it, Stairs and =
=20
Flowers, Testure, Worlock, Spasmolytic, Killing Game, Candle, Curcible, =
=20
and Hardset Head. All of these videos except for Worlock and the Process =
=20
videos (Candle, Curcible, and Hardset Head) appear on the official Video =
=20
Compilation, which also includes Deep Down Trauma Hounds from the =20
Ain't It Dead Yet? video, and some very short audio-less clips from the =
=20
Last Rights tour. Clips of the videos also appear on the Brap CD-ROM. It =
=20
should be noted that two versions of Worlock and Testure exist, an X rated =
=20
and an R rated version. The version of Testure which appears on the =20
Nettwerk Compilation is the R rated version. Also, the version of =20
Spasmolytic which appears on the compilation omits the title screen (which=
=20
was just the cover of the single) and credits which are available on bootle=
g=20
versions. (the credits are available below) =20
=20
-Why isn't Worlock included on the Video Compilation? =20
=20
Here's the info straight from Nettwerk: =20
=20
WHY ISN'T WORLOCK INCLUDED ON THE SKINNY PUPPY VIDEO =20
COMPILATION? =20
=20
The video for "Worlock" was comprised of numerous (over 80 in fact) clips =
=20
that were cut out of horror films by various classification boards. It is =
=20
a non-stop gore-fest that was immediately banned by every video station =
=20
that had ever seen the video, as well as any border crossing guards =20
anywhere in the world. The video is considered pornographic for this =20
reason. =20
=20
That's the first reason it's not included on the video release. =20
=20
The second reason concerns the sheer mountain of legal paperwork that =20
would be required in order to get approval from every single director of =
=20
the over 50 movies that the clips were taken from. There is simply no way =
=20
for anybody to get a clearance to release this video in any form. Even if =
=20
we were able to get legal approval to use all the clips that are contained =
=20
in the video, we would be disallowed from ever shipping a copy anywhere in =
=20
the world due to the content. Complete catch-22. =20
=20
So that is why the video for "Worlock" doesn't appear on the Skinny Puppy =
=20
video compilation. It's been a 4-year battle in the attempt to get that =
=20
video released in some form. It just isn't possible to do. =20
=20
But the rest of the videos which do make an appearance are mostly =20
first-timers as far as anybody seeing them and a lot of the fans who are =
=20
quite familiar with the "Worlock" situation are still pretty happy to see =
=20
these videos being made available to the fans of the band. =20
=20
(thanks to Dead Shot for transcribing this) =20
=20

-I just watched Far Too Frail...wtf? =20
=20
Apparently, after shooting the footage for Smothered Hope, the band=20
decided to do an intentionally bad video for Far Too Frail using the same=
=20
footage. The result is nothing less than hilarious. =20
=20
-What fan made videos exist? =20
=20
There are many videos made by fans, including Addiction, Deadlines (2 =
=20
versions), laHuman8, The Choke, Harsh Stone White (live from=20
Spasmolytic single), (more to come). There are also alternate versions of t=
he=20
Official videos, probably done by fans, including Smothered Hope and Dig=20
It. The Deadlines fan-made video was, for some unknown reason, included=20
along with the official videos on the Brap CD-ROM. (Any info for this=20
section would be greatly appreciated). =20
=20
-What is this Too Dark Park backing video I hear about? =20
=20
The backing film used by the band for the Too Dark Park tour has been=20
leaked out as a video bootleg. The bootleg includes the entire backing film=
=20
with the exception of Rash Reflection, along with the band's audio backing=
=20
tape. The video floating around for Rash Reflection is most probably the=20
backing film used for that song along with the audio of the album version o=
f=20
the song. Many of the films have been set to the album version of the =20
corresponding song to make a "fan video" for the song. =20
=20
-So is there a Last Rights backing video bootleg as well? =20
=20
Yep. Its not as common as the TDP video, though. A good chunk of the =20
footage is from the Killing Game video shoot. Also, the audio on this =20
bootleg is just the entire Last Rights album and the first four songs off o=
f =20
Too Dark Park, not live or backing tape material. =20

=3DSubconscious Communications=3D =20
=20
-What is Subconscious Communications? =20
=20
Subconscious Communications began as a record label initiated by Dwayne =
=20
in order to release his aDuck 12" (then named Subconscious Records.)=20
After the breakup of Skinny Puppy, cEvin and Dwayne revived it as a label=
=20
to encompass all of their new releases. Subconscious Communications is not=
=20
a subdivision or imprint of Nettwerk, Cleopatra, or any other label. It is =
a=20
label which uses those and other record labels for distribution. Subconscio=
us=20
exists as a studio and remix/film score team as well. =20
=20
-What is Paradigm Shift? =20
=20
Paradigm Shift is a compilation of Subconscious Communications' projects =
=20
along with some other related tracks. It includes the tracks Power and=20
Touched from the original and out of print Subconscious 12" released by=20
Dwayne's solo project, aDuck, and Philth. While Philth's track was called=
=20
My Heart Has Been Touched By Christ on the original 12", the music was=20
not changed for this compilation on which it is just called Touched. All of=
=20
the other material on this album is previously unreleased, including tracks=
=20
by Download, Doubting Thomas, The Tear Garden, Dead Voices On Air,=20
Plateau, Skinny Puppy, Kone, and aDuck. =20
=20
=3DDownload=3D =20
=20
-What is Download? =20
=20
Download is a project which grew out of cEvin and Dwayne's jam sessions =
=20
during the recording of The Process. These jam sessions involved friends =
=20
like DJ Philth and Mark Spybey. Download, named after the track on Last =
=20
Rights, is now cEvin's full time project. Two albums, two EPs, and a =20
Soundtrack have been released. The band lineup continues to morph, and =
=20
has included participation from Ken Marshall and Anthony Valcic (both =20
long time Puppy friends and engineers), Genesis P-Orridge, and Ryan =20
Moore (as a guest on the live tour). Mark Spybey left the band in April. =
=20
A new album, simply called III, is expected Oct 21, again with Dave=20
McKean doing the artwork. Two EPs, called Moth and Resilient,=20
should also be released sometime this Fall. A tour should follow. =20
=20
-What is this Charlie's Family soundtrack I've heard about? =20
=20
Charlie's Family is an as of yet unreleased film directed by Puppy friend J=
im =20
VanBebber (who directed the Spasmolytic video). Download released a =20
soundtrack in a limited edition of 2000 to help finance the films release. =
The =20
soundtrack was only available on the bands '96 tour and through Nettwerk=20
mail order. This soundtrack has been re-released by Metropolis, with the=20
music remaining identical but the packaging changing to a digipak with a=20
slightly altered cover. =20
=20
-What is Chunkblower and where can I get the soundtrack? =20
=20
Chunkblower was a film by Jim Vanbebber which was never made. Only a =20
trailer (which can be seen, in part, on the Brap CD-ROM) was produced. =
=20
The project was scrapped when the horror movie market fell apart. cEvin=20
and Dwayne were to have recorded the soundtrack, but since the film was=20
never made, the soundtrack was never released and likely never produced.=20
One cool aspect of the trailer is that it features Dwayne and Bill Leeb as =
the=20
burning victims. Dwayne is even referred to as Squelch (as in Squelch=20
Songs). =20
=20
-I heard Download released a track on a CD with some magazine, is this=20
true? =20
=20
Yes, they released a track called I Still Ate Her on a CD which came with=
=20
issue 47 of the European magazine Future Music, which contained and=20
interview with cEvin. =20
=20
-Why is Outafter dedicated to Brandon Lee? =20
=20
When the Crow film was being made, Skinny Puppy were asked to=20
contribute the main theme to the soundtrack. cEvin and Dwayne composed=20
a track, and Brandon supposedly loved it. Ogre, however, thought the track=
=20
was too "technoy" to be Skinny Puppy. The track was left unreleased until i=
t=20
finally appeared as Outafter on the Download album The Eyes Of Stanley=20
Pain. It is interesting that both Dwayne and Brandon Lee died leaving work=
=20
unfinished which was completed and came "Out After" their death's. =20
=20
-What is that voice saying in The Eyes Of Stanley Pain? =20
=20
This voice that apparently popped up during a Download session and after=20
warping it they decided it was saying "Eyes Of Stanley Pain" and named the=
=20
album after it. Its an open playing field, however, and there are other=20
phrases spoken by the voice, so take the proverbial ball and run with it. =
=20
=20
-This Papa Papa Mula CWM track sounds familiar...so does the name... =20
=20
The Papa Papa Mula CWM track on Microscopic is one of a few similarly=20
named tracks on various Mark Spybey projects. The "Papa Papa" name=20
refers to tracks in which he uses a particular rhythm pattern. Papa Papa Ba=
ta=20
Kolm appears on Dead Voices On Air's Hafted Maul and Papa Papa Repe=20
Wax appears on DVOA's Shap. =20
=3DaDuck=3D =20
=20
-What is aDuck? =20
=20
aDuck was Dwayne's solo project. aDuck released a now out of print 12"=20
called Power (with a B-side by Philth) which is reprinted on Paradigm Shift=
=20
(see above). Another aDuck track, Burnout, appears on this compilation as=
=20
well. An aDuck track called Phenethylamine Backwash was also included on=20
a compilation produced by FLA's Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber. cEvin plans on =
=20
releasing some more of Dwayne's material in the future as a full aDuck =20
album. =20
=20
=3DDoubting Thomas=3D =20
=20
-What is Doubting Thomas? =20
=20
Doubting Thomas is a side project of cEvin and Dwayne. The music was =20
best described as "soundtracks for movies that never existed". There was =
=20
an album (The Infidel) and companion single (Father Don't Cry) released =
=20
on WaxTrax!. The single is now out of print, but is tentatively scheduled =
=20
for re-release with new material on Metropolis this summer. There is =20
supposedly a new release, including unreleased old and more recent=20
material, on the way (this release may have been replaced with the Father =
=20
Don't Cry re-release...more to come). Two Doubting Thomas tracks appear =
=20
on the compilation Paradigm Shift. Also of note is that there is some other=
=20
band called Doubting Thomas with absolutely no relation to this project. =
=20
=20
=3DThe Tear Garden/The Legendary Pink Dots=3D =20
=20
-What is Skinny Puppy's relation to The Tear Garden? What about the =20
Legendary Pink Dots? =20
=20
The Tear Garden is a Side Project of Skinny Puppy and The Legendary Pink =
=20
Dots. It began when cEvin, a huge fan of the Dots, sent them a photo=20
collage of all the LPD releases he was able to find. They began=20
corresponding, even before SP was born, and eventually, Edward Ka-Spel=20
(singer of LPD) toured with Skinny Puppy, opening for the band with his=20
solo performance. cEvin was his sound engineer for this tour, and this =20
resulted in the first Tear Garden sessions. These sessions (which involved=
=20
just cEvin and Edward, produced by Rave) gave birth to their self-titled=20
debut EP/cassette. One of the songs was a new version of the Skinny Puppy=
=20
track Centre Bullet, this time with Edward on vocals. The band reconvened=
=20
in '87, this time with Dwayne, Rave, Lee Salford, and even Ogre joining in,=
=20
and recorded the album Tired Eyes Slowly Burning. After a long hiatus the=
=20
Tear Garden reformed, with the lineup of cEvin, Dwayne, Rave, Ryan=20
Moore, and the entire Pink Dots band, and recorded the album Last Man To=20
Fly and the EP Sheila Liked the Rodeo. Ryan, who had been working with=20
cEvin in Hilt, got along so well with the Pink Dots crew that he has been a=
=20
member of LPD ever since. Much of the Sheila Liked The Rodeo EP was=20
improvised in the studio when the band members were not even aware that=20
they were being recorded. The band once again got together in late '95 and=
=20
recorded To Be An Angel Blind, The Crippled Soul Divide. Unfortunately=20
this album was recorded after Dwayne's death. It featured cEvin, Anthony=
=20
Valcic, all the Pink Dots including new member Niels Van Hornblower, and=20
a variety of guests. Mark Spybey appears on the track Malice Through The=20
Looking Glass. Two other tracks from these sessions appear on the=20
Paradigm Shift compilation. It is rumored that cEvin and Edward are=20
working on some new material currently, and that there will be a few limite=
d=20
live shows soon. In addition to The Tear Garden, cEvin appears on the LPD=
=20
releases 9 Lives To Wonder (which features a thank you to "undernourished=
=20
small dogs") and Chemical Playschool vol. 8 and 9. cEvin *may* be playing=
=20
with LPD live at their LA, San Francisco, and San Diego shows on their=20
current tour. Ryan Moore also accompanied Download on their =9196 tour as=
=20
a guest member. He played live drums as well as some bass and synths.=20
Ryan=92s solo project, Twilight Circus, opened for Download on this tour,=
=20
with Mark Spybey sometimes joining in on Ryan=92s set.=20
=20
=3DHilt/The Flu/Lee Chubby King=3D =20
=20
-What is Hilt? The Flu? Lee Chubby King? =20
=20
Hilt is a punkish band involving cEvin, Dwayne, Al Nelson, Lee Salford, =
=20
Don Harrison, Rave, Ryan Moore, and even Ogre as a one time guest.=20
cEvin and Al "Chubby" Nelson were in a band together years ago called=20
Illegal Youth (the name was originally No Exit, but when another band=20
popped up with that name, they changed it). Al later became Puppy's live=20
film man. Hilt released two albums, two singles, and an EP. cEvin has said=
=20
there's lots more Hilt material that may one day be released. A new Hilt =
=20
release called The Worst Of... is tentatively planned. The Flu was an earli=
er=20
band which grew into Hilt, featuring at least cEvin and Al, and which only=
=20
released a cassette album in Sweden. Copies of this album are floating=20
around as a bootleg. Some other cassette material has recently popped up as=
=20
a bootleg claiming to be a Flu album called Patsy : A Collection of Absolut=
e=20
Insanity By The Fly. Its supposedly volumes 5 and 6 in an 8 volume set=20
called the In My Head Tape Series (which is otherwise unreleased). More=20
info to come on this material. Lee Chubby King was a little rap parody with=
=20
cEvin, Al, and Lee Salford. The name was a play on the band members=20
names. "Lee" Salford, Al "Chubby" Nelson, and cEvin a.k.a. "Kenny King".=20
Lee Chubby King released a 12" single of the tracks Yo Pusface and Yo=20
Pusdub. =20
=20
=3DPlateau=3D =20
=20
-What is Plateau? =20
=20
Plateau is a new project featuring Philth, cEvin, and Anthony Valcic. The =
=20
concept for this band was apparently born out of the '96 Download tour, =
=20
which included stop overs in the hash bars of lovely Amsterdam. During the=
=20
North American leg of the tour, at a planned Orlando show, cEvin was=20
busted for Marijuana possession. This incident lead to the concept of a ban=
d=20
for the legalization of pot. An album called Music For Grassbars was=20
recently released and a double A-side single for the songs Dutch Flowers=20
and White Widow is also out now on both vinyl and CD. Plateau's debut=20
track, Grasshopper, appears on the Subconscious Compilation Paradigm=20
Shift. More Plateau is expected in the future. Some Plateau material was=20
performed live by Download at the '96/'97 New Years Eve show. =20
=20
=3DcEvin Key solo=3D =20
=20
-I heard cEvin is releasing solo material. Is this true? =20
=20
Yep. cEvin is releasing an album called Music Fur Cats, consisting of =20
material that his cats enjoy. It will be released on Metropolis later this =
year. =20
=20
=3DCyberaktif /Front Line Assembly=3D =20
=20
-What is Skinny Puppy's relation to Cyberaktif and Front Line Assembly? =
=20
=20
Bill Leeb of FLA was a member of Skinny Puppy (under the name Wilhelm =20
Schroder), playing bass synth predominantly, during the Bites/Mind:TPI=20
eras and called it quits right before they went on tour for Mind:TPI.=20
Dwayne then replaced him. Bill, cEvin and Dwayne joined forces a few=20
years later and put out some records under the name Cyberaktif, including=
=20
an album (Tenebrae Vision) and two singles (Nothing Stays and Temper),=20
all released on WaxTrax! Blixa Bargel of Einstuerzende Neubauten also =20
participated in Cyberaktif. According to both Leeb and cEvin, this project=
=20
will never record another release. =20
=20
=3DA Chud Convention=3D =20
=20
-What is A Chud Convention? =20
=20
A Chud Convention was a one-off project that involved Skinny Puppy =20
(before Dwayne joined) and a;GRUMH. It basically involved the two bands =
=20
screwing around in the studio while "coming down off a weird high." A =20
12" of these sessions was released, called Sorrow, containing two tracks, =
=20
Patient Sorrow and Silent Sorrow. Puppy, and possibly a;GRUMH as well, =
=20
didn't want to release this due to its oddball nature and questionable soun=
d =20
quality, so the release was probably done by a third party. =20
=20
=3DHell O' Deth Day=3D =20
=20
-What is Hell O' Deth Day? =20
=20
Hell O' Deth Day was another one off project that Ogre and cEvin created=20
in order to open for Chris and Cosey during the early days of Skinny Puppy.=
=20
Some of the material for this project was released on the Remission and=20
Bites albums, including tracks like Film, Love, Falling, Social Deception,=
=20
and Centre Bullet. cEvin says that there is a bunch of material from these=
=20
sessions which remains unreleased. Because this style was popular in=20
Europe at the time, many of these tracks were used on the European=20
versions of Bites, resulting in many different versions of the album with=
=20
many different tracks. All the tracks from all the different versions of Bi=
tes,=20
with the one exception of Cage, are compiled on the '93 CD release of=20
Bites. =20
=20
=3DThe Lung Goblins=3D =20
=20
-What is The Lung Goblins? =20
=20
The Lung Goblins is an as-of-yet unreleased project featuring cEvin,=20
Dwayne, and Philth. It was a jazzy style project which actually had Philth =
on=20
guitar and vocals. It may or may not ever see the light of day... =20
=20
=3DcEvin's Pre-Puppy Work=3D =20
=20
-What is Skinny Puppy's relation to Images In Vogue? =20
=20
Images In Vogue was a fairly big Canadian synth-pop band in the early '80s.=
=20
cEvin was drummer for the band, and some of their released material=20
includes him (under his real name Kevin Crompton). The band also included=
=20
Glen Nelson (brother of Al Nelson, see question on Hilt), Joe Vizvary, Gary=
=20
Smith (who later became a film producer who worked with Jim Vanbebber,=20
see questions on Charlie's Family and Chunkblower), Don Gordan (who=20
later left and formed the band Numb), and Dale Martindale. As the band =
=20
progressed, cEvin became increasingly disgusted with being in a pop band.=
=20
This lead to his formation of a project which was the complete anti-thesis =
of=20
pop. This project eventually became Skinny Puppy. On the day of the=20
release of Bites, cEvin quit Images In Vogue and Puppy became his full time=
=20

-What was The Fuck Brothers? =20
=20
Supposedly, the Fuck Brothers was cEvin's first band. When he was 13, his =
=20
parents forced to have get a haircut, which ended up horrendous. cEvin =
=20
rebelled by forming the Fuck Brothers with his friend, Dick Hardy, and then=
=20
recorded an "album" the same day on an eight-track tape. They recorded a =
=20
second album "Live at Istanbul" (inserting crowd noise between songs) =20
over a Tangerine Dream eight-track. Someone stole the tape, apparently =
=20
thinking they were getting Tangerine Dream. I, personally, refuse to believ=
e =20
that anyone named Dick Hardy really exists and thus question the whole =
=20
story. Truthfully, if your name was Richard Hardy would you call yourself =
=20
Dick? Dick Hardy? Ah, but I digress... =20

=20
-What is Skinny Puppy's relation to Mark Spybey and Dead Voices On Air? =
=20
=20
Mark Spybey's solo project, Dead Voices On Air, featured cEvin as a guest =
=20
from time to time. Mark Spybey was also a member of Download, but left=20
the band recently and is not involved with their new album. cEvin=20
participated insome of DVOA's live shows during which they played some=20
Download material. Download also played some DVOA material on their=20
'96 tour. =20
=20
=3DMinistry/Revolting Cocks/PTP=3D =20
=20
-What is Skinny Puppy's relation to Ministry, Revolting Cocks, and PTP? =
=20
=20
Al Jourgensen of Ministry co-produced and performed on the Rabies album, =
=20
and Ogre did backing vocals and some writing on the Ministry album The =
=20
Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste. He also toured with Ministry a number=20
of times and appears in the live video and album In Case You Didn't Feel=20
Like Showing Up (he=92s the one in the =93Fuck Art Let=92s Kill=94 t-shirt =
in some=20
shots). When Ogre was on tour with them, Ministry often performed the=20
Skinny Puppy track Smothered Hope. One version of this appears as the B-
side to Ministry's Burning Inside 12". According to cEvin, Jourgensen=20
wanted Ogre to be a permanent vocalist for his Revolting Cocks project at=
=20
one point. Due to Ogre and Al's "falling out" Ogre sang only on a few =20
tracks. The first incarnation of Ogre's project W.E.L.T. involved Al and=20
Ogre working together as a duo. This lineup fell apart, but one track from=
=20
this era, called Noreen, is floating around in bootleg form. This track was=
=20
later used by Al as the basis for the Ministry song The Fall. Interestingl=
y=20
enough Ogre and Al traded tattoos, Ogre getting a RevCo symbol and Al a=20
W.E.L.T. symbol. Al's project called PTP is also rumored to have recorded=
=20
a track with Ogre on vocals. It was called Show Me Your Spine and is used=
=20
in the movie Robocop but was never released (on a soundtrack or=20
otherwise). The only PTP music that was released, the single Rubber Glove=
=20
Seduction, does not feature Ogre. Ogre doesn't remember taking any part in=
=20
this project at all, but admits that the period was a drug haze so, who=20
knows? =20
=20
=3DMutual Mortuary=3D =20
=20
-What is Mutual Mortuary? =20
=20
Mutual Mortuary was a collaboration between Ogre and Bill Leeb, back=20
when he was still a member of Puppy. Its not known exactly who did what,=20
Leeb claiming he did it all except the vocals, provided by Ogre, and Ogre=
=20
claiming that he did just about everything for Leeb. The project was=20
unfinished, with only two tracks having vocals, when Leeb sent it off to a=
=20
European record label. The project was rejected, but the label used the two=
=20
songs with vocals on their compilation Insane Music For Insane People.=20
According to Ogre, Leeb kept all the money from the project, resulting in=
=20
Ogre plastering posters all over Vancouver with the slogan W.E.L.T. :=20
Wilhelm Eats Lunch Today. The two published tracks are findable as=20
bootlegs. =20
=20
=3DW.E.L.T.=3D =20
=20
-What is W.E.L.T.? =20
=20
W.E.L.T is a long running name Ogre has used for a variety of projects,=20
none of which have ever been released. The name originated as Ogre's=20
reaction to Mutual Mortuary (see above). Later Ogre and Al Jourgensen=20
adopted it as their project together, this time referring to it as When=20
Everyone Learns the Truth. When Ogre and Al had a falling out, this project=
=20
disintegrated. One track from these sessions called Noreen appeared as a =
=20
bootleg, though. Al later revamped this track and used it as Ministry's The=
=20
Fall. Ogre later revived W.E.L.T. as a project with Raven, from Killing=20
Joke. This lineup also fell apart when Raven went and got a publishing deal=
=20
based upon what was then just a verbal agreement. Raven apparently=20
wanted Ogre to do some vocals on already finished music, which Ogre=20
decided against. Most recently, W.E.L.T. became Ogre's post-Skinny Puppy =
=20
project with Mark Walk. An album was supposedly completed but never=20
appeared, reportedly due to legal troubles. (see above question on Ogre) =
=20
=20
=20
-I heard Ogre did the soundtrack to the Descent 2 computer game, is this=20
true? =20
=20
Yes, at least partially. One source says that Ogre and Mark Walk did all of=
=20
the tracks except for track 9, which was done by Type O Negative. Other=20
sources say Ogre and Mark Walk only did 2 tracks, tracks 4 and 7=20
respectively called Glut and Ratzez. There is quite a bit of conflicting in=
fo=20
on this soundtrack. It should also be noted that this soundtrack only appea=
rs=20
on the CD version of Descent 2. The floppy disk and downloadable demo=20
versions feature a MIDI sequence soundtrack not involving Ogre. Also, a=20
new version of the game has appeared claiming on the packaging "all new =20
soundtrack" and the soundtrack to the Playstation version is supposedly=20
different. Any definitive info on any of these releases would be greatly=20
appreciated. =20
=20
-I saw some band named Welt's album called Better Days. Is this Ogre's =
=20
project? =20
=20
No. This is a completely unrelated band. =20
=20
=3DPigface=3D =20
=20
-What are Skinny Puppy's relations to Pigface? =20
=20
Pigface is a sort of supergroup with a rotating lineup involving just about=
=20
everyone and their brother. Ogre has been a consistent contributor to =20
Pigface, doing vocals and touring with them. Pigface's "main guy" is Martin=
=20
Atkins who, being a friend of Ogre, was brought in to produce The Process =
=20
after Roli Mossiman (sp?) was kicked out. cEvin and Dwayne did not get =
=20
along with Martin and eventually he was axed as well. It was through =20
Atkins that Ogre met Mark Walk, with whom he is/was working on=20
W.E.L.T. Dwayne and cEvin also supposedly contributed to Pigface at one=20
time or another, but it is not known how. =20
=20
=3DRitalin=3D =20
=20
-What is Ritalin? =20
=20
Ritalin is a new project of Ogre and Martin Atkins being recorded this=20
summer. Its supposedly very different from most of their previous work but=
=20
with similarities to the Pigface track Insemination. =20
