I ran into a french spreadsheet posted online that listed more than one volumes of the album "La Flute De Pandit" by Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia. The one I am familiar with is the one with Yaman but this spreadsheet lists: La flute de Pandit.. Vol.2 ESP 155532 Suddha Sarang\Madhuvanti\Dhun Zamir Ahmad Khan tabla Dec'75
La flute de Pandit...Vol.14 ESP 8403 Lalit\Jog\Dhun Misra Khamaj Zamir Ahmed Khan tabla 12/1/1976
La flute de Pandit... Vol.12 ESP 8408 Bhupali\Vachaspati Shafaat Ahmed Khan tabla 12/3/1983
La flute de Pandit Vol.17 ESP 8416 Madhyamad Sarang\Misra Pahadi Sabir Khan tabla 3/11/1985
La flute de Pandit ... Vol.18 ESP 8426 Yaman Zakir Hussain tabla 4/30/1986
I am familiar with the vol.17 and 18 but haven't heard of the others. I am told they were released by Sonodisc in the 80s. Does anyone have any info on them. Are there any additional albums in this series (curious due to the gaps in numbering)?

Your list, I think, is complete. The missing numbers are albums by other Indian musicians (vol. 19 is le Shenai d'Ustad Bismillah Khan for example) I should be able to get you a copy if you are interested. You can send me a mail at bosmart followed by at free dot fr. Hans Bosma Paris France

rightly speeking, the volumes you did know nothing weren't probably reissued on CD they remain valuable only on LPs, but I may be wrong. The naming of the series was : Traditions classiques de l'Orient Inde Vol x (indiant classical traditions India volume...) The first of them all was a Baul songs Lp ESP 8401 Le chant mystique des Bauls, but the series encompasses other rewarding musicians as Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar Bhimpalasi ESP 8413, Krishnamurthy Shridhar raga madhukauns ESP 8409 without missing five Nikil Banerjee which made me love him. ESP here means : disques Esperance. The numbering of the series varies from ESP 8400 series to ESP 155500 series then 165500 series. Most of them were indian music but a little bit of the series were from other Asian traditions: Chinese shadow theater music from Luochan (ESP 8417), japonese koto/ koto with shakuachi (Yusen Kazuahara and Teiji Itoh)ESP 165505/165506, korean kayagum music(Park Sang-Won ESP 165528). The entire collection was directed by Françoise CHAPUIS, general secretary of the ASSOCIATION FRANCAISE DES AMIS DE L'ORIENT. What else? It's probably a pity that all of them weren't reissued . Pierre MONS
There are indeed five LP's on the Sonodisc label: ESP 8402: Jogiya Kalingada ESP 8414: Patdip ESP 155530: Monomanjari, Manj Khamaj, Baul song ESP 165504: Pilu ESP 165540: Desh
The last two however are reissues from the Swedish Amigo label (Live in Stockholm 1975). Which means the cd's have the original Made in France recordings:
> i think some, if not all, would be spread across these three Sonodisc > CDs...
Pandit Nikhil Banerjee was a regular performer at the Musée Guimet. Every year in November if I remember corrctly. Very fine concerts. I realise now he probably had one or two ragas per season as the same ragas keep popping up on live recordings around the world. It would be interesting to document these and see which were his playlists. Hans Bosma Paris France
This link is too funny. The CD is labelled Piloo, but the track listings specify Desh. It seems slapdash copy-editing is no longer the preserve of Indian publishers alone.
The blurb from the review in Hi-Fi News & Reviews is even more interesting. "'Banerjee plays sitar with a more hopeful, (sic) Banerjee plays sitar with a more hopeful, upbeat style than some other players, especially in the slower opening sections." Copy/paste blunder aside, what's it supposed to mean? Vilayat Khan downbeat in comparison? Ravi Shankar despondent?

Far be it from me to defend the British, but in this case a look at the main page http://www.audiorec.co.uk/ shows the co.uk up as a through-and-through desi co. By and for desis (possibly uk based desis). The slapdash starts with their domain name - they seem to sell DVDs, books and magazines besides audiorecs.
1. Sono Disc ESPCD8402 Le Sitar Du Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Traditions Classiques De L'orient Vol.10, Raga Jogiya-Kalingada, Track 1 Alap 19.12 minutes and Track 2 Gat 22.30. In fact the CD contains Alap 22.31 as Track 2 and Gat 23.21 as Track 1!
2. Sono Disc ESPCD8414 Title as above Vol.16, Raga Patdeep, Track 1,19.35 minutes and Track 2, 23.46. In fact the CD contains Track 1, 24.22 minutes and Track 2, 23.46 minutes!
In addition in both CDs Anindo's name is printed 'Tabla Amindo Charterjee'. Tanpura is by Ratan Mukherjee.
I also have NB's Audiorec CDs mentioned in the postings above (ARCD2005 Raga Piloo, 54.55 minutes and ARCD2007 Raga Desh, 53.12) but the booklets do not mention that these CDs were previously released by Sono or any other company, which they normally do.
I had ordered from the local music store all the volumes with ICM released by Sono Disc but they were not available any more. If they are available, I would be interested in buying them.
