raag malgunji - is it all that rare

I was watching a program on times now on classical masterpieces in hindi films. when ghar aajaa ghir aaye was featured, annu kapoor commented that the song was in the rare raag maalgunji and he thought that apart from rd burman no one had attempted to compose in that raag.

on chandrakantha.com i find the following songs listed

jeevan se bhari
nain so nain naahi
naa jiya laage naa and many others.

by searching other videos on youtube jeevan se bhari and nain so nain naahi sound closer to the classical version.

what is the correct answer?

What, precisely, is the question? As you have yourself noted, Anu
Kapoor is simply wrong if he says nobody other than RDB composed in
Malgunji. Apart from the ones found by you there is a lovely tune in
Picnic (S.Mohinder)

thanks for the answer :)

the question was if anu kapoor was right in his assertion. though to be fair to him he added the word probably before saying that rdb was the only one to use it (which gave me the impression that it was a very rare raag in hfm)

a follow up question, which of the songs listed there on chandrakantha (including the picnic song) is closest to the actual raag.

To my ears, "nain so nain" and "balamva bolo na" come the closest.

Gorgeous melody, the Picnic song! Reminded me that in recent times
M.M. Kreem composed a Malgunji-based tune for "Zakhm" sung by Alka
Yagnik, "Raat Saari Beqaraari Men Guzaari".

'raat saari beqaraari' - i loved that song. though it was wasted on pooja bhatt. keeravaani composing in maalgunjii. interesting :)

mm kreem - the guy who composed raat saari - is also called keeravaani. i dont know if it is because he likes that raag very much. hence i was trying to make a clever joke (keeravaani/maalgunji) :( i guess it did not work.

It worked very well! I was counter-joking, you see, Pancham is varjit
in the raagas I mentioned.

Balaji's reference is probably to "aap jaisa koi" which uses the same
notes as Malkauns. Had the song been composed by Kalyanji-Anandji, the
overall music directors of Qurbani, it would have been a perfect
parallel (Kalyan -- Malkauns).
