I waited a whole week, hoping someone would say something. Ruchira
has an impeccable education in music, having learned from Smt Alaka
Deo Marulkar first and then moving on to ITC-SRA where she could learn
from Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Smt. Girija Devi. Besides, she is a
pretty young woman to boot ;-)
In op. cit., she has faithfully presented two bandishes I like to
hear. Her taans are fast and clear. She takes tihais expertly.
A search yields two other clips of hers on youtube:
"Saiyan More" Indian Semi Classical Music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LULMhI3dKE,
and
Ruchira Kale Sawan Ka Dadra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47sgped4KPo
If rmic-ers will take the trouble to follow the three links I assure
them their time will not be wasted,
Those other two are out and out dadras, and even the one she linked in
her post here (Ruchira Kale Bandishi Thumri in Raag Des) is in a
lightish raga (Des) and the mood is amatory. Is that by accident or
design, Ruchira? I would love to hear a pucca propah khyal rendition
from you some day.
Another thing - please notice when you can how Ulhasji subtly changes
his style from raga to raga. He alters his presentation between, say,
yaman or marwa on the one hand and khamaj or des on the other; also
between one bandish and another and between madhya laya and drut in
any raga, doesn't he? Were such brisk taans and tihais really called
for in the clip you posted?
Right now you are like an athlete in training. Your voice is
completely under your command and you can throw a fast taan in
wherever you want. But you also need to make a note of what not to do
where.
That said, you clearly have it in you to make it to the top. Here is
wishing you the best of luck.

Ruchira,
I loved your performance. Music and presentation both are pleasant.
Few comments on the clip itself .
Can I suggest that the Video and Audio quality should do justice to
your music. Especially if you are showcasing your talent . Brilliant
music though , please upload some more ..
All the best.

(his third link being once again a dadra)
Oh, I understand now. Ruchira, stay out of khyal and concentrate on
thumri etc. by all means. I have no problem with that. (as if you
cared!)

@ DG ji....thanks for your observations and also all the kind words
you had for me :)....it just so happened that the videos i had were of
semi-classical music..i shall post some khayal videos as soon as i
have some worth posting....i do regular khayal concerts :) thumri
dadra etc happens to be an add on to the rest of my repertoire....
as for what to sing and what not to sing....as you rightly said....i
feel it would take me some time and more experience to imbibe the
spirit of guruji's music in my singing...its a mighty task....and I am
working on it..was good to get your feedback on that!
and secondly, am glad you took the effort of writing so much after
hearing me...who does that anyway? :)
@ shubhada ji.....thanks for the compliments!! live recordings are
really not in my control....and especially when they havent been done
by me or one of my people :) i'll try to ensure some quality
control ....and hopefully post some new videos soon!
Ek gaanewala. He told the audience in his concert " I only sing what
I like."
One old man in the audience : Well that is why you do not get many
concerts.
