I was reasonably surprised to see this 'very rare' recording of Khan
sahab's Jog on youtube.

But when I *heard* it I was shocked for completely different reasons!
I'm going to wait for the others to share this experience, before
writing more...

Not even funny, just weird...as a little kid I inexplicably used to
"fake-autograph" some of my baseball cards, but never expected anyone
to think they were for real. This is bizarre.

Going by the speed of the response, this person is probably an active
RMIC member (or at least an active RMIC lurker)...any Sherlocks around
here?

Here's another example of the same thing- an enthusiastic but perhaps
naive poster puts images of one Allauddin Khan to the music of
another:

For those who came in late, what was the gag all about?

So Mr. Karandebuwa3 (http://www.youtube.com/user/Karandebuwa3) puts up
this 'very rare' Jog of Khan sahab. Two and a half minute 1943 AIR
recording apparently. On listening it turns out to be perhaps the
weirdest Jog (or any form of music, for that matter) one's ears have
ever come across. Totally off-key, even the Sa is not sung correctly,
bizarre off-beat off-key taans, random meends (if we can call them
that)...the first time around I could only go through about 30 seconds
before crying bloody murder, second time around I did go through it
all but should have recorded the look on my face (horror, amusement,
consternation, perplexity, wonder) for posterity. Ah Abhik - I wish
you could have heard this piece of crap...

My guess is someone basically recorded their loo session while trying
to copy khan sahab's singing mannerism (there were vague similarities
in the voice production and pronunciation). What's shocking is that
this person then tried to palm this off as an exceedingly rare
recording of the venerable Maestro. And there it was lying on youtube,
being commented upon by obsequious passersby as a 'gem', a 'rare-
find', etc etc until this thread happened...within about an hour of my
posting here the video was summarily removed (leading me to comment
that the poster is a frequent RMIC visitor).

All I have to say is that I am completely awed at the extent some
people will go to to get some (online) attention...
