like a cross between Moev and Single Gun Theory...
any recommendations or comments on their other music?

She also did guest vocals on one song from Paula Abdul's last cd. Ofra
Haza had one album that came out on Sire Records in the US in the late
80s. She is/was very popular in Europe back in the late 80s. Probably
still popular in her native land, which I can't remember where it was,
so I'll stop there.

"Israel is not normally known for its popular music, at least in the
West, but singer Ofra Haza is somone who's always broken boundaries.
Her single, 'Im Nin'Alu,' has already caused a considerable sonic
sensation overseas, with one reviewer describing Haza's vocal prowess
'as magnificent and unfathomable as the reasoning behind a suspension
bridge, governed by the same miracles of tension.'
Ofra Haza is something of a superstar in her native Israel, winning
prizes and Grammy-equivalents with natural ease. In 1985, in what began
initially as a private project - a present to her parents - she recorded
a collection of centuries-old traditional Yemenite songs, previously
surviving only as part of an established oral tradition. One of those
songs was 'Im Nin'Alu,' which Eric B. & Rakim used in their overground
smash hit 'Paid in Full.'"

She is the Mariah Carey of the Jihad! :-)
If you go to any gothic clubs you have probably heard her voice on back up
on the remix / latest version of Sisters Of Mercy track "Temple Of Love".
She is one of few artists who managed to cross the barriers between Hebrew
and Arabic listeners in the Middle East.
She has tons of fan websites, but they are mostly in Arabic or Hebrew and
of those I cannot (menachem?) Begin to fathom!
I used to see her CDs and tapes all over Saudi Arabia.

Add to which, she is highly fightening. I grew up hearing her screeching on the
radio. I do not wish this on anyone.

hermusic. Not that I'm criticizing your vocabulary, just making it clear to

Ofra Haza got really famous in Europe for her single "Im Nin Alu".
It's a classic!!! top 10 in most european countries around 84-86. I
recall that my younger brother bought her vinyl 7" at that time. She
recently put out some cheezy pop-arabic-jewish songs. Mostly remixes
from traditional songs... I think she's from Israel. She has hundreds
of records out, mostly non-domestic stuff.

Incidentally, she just provided the voice for one of the supporting
characters (unfortunately, I can't remember which one) in the animated
film 'Prince of Egypt' - I figured it was her when I heard her sing, then
checked the credits to be sure.
