I am learning ICM. While attempting bada khayal " Kahe Karat Mose
Barjori Di Tha Langarawa, Choro Mori Kalai, Na Maro Kankarawa" in
Jhaptaal, I could not synchronise with Taal. Could any one of the
experienced please provide some advise on this ? I am using Taalmal
Electronic Tabala setting for Jhaptal i.e. # 32.
With Kind Regards

Just one addition. This Bada Khayal is in Raag KHAMAJ.

Interesting! When you learnt the bandish, didn't you also learn the
matrA vibhag? Stick to how you have learnt from your Guru, tAl won't
be a problem there. This is a traditional bandish, not an Upaj, and is
tightly composed.

On Nov 24, 12:43 pm, C Parthapratim <c.parthapra...@gmail.com> advised
him to try and sing it exactly as taught and not experiment with it.
Assuming that is what you are having a problem with, here are two
simple experiments you can try.
1. use a watch to check the speed at which the jhaptal is going. Is
it too fast or too slow for you? Try altering the speed in small
steps and see if that helps. Once you find a speed at which you have
the least trouble, stick to that speed till you master the khyal.
2. Even while the Taalmal is doing its job, side by side keep the tala
with your hand (I assums you know how to do that. If not, ask
someone.) You can try that even while you are not singing. It will
help you develop a "feel" for jhaptal. With that, you will know
sooner that you are going off the track.
Hope this helps
