Shri Deepak Sabnis from USA will be the chief guest of honour for
today's very special session quoted above.

A listening session on a topic of above & cine music based mostly of
the 40s-n-50s-decades is something very unique...indeed very unique.
Ask me why?

Because, SORROW / GRIEF / PATHOS / nirasha, etc are an INTEGRAL part of
every human being. There can be NO HAPPINESS...never ever; until you
have experienced the former.

This aspect of LIFE has ever-n-always been prompting me for quite some
months and I thought it FIT to project this wonderful part of life
through cine music as entitled above. The very (thought of now)
presence of Deepak Sabnis THRILZ me off-n-on and hope to have some
'real info exchanges' this afternoon on a one2one basis. Other
connoisseurs would also be present.

The reason I am telling this forum is to educate them, MAKE THEM
LISTEN on record. If the LISTENER is a casual one, whatever I feed him
will 'bounce off' & if he/she is a passionate one-n-info seeking
( unlike the many on this forum harping on selective songs / voices /
MDs / song writers / films) melodic enlightenment..then lo !

Is this "Tere Liye O Bewafa" from Chitragupt's "Commander" or is it a
different song?

Since no one knows the answer to my question about the juvenile
actress Madhubala's song as quoted above:

Well: the song : Bhagawan bhagwan... by Baby Mumtaz is from the film;:
"Pujari" ('45) of Ardeshir Irani Prodns.

It was the FIRST FILM in which MD: Hansraj Bahl made his debut. I have
all the records from this film.

Indeed yes. Mahesh.

HMV N26031 : Tumko mubarak...Chorus (though rendered by Parul Ghosh /
chorus on record) from BASANT('42).

A juvenile Madhubala aka Baby Mumtaz did act in this film (I have not
seen the film) & PRESUMING her presence in the picturisation...still
does not prove that her juvenile voice is presesent or discernible
either in the sound track or on the HMV record.

On RECORD one canidentify a male voice leading the chorus and carried
on with a clear Parul Ghosh voice /chorus. Nowhere in the entire
record is Baby Mumtaz's childish voice discernible.

Under the circumstances, I FEEL that PUJARI ('45) under Hansraj Behl
is the first ever song rendered by the actress, a juvenile
Madhubala( Baby Mumtaz).

Jayji,

She sang two songs in her first movie Basant (1942) independently
and perhaps those were not issued on any record or cassette.

(i) humko hain pyaari hamaari galiyaan and
(ii) mere chhote se man main chhoti se duniya re

Here are the links to two videos from Basant (1942). It is clearly a
'juvenile' voice. The record version, however, were in Parul Ghosh's
voice.

Yes, you are CORRECT indeed !

I listened to the 2 numbers of BASANT ('42) on YOU TUBE.

Both the songs are in Baby Mumtaz'a voice. Thats right.

Actually, the Anil Biswas Commemorative has 4 CDs (2 CDs in each jewel
case). This set was from a previous RMIM meet in Denver and I took it for
Jay, thanks to Vish, who made it available at my request.

Jay played a cassette tape that he had recorded previously from his 78's. I
had not heard 26 out of the 28 songs. The audience included some 5-6 of the
regulars (from Dombivali, Kalyan, Dadar). It was nice meeting all these
folks. Jay was very courteous host and tolerated my difference of opinion
from time to time. He was curious relative to what happens in RMIM meets. I
described it as best I could. I should have pointed him to the reports that
are posted to RMIM (which do a much better job of describing what happens).
Jay was very keen to know if there are ever any "listening sessions" of the
kind he hosts. He was disappointed to hear that there are none (like the
one's he hosts) during the RMIM meets. Basically, Jay's listening session is
like a radio program, except it is live. He introduces a song with his
commentary and then plays it. Of course, he treats his guests to tea and
snacks.

Jay firmly believes that every one must go thru some pain in order to enjoy
the music (sort of like, people don't value what they get easily). As a
rule, his concept of sharing music is limited to listening session. He has
made a few exceptions when he made some rare songs available through Prof
Saheb's web site.

We had some spirited discussion (with some hot exchanges) on different
topics including approaches to enjoyment of music. But all in all, it was
very educational visit for me personally. The session ended with lightening
and thunder and rain showers (literally).

Thanks for the session Jay...

Deepak
