According to "historical" books preserved in Jai Vilas Mahal in
Gwalior, he would lighten oil lamps by singing Raag Deepak, produce
rain by singing Raag Megh, Raag Megh Malhar, or Raag Gaud Malhar, and
bloom flowers on flowering plants by singing Raag Bahar...

and make gardens grow by singing Bageshri, cause
espresso to brew by singing Kafi, not to mention
having once broken Tansen's leg by singing Mian ki (tAng) Todi?

I agree, these are really good ones! Possibly he could also make the
king's legions 'just do it' (whatever 'it' might be) by singing Naiki
Kanada?

What fun! Then,

On Oct 19, 7:30 am, Vishwaroopa Sharma <vkr...@yahoo.in> wondered:

members of rmic, of course!

Finally,

On Oct 19, 8:33 am, Abhik Majumdar <abhik.r...@gmail.com> considered
another possibility:

But wouldn't they need Nike shoes for "it"?

Right now I am laughing at

Maheshwara Sutras (108 Chants), from "Shiv Shambho". What next?
Chant a recipe for matar-paneer a suitable number of times?

(for the uninitiated, Maheshwara Sutras are the first 14 formulae of
Panini's grammar, in which he groups phonemes into families. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maheshvara_Sutras)

No, and that's the whole point - Nike (sorry Naiki) Kanada is enough.

Who was "he" in your post? Jasraj or Baiju?

I did some reseach into this tod phod business today and pleased to
share my findings. There is conclusive evidence that both Tansen and
BB performed a jugalbandi in Akbar's darbar and indeed managed to
crush a hard rock into very fine powder. That was of course expected.
The real miracle happened when the singing stopped - the rock
reassembled itself back to the original shape. And it is all caught on
camera!!

I have also uncovered evidence about fires being lit by Deepak and
gagantod rains induced by Malhar. But my fondness for this particular
"Tansen" as a vocalist prevents me from posting them.

Now just where the hell did you get this?

Seriously, the production values would do justice to the great
Ramanand Sagar himself, to my mind.

PS: Wasn't that a Sadarang composition they were singing? But then, I
ought not be so surprised. If rocks can set about re-assembling
themselves so unobtrusively, surely young Niyamat can skip back in
time and give Tansen (no less!) a lesson in Darbari compositions.

I could identity the Tansen easily, but who is the Baiju?

All I could see is the whole stone was miraculously back in the
closing shot. I was hoping to see it come back bit by bit. And,
where is the dust? It looked like the stone was teleported away.

to Abhay <aphad...@gmail.com>'s question

Manohar <manohar.bo...@gmail.com> responded:

Tansen: Kaivalyakumar Gurav; BB: Ram Deshpande. BTW, did the latter
speak Hindi or Martathi? I could not make out.
