After a very long time somebody has written about a cultural subject
like music.
Dhanyawad !
Here is a very nice link which gives a lot of information about
'GHARANAS'.
Pl. see & enjoy.

-pramod.
Wonder how the name Ustad Bhai Lal Mohammad 1887-1962 will suit our
hindu dis-harmony.
Never knew Pandit D.V Paluskar 1921-1955 died 34.
Must say that website does not give necessary importance to hindu
vocalists.
Less known and relatively immature Muslim vocalists are given
importance.
More biased picture is that of list of Instrumentalists. Ravi Shankar
not there but a fellow in his twenties is included

Time to move the discussion to soc.religion...?
DG
It is indeed from Pakistan, and indeed does not aspire to anything
else. Its homepage clearly mentions it is a "Gateway to the classical
music traditions of Pakistan".
Under the circumstances, not including a picture of Ravi Shankar is
not terribly surprising. Inciddentally, the "fellow in his twenties"
is very much an Indian, not a Pakistani.
Abhik
Website is selling music. Wonder if it has only those put on it whose
music it has contracted to sell.
Care to elaborate on "Time to move the discussion to
soc.religion...?" ?
Have CCed this to in...@sadarang.com in hope that Raghib Razaq may wish
to say something.
Not really. Selling music is only a small part of their activities. It
is easy to verify, all you need to do is spend some time going through
the site properly.
