Any other English language songs in Hindi films?
Shri Satish Haldankar : The 1930s Geet Kosh lists a few such songs and
is a good starting point for you from historical perspective. The most
famous instance from 1930s is Shanta Apte in Duniya Na Maane (or
Kunku), but it is neither the only one nor the first one.

I do not have any volumes of the Geet Kosh, hence this post.

His was not a discussion, merely a request for information. I did not
direct him to Geet Kosh, merely to an article based on it. No wonder
Jay calls RMIMers ignorant :)
But, to be fair to Mr. Gandhi's criticism, the OP (Original Poster)
did seem to be asking for comprehensive information on *all* English
language songs that had featured in Hindi films till now. You pointed
him to a source that he didn't have and then to a page that provides
only part of the information he sought.
No, I'm not saying that you should have provided all the information
he sought, but at least the criticism that the OP's query has not been
answered is not invalid.
(Sorry, I myself don't have any information to provide to the OP's
question. So, this is all so much hot air and little more. Ignore
me.)

I am sure an appropriate search on the web or/and rmim archives will
produce more info. It's not as if this question has been asked for the
very first time.
Indeed, this newsgroup has become a bore! Its also become an old
habit which is why we keep lurking for years, 14 in my case. :)
To answer Satish's question, my google search only found "dhoom again"
as an additional song that is mostly English. There also was a Rafi
song in English that I heard at an RMIM meet and also at Kalraji's
place I think. I don't think it was from a film though. My memory is
aging and google groups search has become cumbersome, but you may be
able to find it.
Hema.
Also, there are a few English songs on my website, but it is not easy
to find songs. I am trying to fix that as time allows.
There is one song from Ek Duuje Ke Liye which has a few English lines
("hum bane tum bane ek duuje ke liye, I don't know what to say ... ").
There aren't any other that I know of.
Speaking of English songs, there is an excellent one from a Kannada
film Bilee Hendthi, sung by Vani Jayaram. You'll find it on youtube
(the song is "Happiest moment..."). There is also a Vani Jayram and
Balamuralikrishna duet from a Thamizh film, which is essentially a
rehash of "High on a hill was a lonely goatherd" (from The Sound of
Music). In my opinion, while the Happiest moment song is awesome, the
latter rehash from the Thamizh film is rather awful.
was n`t there a song from movie "Lagaan", that would fall in this
category?
I think the original querist was looking for songs that are All
English or primarily in English. The song from Lagaan has a snippet
in English, just the same as the song from Ek Dooje Ke Liye. There
are many such examples in recent films, almost every film seems to
have a "party song" with English words in it.
Recent films have had background songs in English.
. Wake Up, Sid -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETJ51kMhr24
. Dostana (two songs) -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM6OxEopW78
The second song in the Dostana does use an Urdu phrase "Khabar
naheen".

Depending on how you define recent, I recall another recent song from
a film called Akele Hum Akele Tum (remake of Kramer vs Kramer), which
goes something like "why did you break my heart", filmed on Aamir
Khan. Don't recall any other details.

Warm regards,

Thanks a lot for the link. It was useful. I should have clarified that
I was looking for complete songs in English with artistes lip-syncing
on the screen and not being played in the background.
I found three more
Mera Naam Joker (1970)
1) Wish me luck as you wave good bye ... : Simi, male voice(*) &
chorus.
2) I come from Alabama with the banjo on my knees ... : chorus
* does anyone know who the male singer was?
Bombay Talkie (1971)
1) Good times and bad tImes : Usha Iyer (Uthap) & chorus
I am not sure whether this song was played in the background or was
lip-synced on the screen. Anyone who knows it one way or the other?
Hello,
I remember a song by Moh.Rafi heard many years ago, but remember only
the first lines:
The she I love is a beautiful, beautiful dream come true,
I love her, love her, love her and so will you.
The tune sounded similar to "HumE Lake haiN to kya hua dilwale haiN".
Any takers?
Ravi
Sorry i hope I didn't offend you or the other gentleman ( Mr
Naniwadekar). i should have put a smiley face on but not used to using
symbols. I have learnt an enormous amount about hindi music from you
two guys and the other contributors to this newsgroup. It has
increased my pleasure in listening to hindi music 10 fold ( from just
listening to Lata , Mohd rafi, and Mukesh I now listen to all the
singers of the "hindi" music pantheon and appreciate all of them ( pre
1980s) - thanks to you guys!!)
Back on topic I have been looking for a song that I heard once on the
radio in London as a 13 year old which I have never heard since. I
know I should look on Google and it may even be on that amazing site
giitayaan, and i don't have the geetkosh although oneday I would like
to own one. but I thought Id ask the RMIMers anyway. It opens with
the traditional christmas song- "Jingle bells" which Lata sings the
chorus of and then switches to a hindi song. Any takers ?
Thanks in advance
Mitesh

So, your thinking is that whenever somebody asks a question, we should
simply stop our regular life and answer the question completely, even
though we talked about it and answered it many times on RMIM before.
Well, good luck with that :)
Actually all newcomers are not like that. Many (e.g. Asif and
Narsingh), after discovering the group, go through the archives at
least to look for possible answers to questions of interest to them.
Mitesh, the song you're looking for is Aao Tumhe Chaand Pe Le Jaayen
from Zakhmee (1975).
