I have a 1000$ bet with my wife regarding the time when shooting for
Bobby movie started.
I am talking of movie which starred Dimple Kapadia, Rishi Kapoor and
was made by Raj Kapoor.
The bet is regarding Dimple's age when the shooting started. She
thinks Dimple was 13 where as I cannot digest that she was that young.
Month and year should be enough to settle the bet.

The Wiki entry does not answer the question. The question is Dimple's age when
the shooting started. That is difficult to determine unless one has info about
it from books, articles etc. One other way to determine it is from what is known
in the public space. Assuming it is accurate, what we do know is that sometime
around 1971 Mukesh approached L-P and asked them if they would compose for RK's
next film following the flop Mera Naam Joker in 1970. If LP said no, RK would go
to RDB. Jaikishan was already dead. That would mean this Mukesh-LP meeting took
place sometime after 12th Sept 1971. If RK had already short listed Dimple by
then she would be atleast 14 by 12-9-1971 going by her DOB on the Wiki page that
is if you accept the Wiki entry that she was born in 1957. I have seen other
sources saying it is 1959 which would put her around 13 when the shooting
started say in 1972 or so. The movie was released in November 1973(source: IMDB)
I have a few other quibbles with the Wiki entry. Officially Rajesh and Dimple
have never been divorced. Rajesh had listed her as his wife when he filed his
papers for the Lok Sabha elections in the 1990s. Also she was not quite 16 when
she got married. Her marriage date is March 27, 1973.

Bobby was released sometime around end of August or early Sept.73 &
not Nov.1973(as per my memory). Her birth date must be correct.
Because she was sure born before 1958. There is one more big
sensational story behind her birth & Sunil Dutt-Nargis marriage &
Mother India shooting etc. So she mustnt have been born after 1957.
Shooting must have started after May 1972. Because earlier Leena
Chandavarkar had approached RK with her father. But RK showed some
semi-nude photographs from Mera Naam Joker. And asked was she ready
for this? Needless to say she ran away. Thereafter Dimple was signed.

No, Zeenat Aman did not go to RK studios scantily clad. She went
there with just half of her face painted/done scarred. I know the
story that as soon as Raj Kapoor and Krishna Kapoor saw her, they were
impressed and Raj immediately signed her right there. Krishna then
went in, brought back a gold coin, and gave it to Zeenat as a signing
amount. She did not go there scantily clad, because Raj already knew
enough about her and that she would wear those cholis with plunging
neckline without any problem anyway.

The latter part of your story holds. The first part as narrated by
Zeenat herself in an interview did not have her scantily clad or
scarred. All she did was to have a decent chat with RK who was
reluctant. So she asked to use his bathroom and came back drenched.
That's when RK asked his wife to give her a gold coin.
At least that's ZA recollected it. Lousy movie at any rate.
The song 'Yashomati mayya' was a direct reproduction of 'Ai gori
radhika brij mein balkhati' (a Surdas composition) from the film
'Gopinath' starring Raj Kapoor, circa 1948 (?). Meena Kapoor and Nenoo
Majumdar were the singers.

I also read my version in Zeenat's interview probably in a late '70s
issue of Filmfare. She clearly talked about how she finished the
shooting of a film, then went back to her makeup room and applied/
painted a scar on her face, and finally drove straight to RK studios
to meet Raj Kapoor. I doubt if she would have indulged in such
indecent thing as going into a bathroom and get back drenched. She
may have exposed too much in the film, but she was too educated and
professional lady to get drenched like that just to get the role.
By the way, the film was not that bad. I just could not tolerate
Shashi Kapoor.
